@3:53 Why do people always try to drive through very deep water? It's so stupid.

This doesn't look like my hometown, Punta Gorda, to me. I don't recall a 68th Avenue anywhere! Properly label the shows, I'm trying to find some details on Punta Gorda, and I'm not finding anything on the aftermath anywhere.

What I don't understand is why people that own boats don't move them out of the way before the hurricane got there. I hate that people lost their lives and their homes but when you live a foot off the ocean what do you expect really. All the damage that needs cleaned up now. How are they going to get all the damaged boats out of there?? I really think all that land should be a national park, nothing should be built on the ocean front yard.

Since a lot of these people don’t have proper insurance they will use FEMA money to rebuild there multi-million dollar properties. Which is your tax dollars. High risk flood insurance is expensive so a lot of people go without knowing they can use FEMA.

I don't think this is an appropriate time to be asking trivial things. People have lost everything and many people are missing or dead

With what time? You know maybe 3 days before that you MIGHT be in a path where it's needed.
So between working/kids/getting yourself and home ready for the storm, you want them to sail their boat to an unknown location, hopefully find a boat yard or dock far enough that has the space for your boat (and tons others if EVERYONE does this...along with the boats there normally).
THEN you either need to rent a car back, or have someone meet you there via boat or car to give you a ride all the way back. And then you have to do it all over again.
That's IF the hurricane doesn't change course in the course of those few days (as Ian did). IF you have the time and money to do this.
People say these things but don't think of the logistics involved.

They had a 3-5 day window to remove them off the water🥹, or maybe they just wanted the insurance money?? Or they are snowbirds and we’re not there to remove them??.

So many are just beginning to have to suffer Loss.... so many take advantage of people in need.
Insurance Companies are very Often culprits in doing so....No telling how much Illegal Money, Jewelry, other Valuables, which are out there, Free, Up for Grabs to whoever finds them....

Regarding uneducated armchair opinons.....many of us the boat is our home that we will go to all means possible to protect not look for insurance pay outs nor are we wealthy. It's the life we chose, I don't expect you to understand.
Most of us will make all efforts to relocate to a safe place but very limited to 50 miles a day travel with a very uncertain storm track and options of where to go.
RVs have the same issues but at least they can cover 500 miles a day.
We have to depend on the weather track and that we have chosen a fortified marina that in theory with stand. It is unfortunate the pilings for the floating docks were designed for the highest storm tides known. New marinas will have taller piles in the future. I would other existing floating docks will extend the height for future now that we know.
I hope this helps the armchair QBs understand before offering opinions.
    Thank you.
