There will never be another player like him, and he's far higher on the list of "Best Ever" than almost anyone ranks him (and I don't mean among Power Forwards).
I would put him only behind Jordan because Jordan has 6 rings with two threepeats under his belt. Tim Duncan has come the closest to matching Jordans 6 titles But Tim Duncan has the most important 🐐 acolytes only the overall 🐐 should have. (1) He made the playoffs/ never missed the playoffs two decades straight.👉 (From his rookie season until his retirement.) (2) He has 50+ winning season his entire career. (Except the 1 short season where he was on pace to hit 50+ if not for that shorten season.) (3) Has a winning percentage against every NBA team in the league. (4) Has the highest winning percentage of all major sports. (NHL, NBA, NFL, MLB, etc..) (5) Won the league MVP back to back and a championship title along with the finals MVP in the same year while being the only All-Star on the 2003 team. Notable mention's: Won the rookie of the year became a All Star and made first team All NBA on offense and defense.👉 (The last player to do that was Larry Bird 50+ yrs ago. And nobody has done it since Tim Duncan. We are now in 2022 and still Timmy is the last player since Bird to achieve this awesome acolyte.) Also: Tim Duncan won a title his second year following his rookie of the year season. He did all this and more with the same team. 💯✌️

As a spurs fan born in ‘96. I literally grew up with greatness and was spoiled with a posteseason berth every year. Now that I’m older I just appreciate it even more because it’s tough to watch my spurs these days😭 THANK YOU TIMMY🖤 (5 BIG RINGS)
Echoing similar sentiments and memories. Thankfully, I read a 2007 article that served as a reminder (or admonishment). Timmy was inevitably declining that time and basically telling to enjoy Timmy's presence until it lasts. Turns out there's nine (9) years more. And few weeks after reading it, they clinched the franchise's fourth Title.
Every year that Tim was here, we had a legitimate shot at winning it all. Every freaking year, for 2 decades, when the season started, you could honestly say, the Spurs have a good shot of winning it all. Not just a shot, but a good shot. In the 2000s, it was the Lakers or the Spurs. The East was awful, so the finals really happened when LA and SA met, wheather it was, WCF or earlier rounds.
Born in mass but I have been a massive Spurs fan all due to this man Tim Duncan. I still love the Spurs just because of all the great moments. He inspired me to play basketball which has helped me tremendously thru life. I love this surfer dude
See that's the thing because I remember watching him play a lot, I mean a lot, especially postseason and boring would pop into my head but I knew it wasn't boring and it's just that dude was so freaking fundamentally sound and not boring especially when you look at the numbers guy put up, he's one of those guys that just got it done. Kind of like that that drop step that Olajuwon would use on everybody, everybody and it would go kind of unnoticed but then at the end of the game he's got 20 points just off of that little drop step because nobody could do anything with it unless you kept him outside which wasn't happening. I put Duncan above a lot of players, including LeBron, if I sat down and wrote it out he probably makes the top 10 in my world.
Russell is a great team player like Tim, but it's a disservice to Tim to compare him to Bill Russell, who was more like Ben Wallace. Wilt is a much more apt comparison, but Wilt was a better player than Tim. That said, Wilt was a better player than all. The greatest athlete to ever live.
Russell won 11 rings. In any era that means something, and any comparison to such a player is never a disservice, even for Tim. Russell may be the best defensive big man ever. And obviously got boards. Tim got it done more on the offensive end than Bill. That said, they both went about business with determination and consistency and got the better from a career standpoint of the dominant big men of their day (wilt and shaq).
The best player of the post-Jordan era, period. Calling his shot before 2014 NBA Finals (we've got 4 more to win, we'll do it this time) and backing it up in spades, never gets mentionned enough.
That's probably the most provocative and borderline arrogant statement he uttered publicly. And he gets the job done by giving his vital part for a team-first, collective pursuit. There's even a clip in G1 LeBron "teasing" Tim about it. Four (4) games later, LeBron suddenly missed Cleveland.
Love it! The Best Power Forward of the NBA History!! No nonsense, no limelight, no fanfare, no showboat … just flat out balling! Tim exemplified leadership by actions! ❤️❤️❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Duncan won 4 titles without a teammate making an All-NBA team. Magic did it twice, but played when there were only 2 All-NBA teams. No one else has done is more than once. Tim is top 5 all time without question.

