I heard even younger, someone commented saying she was less than 10. It's a little tone deaf to make a skit about a person who owned people and then raped them in the light of " this is just some funky white dude who likes black chicks " It trivializes what a monster he was and it would have been better if they made jokes at his expense instead of chuckling at the concept that a little girl who was beaten and starved and raped by a much older white man. They began their "relationship" in France, where slavery was illegal. If a slave were to announce their freedom, the master had to accept. Her older brother was with her in France as well. She willingly went back to the states with TJ knowing she would be going back to a life of slavery. She only went back on the promise that her children would be freed at the age of 21.
Willingly? A teenage girl who has been enslaved all her life, whose mother and grandmother conceived to,their masters? TJs father-in-law and grandfather-in-law. Who was close to her mother and wanted to return to her? A 60 year old man, who in her own country owns her? Is there no limit to the lies Americans will tell themselves about their history? 🤦♀️
Declare her freedom and then what? You racists never answer that question. She went back because she had to. She and her brother had literally nothing in France. Nothing. They’d be “free” and homeless. Probably doomed to a life of prostitution or worse. Also, she was a 14 year old child who looked like a younger version of Thomas Jefferson’s dead wife. He wasn’t letting her go, and he had the money and resources to make sure he got what he wanted, period. She was brought to France to be raped.

Actually she was 14 which was a totally normal age to get married at for the overwhelming majority of human history. The age of consent in colonial America was also 12, so.

Do people realize that Sally Hemmings is the sister to Thomas Jefferson’s wife? She’s his sister-in-law as well and that’s why her children with Jefferson are so closely related. They were more than 1/2 siblings but 3/5 because the maternal line was from the same father.

2:31 Jefferson says it’s because he used to live in Paris he forgets about slavery. He knew Sally before though. Sally Hemings travelled with the Jeffersons when his only child surviving to adulthood, Maria, came with him to Paris. Sally was her older mistress / companion. Sally was basically Maria’s chauffeur in Paris. Maria and Sally’s relationship was more of having to take your sibling with you and watch them. Also, Maria hated Sally. Maria and Sally were actually related however. I can’t remember how, but they were blood. A great book to learn more is a book called “Jefferson’s Sons”. I don’t remember the author. Although it is a ya fiction book, it tells the true story about the lives of Sally and her & possibly Thomas’s (illegitimate) children. The book only takes artistic liberties when it comes to small day to day details that are not able to be known. I’m 17 and have read the book 3+ times. I love it. The main character is Sally’s 2nd oldest (surviving) child, a boy named Beverly and how he is treated, not only inhumanly of course, as a slave, but also was able to get out of hard manual labor and was able to get away with a lot more as it was never said or acknowledged, but everyone knew the Heming’s kids were Jefferson’s. I realize this is a long and fact-filled post for an SNL skit, but I am fascinated by history and while “Jefferson’s Sons” may be a ya book, it is influential to any age group. That’s all. Sorry for the long winded post.
They’re related bc Sally Hemings was the half sister of Thomas Jefferson’s wife. And that man definitely sired her children. There’s DNA proof. That book sounds interesting
Regina, I'm just now reading your post of four years ago when you were seventeen, and as you probably know by now, Sally was the half sister of Jefferson's wife, Martha; the two having had the same father. Also, Maria, aka "Polly," who lived to be in her twenties, was not Jefferson's only surviving child. His eldest daughter, the sturdy, Martha, aka "Patsy," had eleven or twelve children, and lived somewhere into her sixties. She is the one who was disapproving of her aunt, Sally's relationship with her father, but had no control over it; he would do what he wanted to. One of the books I've read is, "Thomas Jefferson, an Intimate History," by Faun Brodie: an excellent read! ~Margie Murphy Crom

True that, back in those days, it was widely acceptable for old white men to rape a little black girls, or any little girl for that matter. Today he would be fucked up the ass with crunchy peanut butter by big Bubba in a Supermax prison go figure.
She was 14 or 15 to his 44 when he started having sex with her, and her opinions (including whether or not she wanted to have sex with him) didn't matter because, oh wait, he owned her. What's it called again when you have sex with someone who can't consent?
You realize that even by 1700s standards, it was sketchy? Abigail Adams referred to her as a child who needed looking after, and no, it would not have been normal for an adult man to have sex with a child. Also, oh yeah, he owned her and her entire family: sure, she could have left him, and have been stranded in a foreign country away from her family without knowing what was happening to them.

