Soothe is great - tje price is inflated, and unrealistic. Surprised it takes so long for competitors and improved versions to come onto the market...Now we have several to choose from.
Probably a patent issue. I first heard about soothe in 2016, maybe 2017? Patents are like 7 years. The timing lines up. Kinda like how Kemper was the only thing that did what it did and now there are several alternatives.
So I do like that Equator works both as resonance suppressor and tone shaper(towards pink noise) but I think there's one thing missing. The problem resonance suppressors tend to have is that you spend a lot of time fiddling around because either its clamping down too hard on formant frequencies(which also affects transients) or not enough and is harsh/muddy. I feel like if they had a parallel mode using the delta(and isolate the group of frequencies you want) you could reintroduce certain uncompressed resonances just enough so the overall sound feels balanced but not lifeless. For those wondering, the pink noise frequency response is generally sought after because it's frequency energy is balanced per octave(leading to a balanced sound). But you don't want your sound to follow this 100%- you still need certain resonances to give the sound tonal qualities(rather than sounding more like noise) and act as transient information.
@@oinkooink That's not what I'm saying though. I'm not wanting the plugin to make mixing decisions for me actually . This plugin is a spectral downwards compressor that that follows the target curve you set. You don't need it to recognize what are the problematic resonances actually because you can actually introduce some of those resonances in parallel. The delta function on plugins like soothe 2 allow you hear what frequencies you're attenuating(which will be resonances). Now if you took this delta function(with a high/low pass to isolate specific resonances you want) and had it as a parallel signal to the compressed signal, you would a clean, balanced signal that still has important resonances.
@@oinkooink Oh for sure 🙂 if that's what you like. Just many find that a very time consuming process(especially if you have a lot of synths/instruments).

Smooth operator really isn't a good plugin to remove resonances. It's a decent de harsher which is a different thing, or a space maker. Soothe 2 was the most overhyped plugin of an entire year when released. I ended up spending so many hours learning every nuance of it so I could at least say I wasn't to blame when I couldn't get results. For removing resonances, what it was designed for, it's actually *terrible* and to me the worst of all the resonance removing plugins. To de harsh certain frequencies, THAT'S where it had some use and it should have never been advertised as anything but. I sold it and never looked back and will never fall for forum hype again and trust my self from now on. To remove resonances, nothing I have tried so far can do it like WA Production deres. looks great. but for the topic of side chaining to make space for masked signals, track spacer is still king. its so much easier and faster to use than soothe & Co. just tweak the low/ high range and use amount and your reward. then tweak M/S and attack / release on the advanced page. very easy to get transparent results.
@@IamHovaFlo Absolutely, on top of that it is very easy to use. It sounds very transparent up to 12-15%. Use it in Mid side moden and go more towards Mid, so the lead vocal gets lots of space there. It's also very MONO compatible. Make sure to use the band limiting - low cut up to 180-240hz depending on how much "Low space" your vocal needs - high cut to taste. For a lead vocal I would go with a fast attack and medium to fast release and you will get a totally transparent result. You will simply hear the vocal much better without feeling the cut in the instruments. You can also use it for make low mid - high mid space for lead vocals in the backing vocals, again M/S is good here as BVs are usually wider anyway, and this will be extra transparent and make lots of space for the Lead without affecting the impact of the BVs. It's just the easiest way to do this quickly and transparently. Don't go too heavy on the percentage it should not feel like "ducking", just turn it up so that you get more clarity in the Lead. Also can be used for lead guitars or other lead instruments, to give them their "body" back in the mix.
My first impulse would be "waves? No." But i bought soothe 2 times. the best thing about it is will force Soothe to lower in price.. as £167 is rather crazy.. & in the year I have been looking at soothe im yet to see it have an offer price.
its been full price all the time. (I could well have missed all the deals, its not like im looking daily or weekly)
I basically see it for 199 euros all the time as well, but I might have missed a sale somewhere somehow.
@@audiotoolshed not that its not worth the money,.. but really!
Thanks for the review!
It's not on my list of considerations.
They usually have a Black Friday discount
@@Iceleben I much have completly miscast years. as every Tim eI have looked its full price xD I will keep my eyes open
never forget waves dodgy business practices. a company you can't trust.
They absolutely did mess up not too long ago.
@hughlawson5399 thats why I own all their stuff and have never paid them a dime and I'm gonna do the same with this as soon as r2r cracks it lol
looks great. but for the topic of side chaining to make space for masked signals, track spacer is still king. its so much easier and faster to use than soothe & Co. just tweak the low/ high range and use amount and your reward. then tweak M/S and attack / release on the advanced page.
very easy to get transparent results.
@@realraven2000 hey u think trackspacer would be the better choice for getting vocals to sit better in a two track instrumental?
Nice video, nice comparison ! For me, Soothe 2 is the king
My first impulse would be "waves? No."
But i bought soothe 2 times. And stopped buying oeksound plugins after spiff and having to buy soothe twice (because the first version just didn't work, so they fixed it and named it -2-).
Now this looks a bit like Soothe with a touch of the bonkers expensive (for what it is) Bloom. And I'd have to update it 4 times after buying to get to the price of Bloom, or three times to reach my price for a functioning Soothe...
The end of the story, i don't know, maybe "waves no" 😂
Soothe has always sounded cardboard boxy to me....not sure what it is, but seems to flatten everything...
And then there's the waves update program so no matter what, Soothe wins. Screw waves!
Happily running v11 plugin here on windows. No need for WUP at all so far.
Yep that’s the only thing that puts me off using waves, update program, shame on you waves.
Yeah, running Reaper on Windows and still using plugins from the 90s no problems...
I still think DSEQ3 is better at suppressing resonances.
DSEQ3 and Soothe2 are all that I need, Reso/Smooth Operator are just ok. Waves is late to the party imo.
@@beatsandstuff M-Clarity by Techivation is pretty good also, but I think it works best as a de-boxing plugin rather than suppressing resonances.
I've been loving Soothe for several years now, after working with this for a short while - I can honestly say I'm enjoying Equator's flexibility much more.
DSEQ3 also sounds great but its interface is too much for me.
What about comparison with TBProAudio DSEQ3?
Waves? No thank you
@@hamisheginet Is it 39 dollars? When you install it will you have to update the centre software for even more money and have your old plug ins stop working.
Waves the only company that makes you rebuy plugins im straight 😂
@Riktenstein we're on to you waves. I decided to remove a large amount of my waves plugins because of this reason. Their business model is very shady, charging their customers again on order to update the plugins they already have should be criminal. That being said this does look like a useful tool 🤦♂️
@@hazardmouth1420 i have sooth and use it daily for work so a great plug-in. Should probably be priced lower now the competition has turned up.
TB Proaudio DSEQ3 is a great tool, much cheaper than Soothe 2, and has many more options to modify its processing.
No Thanks. I am good on Waves.
The bigger different that I can see is that with Soothe 2 is one time payment and with Wave Cuves Equator you will be paying for your life time. Thanks
if like me u use soothe2 to make percussion sound more comportable u cool and dont need that one.
DSEQ3 has all this already apart from the multi-band sensitivity, which would be useful
It's not a resonance surpessor
surpessor? 😁
I wounnt buy waves plug ins if they were the last company on Earth
waves? hahah. no thank you
Waves are great!