Timmy was the personification of basketball fundamentals. I copied his "off the glass" shot because it was so smooth. My friends always make fun of me because I always use the backboard because of Tim.
I shot thousand of bank shots off the glass in high school thanks to my coach then Tim comes to wake forest and saw how he used the glass and then on was a huge Tim Duncan fan
Timmy made perfect fundamentals look routine. Like others in the comments have said, Tim plays so consistently without flair, just precise applications of basics in their purest form, yet he was putting up ridiculous numbers every night.
The look on his daughters face, at the end of this video where they reveal this retired number in the rafters, is amazing. She understands how much that crowd, that city loves her dad.
Timmy will always be my guy. He never missed/sat a game whenever i would go watch the spurs. Same thing with AI. They never let their fans down. Respect man!
Seriously? You gonna compare a guy like Duncan, that played the game the way it should be played, with some chump like Iverson? The cat that ruined the league by turning it into the Ghetto Basketball Association? Don't do Big Fundy like that.
Born and raised in the 210 and a third generation Spurs fan... There will never be another one like Timmy and I'm just thankful I was alive to witness his greatness in totality. The whole Kawhi episode between the timing of it being right after Tim's retirement and the nature of the DYSFUNCTION that occurred that ultimately lead to his departure, for me, it only helped give perspective and forced me to appreciate Timmy's legacy that much more and I hope he truly knows how much the fan base genuinely loves him for being him.... Go Spurs Go!!!!
That’s how you know he lead by example regarding Pop grilling him during games when Stephen Jackson says “well if Timmy is taking what am I gonna do and that made me a better player” a true leader by example
One of the things that is underrated about Tim is agents wanted to him to go to nba after his sophomore year at Wake Forest. Tim would have been a number one pick if he did, but chose to stay 4 yrs. Tim was a great collegiate player as well.
I miss that Spurs team. They were good every year. Even when they lost the playoffs they kept the same core and came back ready to win the next season.
Dude I love these compilations! Especially that you picked out the players who tell these stories and don’t tell them yourself like some other channels
Because he was boring to most. I’m always atstonisher by people who put someone like Kobe above Duncan on the all time list, I watched both of their careers and it isn’t even close who was the more impactful player. Duncan has the best case for top 5 out of his whole generation
The most painful part of me as a San Antonio Spurs Fan is when Timmy retired via Text Message or Phone call to Coach Pop that he wont join the Training Camp and will retire. the Trade of Tony Parker to Hornets to make Dejounte Murray the Starting Guard of Spurs and the Retirement of Manu :(
Tim said that’s his most rewarding championship because of Sheed and Ben Edit : Because they were defending champs and their defense . Detroit had everything they were so tough
Growing up in San Antonio we just had this "hatred" for the Lakers, especially come playoffs. 8:26 is the reason I teared up so hard when I found out about Kobe. Iron sharpens iron and he's part of our Spurs history.

Just because Timmy D didn't have a look at me type of attitude he's underrated and when talking to fans his name doesn't come up a lot when speaking of top players. Not a SA fan but I will always appreciate being able to see him from rookie to prime to the end.
The guy hurt his foot in his early 30s and wasn't the same after that, then he went on to play for so long I think a lot of people were either too young to remember or simply forgot just how incredible this guy was. He'd play the whole team ball thing but when it came down to crunch time, I remember the Spurs just force-feeding Duncan over and over and he'd eat guys alive in the post. He could have put up 30 a game if that's the way he wanted to play. Part of why he was such a great leader, he didn't dominate the offensive side of the ball unless he really had to. Whole team was involved from beginning to end.
The crazy thing is if u adjust the stats for per 36 minutes he hadn't even changed that much after injury He has always stayed close to 20 and 10 in that the per 36 min stat sheer
exactly when they couldn't score just feed the ball the Tim and he gets it done. I remember he always schooling DeAndre Jordan, but when it's LeMarcus turn he gets dominated by DJ

