Wow we all get older don't we. Just had to say when my son was 10 (1996) I played GBV a lot around the house, in the car etc. He seemed indifferent to their music. Now he's 28, loves the band and even his girlfriend does too. My job is done .... ~: )
This is what the internet was invented for. Utterly magnificent. Mitch throwing shapes throughout the set without any hint of irony or self-consciousness. Glad to see they’ve hit form again in the past few years. Perhaps the most under-rated band of all time. A bit like The Fall, once you become a fan it’s like a religion.
I was 20 and took a plane to Oslo with my buddy. Drank beer and smoked cigarettes on the first row. They played everything I could have wished for and nailed it. We left on a plane the next day. GBV
i made the mistake of listening to devo. i thought myfucking god, if i want to hear a good band from ohio, i'll stick with pere ubu or guided by voices. man o man, are these guys good!
I'm from Ohio and have seen GBV 25 times, combined in Ohio and New York. I saw Pollard solo once in 2006. I've lived in Germany since 2009, and couldn't make it to what in 2018 seems to be their last ever show outside of North America, so to you, sir, hats off!

My only beef. And some sets, an hour too long. But ya cant leave...the Jon Stewart Show performace is smoking. Back in the 90s, Bob had a listed phone number...my friend used to call him and chat. Love how their music is so idiosyncratic and yet popular. I wish more bands would do what these guys do......and be weird, unique. the fact that GBV is successful gives me hope.
28:45........ that moment that you realize Bob has written so many albums that he can't even remember which album Jane of the Waking Universe was on. :)
I bet Jane was supposed to be one of the bonus tracks on UtB,UtS but they cut it (for length maybe) and then they decided, correctly, that it was too good to be a b-side so it was shelved till it could be a big deal a-side on what was gonna be a big-deal record. Pure spec here on my part but it smells pretty truthy hey?
17 years since we saw them, throws us back in time, nothing's changed except a little less drinking, "it's r&r time" they're still so amazingly powerfull!!
a favorite band thought to be dead and gone to suddenly reappear, right in your own back yard. so sick to be there and to re-live it now. thanks boys - keep it in motion
I saw them in 2018 in NC. It was a fresh start on a leg of their Space Gun tour. It was amazing. I'd kinda fallen off and stopped paying attention as far as the new lineup was concerned. Didn't know what to expect. They came out in their matching silver jackets and blew me away for 3 hours. Best show I've ever seen. I wish Bob would just quit the alcohol, but regardless, he remains the consummate performer. Hoping to see him New Years Eve 21 showing off his new titanium hip.
my favourite part is at around 59:14 when a holy trinity of moments happen: demos points his bass at the audience, immediately followed by a shot of a hot blonde just smiling while everyone surrounding her is possessed by the chorus, and at same moment the lyric "you can teach me all you know",
Damn. Wish theyd play a set like this some day again. All hits. (I was probably like 4 years old at the time so I missed my chance). Theyre still so great live but the classics are the classics yknow
What a wonderfully shot show. I wish there were more like it. GbV have been making a consistent case that rock n' roll actually is in no need of "saving" for 3 decades.
not sure about the lineup itself (they're definitely not the tightest live version of GBV) but goddamn the setlists on the classic lineup reunion tours were insane. almost too good to be true for a GBV fan.
+SpookyApparition, you are right, this iteration of the band could be somewhat sloppy, but from a fan that appreciated their lo-fi records the sloppiness is a factor I LOVE within their sound. The setlist is bonkers too! Spot on observation.
the current line up is making a great case for being the best, since august by cake, GBV has been killing it with the new records. maybe the second golden era even!
This is superb. Better than any other GBV live recordings I've heard or seen yet. It would make a great officially released CD/DVD. The sound is as near as dammit perfect, Bob is in great voice (as is Tobin). I miss what Doug brought to the party, but otherwise this is unbeatable.

im going to say it, do the collapse is criminally underrated and quite frankly i cant understand for the life of me what some of the fans see in a record like bee thousand while panning to me one of their greatest records. under the bushes under the stars is undoubtedly their best though.

I just discovered this band 3 days ago and I was 58.. now I'm 30 again
Welcome down into the Pollard-rabbit-hole.
It's like where has this 🤔 GOAT band been all my life? Lol. Crank it up! 🤘
more like 24.

It be like that 🤷♂️
GBV saved the world.
Such a true fact that I found it I. The dictionary! GBV! GBV! GBV!!!!!!!!
Robert Pollard is in the top of his game with his voice in this concert
I'm guessing that a roadie somewhere backstage always has a half-smoked Marlboro on standby for Mitch. I've never seen him with a fresh cigarette.

and that's how you rock out 24 bangers in 60 minutes kids.

"Under The Bushes, Under The Stars...Under Your Couches, Under Your Cars" The unequaled wit of Robert Pollard.
I quote Mr. Pollard from a previous show, "Under the tables, under the bars"....