Dee B exactly, the writers of this sketch found the violation, rape and torture of black women during slavery as grounds for humor compared to the fetishism of black women today - it's a dated unfunny skit
Not very funny when you really think about it - but then rape never is.
It's funny when Ghengis Khan does it.

You do know I hope that there exists no proof that Thomas Jefferson fathered children with a 13 year old Sally Hemmings? The DNA evidence only proves that A Jefferson was responsible for at least one of her children, and there were EIGHT Jeffersons who could have done that.
😂😂😂😂

There's so much awkward in this sketch! lol
You could say that.

There's so much racist in this sketch... Thomas Jefferson was a racist pedophile.

The DNA evidence is inconclusive as to which Jefferson was the father of Sally Hemmings' children. There is no proof Thomas Jefferson was the father.
@@edbenti5007 Well tell that to the Thomas Jefferson Foundation. They accept the evidence and so do the historians who are privy to it.
Thomas Jefferson, the original "R. Kelly." As were all of the "Founding Fathers," for that matter. Sally Hemmings was 15 or 16 when she met Thomas Jefferson.
Where's his statue? GET A ROPE!

Thomas Jefferson: What time you get off work?
Sally: Ummm...Never.😂
The best part is when Thomas Jefferson asks Sally Hemings to call him T. J..
I'm not sure this was really funny. Like she said, she didn't really have options.
Kathryn Dorsey What history are you reading?
This. When a woman is a peice of property, she cannot say no. Slave rape is not funny.
1 2 mutual slave mutual rape is though
She wasn't even a woman. She was 14 - 16 years old when he began raping her.
There is a way to joke about jefferson being a piece of shit, this sketch did not do that.
“He likes his women the way he likes his coffee, hot, black, and first thing in the morning” I love these kinds of Jokes

Angelica: *Bursts in*
Angelica: WHAT TF DID YOU SAY
TJ and Angelica were actually good friends in real life
But Angelica loves her sister more te than anything in this life. She’ll choose Eliza’s happiness over hers every time.
Its funny because in real like De Niro has quite the liking for black woman.

Jefferson: Have you ever thought about being a singer?
Hemmings: That's not an option for me.
Looking at a lot of the discussion here on Sally's age when Thomas started "courting" her. Yes, she was indeed a child. Keep that in mind, folks, when you start bashing the founder of Islam for being a child molester that one of America's "Founding Fathers" was one too.
Actually she was 14 which was a totally normal age to get married at for the overwhelming majority of human history. The age of consent in colonial America was also 12, so.
@@kasunex1772 bro she was a slave this was not a consenting relationship.
@@arrynwilliams2842 you don't know that. Actual historians will point this out. Go read up on what they actually have to say on the subject. Uh, Thomas and Sally are real people who had children together. But, I guess that part isn't important.
I take it back. The costumes seem authentic.
Gibran Lewis - Yeap, kinda like Ryan Reed is trying to will it not to be.
In reality she was 13 and accompanying his young daughter (HER niece) to France.

Hemmings was Jefferson's wife half-sister. She reminded Jefferson of his late wife.
Rick Jones and he raped her for the rest of her life. How rooms crib
And what is your authority for that statement ?
She was 14 or 15 to his 44 when he started having sex with her, and her opinions (including whether or not she wanted to have sex with him) didn't matter because, oh wait, he owned her. What's it called again when you have sex with someone who can't consent?
You realize that even by 1700s standards, it was sketchy? Abigail Adams referred to her as a child who needed looking after, and no, it would not have been normal for an adult man to have sex with a child. Also, oh yeah, he owned her and her entire family: sure, she could have left him, and have been stranded in a foreign country away from her family without knowing what was happening to them.
la mulata linda Martinez : correct!!!
She was 14 and didn't truly have a choice in the matter.