I remember I went to a Clippers vs Spurs game when Lob City was in it's prime, being a Clippers fan I was excited to see this in person... Except they were playing the Spurs... Yeah no lobs that night, hardly any dunks. Witnessed greatness that night that left me disappointed as a Clippers fan but in awe as a Basketball fan.

I was in the eighth grade when the spurs won their first ring and 99 I was just becoming a big sports fan in fall of the Spurs my through my teens 20s and now 30s… so many great memories watching this video God I miss those all days!
Great presentation as always, and thank you for bringing "Timmy, the man!" He's quiet, doesn't talk thrash, not cocky, unassuming, but closely always gets the job done. My first-ever encounter of him was from a local mag in 1996, when he declined to go to the NBA because his priority is to finish his studies (a fulfilled promise to his mother before she died). He was sought-after prospect since his sophomore year (1995). He's easily the top pick in those years. Good thing for San Antonio, he stayed while the Spurs were tanking that 1996-97 season. In the process, TD became the final player that brought immediate impact to the league with a college diploma.
Funny thing about that is that on the offseason that Ray Allen signed with Miami I remember telling anybody that would listen that he was perfect for San Antonio

That's real respect 🥺
Edit: thanks for the likes and comments
Tim: It's an honor for the award to have your name on it.
Man has always been first class.
21:28 Wow. 🥲 What a compliment from Bill Russell. Both great men first and great athletes second.

Kinda obvious too though tbh 😂😂
Bill Russell called Duncan his favorite player. That’s all you need right there

Fact
“Tim Duncan is a great.” - Kawhi Leonard
Pretty wordy for him right🤔🤔
Forever colourful
Thanks kahwi 😒
He ain’t wrong
Also Kawhi Leonard............................................. I'm a fun guy.
Tim Duncans toughest opponent was Ref. Joey Crawford.
He did smile too much
Crawford was insane
Facts! Lol
Timmy was like Hakeem. They wouldn’t get into your trash talking bait , they only smile or reply you with easy talk but that’s more intimidating because they back it up with their monster performances
Nah Hakeem was said to be a talker. All the guys he was being guarded by or who were teammates give stories about his talking. He wasn’t a major trash talker but he definitely wasn’t quite.

