    I ordered a full custom from my favorite maker almost 7 months ago, and he's finally making it this week. I chose every single component, the lengths of the handle and blade, the shape of the handle and blade, the grind of the blade, (A very tricky one), and type of steel and hardness of the steel. Every single little detail. It will be like no other knife out there. One of a kind, and all mine.
    Yeah, it's worth it!

    • @SurvivoTek
      @SurvivoTek  3 года назад

      That does sound like a knife that's totally worth it. Getting the opportunity to not only design the knife but choose how it is made and out of what materials is a super exciting thing. You'll have to share some photos or a video of the finished product once it arrives!

  • @tomkeller6982
    @tomkeller6982 2 года назад +1

    Boy, ya know, it's the price you pay for producing an incredible knife. That's all. These guys do it right. They put out an absolutely top of the line product. So the waiting time proves the fact that this knife maker is above and beyond. Good for him. I salute him for achieving excellence. I hope one day I'll be able to afford one.

  • @robbabcock_
    @robbabcock_ 3 года назад +3

    I guess it's down to the individual buying the knife. I can't imagine waiting so long for a pedestrian blade in O1 that looks almost identical to all their other knives. For the most part I don't "collect" knives anymore; that is to say, my collection is just knives that I bought with the intention of using. But I understand that impulse as I was more of a collector when I was young. Now knives are 65% use, 20% art and 15% sentimentality/story.

    • @SurvivoTek
      @SurvivoTek  3 года назад

      That is a great point. If a knife is just a tool to be used for a specific task, there really is no need to wait long for one. If it's a crafted piece of art specifically for a growing collection, then waiting seems natural. I am starting to get past the knife "collecting" phase of life, but every once and a while, there's a blade that is just too pretty to use. Haha!

    Longest I've waited was 5 months for a Jelio Puukko and well worth it. Usually though, I say 'take your time' to a maker and tell them that I wont be using it for a few months anyway. Really, I dont want them to rush it, always worked out well. On another note, when you are looking to free up some 'new knife' funds I am still trying to get hold of a nice AA or a PSK1/BHK trade knife. Also, welcome back!

    Why not make your own knife if it’s truly a design you want. It really doesn’t take that many tools to do if you were just making one for yourself. In regards to the waiting, over the course of years what happens if the maker shuts down, looses interest, passes away etc. I’m sure you would get refunded if you paid in advance, but that does seem like a factor that most people don’t talk about.

      Keep an eye out for Friday's video. Got a fun announcement along the lines of a true custom knife...

      I know what you mean, Joe. It can be a major turn off if a company has poor customer service. In the case of Adventure Sworn, their customer service is pretty embarrassing. And you're right, it doesn't matter how good a product is, to run a business, there needs to be trust between customer and maker (especially small businesses). Knowing Adventure Sworn, if you did throw it into the lake, it would still take like a couple weeks to actually hit the water.... ;)
