NOTES: GUIDED BY VOICES - LIVE IN LA (Rockathon 1996). Here is my favorite live video of one of my favorite bands of all time. It was put out by Rockathon but has been out of print for years. Professionally shot at the Whisky A Go Go in Los Angeles on May 10, 1996. This performance features the "classic" GBV lineup (minus Greg Demos - Matt Sweeney from Chavez fills in). This video is over two hours long and features 43 songs and FIVE encores! Enjoy.

I can't stand how horrific the kick drum is. The FOH engineer was probably a death metal or ska fan. The monitor feedback is usually cus of Bob's "cuffing" of the SM57. As an audio engineer I've seen this at Sapphire Supper Club in Orlando in 1999; then, they used a Sabine on the monitors. The F/B was targeted and gone in 10 minutes and Bob had all the monitor he needed at that amazingly crazy show.
I'm amazed how tame the crowd was. In Orlando 'we' were nuts and Bob was soaked with beer that was tossed on him in a total celebration of seeing GBV for the first time in our lives. It was such an amazing show. I'll never forget it.....ever.

I was here/there. grateful. sad for lost time. Typical Whisky show - no legit sound person. I actually grabbed a set list from the stage and then gave it back after realizing I was too eager. I was part of the problem. Bob's lack of vocals was a real problem. We couldn't hear any Bob in the front. When music was good and live music was great .... and real.