I always felt he was underrated. He wasn’t flashy just efficient and got it done. Love this guy.
Tim Duncan was on the wrong end of 2 iconic buzzer beaters, a 0.4 second Derrick Fisher miracle and Ray Allen 3 pointer in 2013. Minus those San Antonio tragedies, Timmy would have ended with 7 rings and he would have a really strong argument for THE best player of all time
Well doesn't matter at least he have five ring....When some so called great player right now can't even win one ring
Don't forget, his coattailing head coach took him out of the game for that Allen shot, when they were up 5 with 28 seconds to go and needing defensive stops.
THATS A FACT
@@DecemberSkyfire coattailing? Pop is one of the biggest reasons why the spurs won 5. Im from San Antonio. San Antonio hadn't won shit until they got him, yes Tim Duncan is a factor, but Pop brought championships to San Antonio when he became the head coach.
And if those two hillbillies hadn't killed MJ's dad he'd have ended up with _8 rings_ (in a row!) and things would be just like they are now...with NO argument who THE best player of all-time is.
Timmy was arguably the best of his generation. Yes, Kobe included.
Kobe was my favorite player growing up cuz of his passion and mentality. But if you asked me who I'd start pick to to start my franchise with, it would be Duncan, if I needed to win 1 single game like a game 7 or something I'm riding and dying wit kobe. But I think Duncan was the best 2000's player
You’re not wrong
I think it’s honestly a personal preference thing. They both have pros and cons but there’s really no wrong answer.
They were that era’s Magic & Bird… but better… becuz there was also Shaq 😅🏀
He was no argument at all. TD beat Lebron like the big brother picking on his little one.
20:18 Bill Russell: "Tim Duncan played more like I played". Greatest team players to even play. Both Russell and Duncan are number 1 and 2 on defensive win shares! Without a question they did what was necessary for the team to win. And they were monsters on defense 👌
Best winners ever. Tim would be 6-0 if Pop didn't bench him in game 6 and let an inferior player miss the rebound.
People always default to offensive skills but forget the reason why their favorite player got stifled in the playoffs
Tim Duncan was always humble and quiet he never was a douchebag he just did his job and did it well hats off to him straight up
Tim Duncan is the reason I'm a basketball fan. So pumped to watch this! Just started
Did you enjoy it?
Hey for sure, a top 10 player of all time but as far as beinga a fan and enjoying his game vs what Garnet, Dirk, Sabonis( Soviet era), Jokic, and even Embid have on offer.... Nah. He is better than all of them on a consistency basis but Prime Dirk and Garnet and Olympic Sabonis were all a better watch..
People don't understand that Timmy had that dawg in him. Not the ferocious, loud one, but the quiet pack leader that sits back watching over everyone. But when it was time, Tim put in work. Mr. Fundamental, 1 of the greatest to ever do it
Duncan is the greatest player of the 2000s... Second is Kobe, third is KG. Do with that what you will, a majority who are 30+ will 100% agree. Dude is top 8 all time imo
I have him at 7 all time... One of the only players to actually make his teammates better... Made three hall of Fame players from the draft, and a hall of Fame coach
No way KG is over Shaq in that decade so he's probably fourth
@@Black14825 Shaq was only dominate for like 4-5 years of that decade... Not the whole decade, so you're wrong. If we're taking all time, yes Shaq is better
@@carefulilickwindows6881 KG was NEVER dominant in the 2000s.... He was great, but at no time was he considered the best... His most dominant years was on a losing team, so it had no impact
First of Kobe wasn't great 2000s that was Shaq and Kobe was in 2009. Tim Duncan yes
He was just plain great at everything: Offense, defense, fundamentals, intangibles, leadership, being a good team-mate, being a professional - and he was just as great off the court. There will never be another player like him, and he's far higher on the list of "Best Ever" than almost anyone ranks him (and I don't mean among Power Forwards).
I mean I rank him third (Jordan, Bird, Duncan).
@@petejohnson7918 I think he's easily in the Top 10 - not sure I'd personally put him as high as third, but there's definitely a case to be made.
He’s on my Mt Rushmore
@@petejohnson7918 Christ. I _really_ liked watching Bird play but the media has all you young cats MAD overrating him. Larry ain't the second best player of all-time man. C'mon. He's probably top 10 though.
That's the best thing about Tim and it's why he's the best PF ever! When we're we're kids hitting the back board meant you were trash! This man made a living off the backboard! And you couldn't stop it! You knew what he was gonna do and all you could do was watch. His movements so fluid, so chill so calm.. but a damn beast! Timmy Fuckin D.

The mutual respect between Duncan and Bill Russel was very nice to watch.
As a spurs fan born in ‘96. I literally grew up with greatness and was spoiled with a posteseason berth every year. Now that I’m older I just appreciate it even more because it’s tough to watch my spurs these days😭
THANK YOU TIMMY🖤
(5 BIG RINGS)
You're not alone, I'm also a Spurs fan born in '96. Watching the rebuild is tough, ngl but atleast they got Keldon now. He's looking pretty solid.
I love this surfer dude
he surfs??
He’s very soft spoken. This man just wins and just goes about his life in a calm manner lol.
I personally never found him boring to watch. I find it quite entertaining to watch him destroy everybody on the block
Its a casual narrative. If you appreciate the art of the game you will love Duncan.

