#147 Good morning, Robert. Many years ago, last century, I use to wheel steam ships on Lake Michigan. The Lake was so clean and clear, then. Especially during the winter when the ice had a shadow blue color and you could see farther into the lake water, as is was clear. I miss those days, but still remember them at my age of 73. Take care and Travel On!

That sunset was the best! I was at that campground 4 years ago .... never saw so many wood ticks in one place - they were climbing up the legs of the lawn chair. Wood ticks, not the deer ticks so just go prepared with spray.

I knew this area well as a kid. Dead fish lined the Lake Mich shore back then (1960's) and I'm sure the outflow from the steel plant is why you couldn't swim in it.

Happy Sunday, Robert. Did I hear you, the veteran of Angels Landing, say "Stairs...these are always tough."? You really got a workout in this episode, eh? :-) Really nice shot of the fat old sun(Pink Floyd reference) slipping over the horizon. and I love the sound of crickets on your way back to camp. Next time you're in the Lake Michigan area, consider a trip across the lake on the SS Badger.
Thanks again for doing the driving while I sit back and enjoy my Sunday coffee. Happy trails!

What a gorgeous part of the US. I visit the US (in normal times) around 4-5 times a year, but this is one state I really don't know and now I'm itching to visit! I really miss travelling to the States - almost everyone I've met has been super friendly and hospitable - absolutely wonderful. I find American's to be warm hearted, generous and welcoming - I hope I can visit a couple of times later this year and your videos always make me long to be 'stateside' - keep up the fantastic work and greetings from the UK

I swam in Lake Michigan many many times at the Chicago south side lake front parks, Indiana Dunes and Michigan dunes area south of South Haven, MI. Brings back great memories of my childhood over 60 years ago. It was ALWAYS COLD ! Maybe it changed due to global warming ?
I read recently that the location of Chicago was due to the existence of a approximately 3 mile wide shallow swamp that canoes had to portage around to make a route that was all water from St Lawrence River from the Atlantic Ocean to the mouth of Mississippi River in the Gulf of Mexico. Chicago has a North side neighborhood named Portage Park.

I wonder shy they decided they had to build stairs to get to the top of 192 foot "peak"? The could have just switch backed a trail up the hill. It would have actually been easier to hike up and cost way less money. Stairs would have made a lot more sense coming back up the sand dunes. The lake can get to 80 near shore at the end of a warm summer, and the swimming is usually nice with no rip currents to worry about. The water in all the Great Lakes has undergone a tremendous clean up over the last 50 years.

While you are proud of your creation , it become monotonous . Indiana is an interesting state. A taste of mississippi next to Ohio. The most southern northern state.