the only thing waves kills is their customers.
I think they will laugh at this comment with their turnover.

I'm not very keen on israeli products at the moment........
I'll buy it to make up for that then.
Soothe will never die🙌 😂😂😂
Good video. But im done with waves too.
idc if it guarantees me the greatest mix of all time.. I'm not using waves
Better off buying soothe because waves will try and get you on more fees etc later
Yo, isn't this what ANY sidechain compressor does? 🤔🤔🤔 😑😑😑

The Soothe 2 killer? Funny.
Sorry to, i feel better the music when it "Bypass"
Honestly, plugin companies are out of ideas.
Personally, I'm refraining from purchasing products made in a certain country UNTIL they STOP the violence over there.
Completely agree... and someone removed my previous comment. It seems that the "certain country" is unquestionable.
Waves has software deals with Google, Dell, Intel, Toshiba, Sony, LG, Qualcomm, Acer, and Audeze. Good luck!
Waves sucks, I hate the way they handle clients. Besides that it's Sooth killer no. 10 on the market so Sooth is dead!
£39 per year no thanks
It's not per year. 🙄
@@kadiummusic Sure!
@@Mike-vr7mb It's not.
@@stevenroach2296 it is!!
Waves = Lames
Bit tames.
I'm still not convinced that this is a Sooth killer, Sooth is special and I still keep it on my wishlist, even though it costs 200 dollar, which hopefully will drop a bit. The multiband functionallity of equator gives away that equator is not like Sooth, Sooth does a much better job of removing harshness! The same could be said about Waves Silk when I watched the review. Instead of trying to beat Sooth 2 , Waves should focus on getting awesome plugins emulations on the market! They have been messing around too much lately with plugin concepts which look aweful and modern and their unhealthy focus on A.I is also raising red flags! I would ratrher see studio gear emulations of famous units being crafted so people can get the gear their like but can't afford.
Doesn't make sense.
Competition is good and it just may drive the price of soothe down. You don't think that is good for us?