My favorite player of all time!!! Thank you for giving him his RESPECT!!!
I love the parallels between Timmy and Bill Russell.
@@thomasmac6061 The key difference is that Tim was better than Shaq, but Bill was nowhere near Wilt.
The best player of the post-Jordan era, period. Calling his shot before 2014 NBA Finals (we've got 4 more to win, we'll do it this time) and backing it up in spades, never gets mentionned enough.
greatest margin of victory in the finals, still to this day.
My spurs whooped that ass 4-1 and sent LeBron back to Cleveland after a devastating game 6 loss the previous year…
That's probably the most provocative and borderline arrogant statement he uttered publicly.
And he gets the job done by giving his vital part for a team-first, collective pursuit.
There's even a clip in G1 LeBron "teasing" Tim about it.
Four (4) games later, LeBron suddenly missed Cleveland.
2nd after Lebron post-Jordan era, still insanely underrated.
Tim Duncan is may favorite player, but him being the best after Jordan is wrong. That goes to the Black Mamba. May he RIP!

Duncan won 4 titles without a teammate making an All-NBA team.
Magic did it twice, but played when there were only 2 All-NBA teams.
No one else has done is more than once. Tim is top 5 all time without question.
That 03 run is magical but somehow its still underrated. He had to go against shaq and kobe and his best team mate was sophomore tony.
@@markpagtama7954 Exactly, casuals read names on a stat sheet and think Robinson in 03 played like Robinson of 93, or Parker of 03 was Parker from 2012. His 4 best teammates were Robinson at 38 averaging 8/6, Parker averaging 14 on 39% shooting getting benched most 4th quarters for Speedy Claxton; Manu in his rookie season and Stephen Jackson who was cut from the Nets. With that team Duncan won a title, averaged 11 more PPG than his next best scorer, was the best defender in the league and his teams best playmaker.

Timmy made perfect fundamentals look routine. Like others in the comments have said, Tim plays so consistently without flair, just precise applications of basics in their purest form, yet he was putting up ridiculous numbers every night.

One of the things that is underrated about Tim is agents wanted to him to go to nba after his sophomore year at Wake Forest. Tim would have been a number one pick if he did, but chose to stay 4 yrs. Tim was a great collegiate player as well.
the reason why he stay four years in college was because of a promise he gave to his mother: to go to college and get a degree.

Damn near burst in tears when Bill Russell spoke to Timmy
The guy hurt his foot in his early 30s and wasn't the same after that, then he went on to play for so long I think a lot of people were either too young to remember or simply forgot just how incredible this guy was. He'd play the whole team ball thing but when it came down to crunch time, I remember the Spurs just force-feeding Duncan over and over and he'd eat guys alive in the post. He could have put up 30 a game if that's the way he wanted to play. Part of why he was such a great leader, he didn't dominate the offensive side of the ball unless he really had to. Whole team was involved from beginning to end.
The crazy thing is if u adjust the stats for per 36 minutes he hadn't even changed that much after injury
He has always stayed close to 20 and 10 in that the per 36 min stat sheer
exactly when they couldn't score just feed the ball the Tim and he gets it done. I remember he always schooling DeAndre Jordan, but when it's LeMarcus turn he gets dominated by DJ
I'm old enough to remember praying Warriors don't face TD and the Spurs in playoffs.

He's quiet, doesn't talk thrash, not cocky, unassuming, but closely always gets the job done.
As a Magic fan, Doc is never to be forgiven for this. Truly the “Orlando Tragics”
If it wasn’t for ray Allen Duncan would’ve been undefeated in the finals and I’m sure he would have been in more in Goat conversations than he is now
Funny thing about that is that on the offseason that Ray Allen signed with Miami I remember telling anybody that would listen that he was perfect for San Antonio
