Teal, I’ve been running and aftermarket adapter that removes the router and powers the Starlink direct from 12v or 48VDC. Saves about 10-15 watts while it running. Important for those of us on batteries. Ping me if you want a contact to get one of these adapters.
Teal, you and "The Crew" keep "Basik" looking great !!!!! "Thickened Epoxy for "Everyone" !!!!! Shout out to Emma, You have to get your Mom and Dad's permission for "Thickened Epoxy". Thanks for the ride and God Bless.
A feature I like about Starlink is that the antenna will self defrost when the temps drop below freezing. It is not necessary to remove snow and ice from the antenna due to the design. It is also a phase-array antenna which will self steer to the appropriate constellation of Starlink satellites while you are underway. Imagine making cell phone calls (over wifi of course) while you are 100s or plus miles off shore and underway! Yep, its a game changer!!
You should look at STAR-MOUNT SYSTEMS they have a mounting that will FLAT MOUNT your Starlink . It ends up being only INCH TALL AND WILL NOT SHADOW SOLAR panels. Their kit cuts off the pole and tilt motors and installs into a WATERPROOF Star board flat panel with O RING SEAL AROUND THE CLEAR LEXAN TOP. The panel will work just the same as it does now and simply makes it like the expensive $2500 flat panel but even more compact. This DIY kit likely costs less than the stainless post you had made as well. IT LOOKS AMAZING. You have the tools and skill to do this conversion yourself on board. CHEERS AND FAIR WINDS Steve h. Ps; The boat is looking amazing with the paint refresh, GREAT JOB ALL

The joy the tape ball gives Teal is hilarious but I understand completely the feeling of a project completed. Love the pride you guys put in to everything in your lives.

We shared our StarLink in one anchorage in the Sea of Cortez with other cruisers. We had 15 users on our server and pretty sure everyone was streaming Netflix while we were there...just amazing!
Well hi there again. Hey, I know these people. 🙂 I've been wondering where you would mount the antenna. Seems like a logical spot to me. I really enjoyed this one.
Hey Ryan! They are getting close to La Paz if not already there. We probably missed them by a few days. Already heading across to the mainland. Cheers buddy!
Ahoy Basik, Teal, Linh and Emma, my favorite sailing family... the fresh paint looks magnificent...great work [as usual]... I think of you all often and imagine being there with you... Here is something I think you all will enjoy...some beautiful music from a live concert [lots of violins Emma]... When I listen to this I can picture Basik and it's crew cutting through the water on a perfect day, the sails full... enjoy! ruclips.net/video/r9f-bTGJO4s/видео.html till next time, see ya then...
Teal, check out Alluring Arctic Sailings last episode with his wiring issue with Starlink. Not to say you would have the same issue he had, just some interesting problem he had with his Starlink. . Great job as always, thanks for another great video guys!
ok, i must say. I was kind of expecting Teal to design a articulating mount for the StartLink. One that would allow the antenna to be flung out of the way of the solars and make sure not to hit your head as you egress. Nice job... :)
Always enjoy y’all’s videos! Nice mount job too. Hey Linh , you did a great job, but future reference taping,FYI. When repairs are done in a body shop and pin stripes have to be replaced there’s a particular technique to it. Instead of like 4” to 6” at a time, with someone helping, pull off maybe starting with 6 or 8 ft . Tack down the starting point well, walk the length of the tape down the side and with your face close to the hull, look down the length of the tape, pull it tight, then slowly ease the tape down on the line you’re following. Just slightly touching the tape in a few spots as you go. It becomes easy to look down the tape line to see how strait it is (and use longer lengths of tape)If not then just pull it up and start over. It gets much easier and faster with practice! Looks like you did a great job anyway! Sorry to be so long winded about this, just wanted to help y’all save time next time. Practice makes...better🙃,no such thing as perfect,(not even Teal)😉! Stay safe and healthy ⛵️
Brilliant episode as always, but I must confess to who's now the "adult" amongst the female population. Linh seems to be getting more playful and younger, whilst Emma becomes more responsible and calls the shots. As for Teal, well I reckon he was born aged 42 - complete with a tool-set instead of diapers!
If you were to ask…I’ll bet Teal isn’t going to complain if Linh gets more”playful”!?! 🙃😉 Teal! I hope you know how lucky you are!?! Seriously, a beautiful family.
@10:20 Sounds like Compass is under a significant amount of stress that was completely ignored by the crew.... and I would have stopped at the auto parts store and purchased a thin sheet of rubber gasket material to place in between the stainless bracket and the aluminum solar panel frame. But she's looking great, as always.
Teal, hope you've got a thin piece of nylon between those two pieces. GALVANIC CORROSION will occur between 2 dissimilar metals. Also, nylon washers need to be added to the bolted connection as well mate
I saw a video from an overlander in Equador, I think, who took off the motorized base and 3D printed a new flat base, and removed the starlink modem to run everything off 12 vdc instead of inverting DC to AC then back to DC for the Starlink equipment. Apparently, there is nothing special in the starlink modem and can be ethernet connected to a wireless access point.
When I drilled the hole 4 years ago I rounded the edges smooth. I have inspected that harness periodically and have seen no chaffing yet. Linh has made chaff guards on other harnesses around basik and will probably make one for this bundle as well.

You can buy a StarLink system in Mexico for around $500 usd and get a $300 usd credit and only pay around $50 usd per month...so bring on the competition! We have been running ours for 7 months with no hiccups. If something better comes along we would have no problems with it. For now, StarLink stands alone!
Not too much considering we are also sanding most of the old stuff off then you factor how much is left once the paint is dry. So far, we have either gotten lighter or its a wash in weight since we have been slowing replacing anything heavy with lighter building materials. Think about how much weight we lost when we built our hardtop. Just that alone was a loss of over 300lbs.
Putting two dissimilar metals next to each other will cause electrolysis!! Put a rubber gasket between the two and your good to go.looks great as always Fair winds
that SS barstock has crevices in it that will result in early crevice corrosion. It should be polished to a mirror finish. SS is not an idea marine metal, not even 316, unless you polish it removing all crevices.
Sorry to be critical but I would never use Philips head screws on the outside of my boat. I would use grub screws (what we call them) with Allen Key heads instead.
That is probably better, but in this case, we use what we can get our hands on. Can't be choosy when we are in an area where marine stainless is hard to come by.

No doubts that Teal is a detail perfectionist type as it definitely shows in his projects... and choice of crew!

Basik has never had gelcoat. Most likely because of the weight.

14:08 - Yikes, a 'sail-by' assault; 'poke on the water'; 'hit and run-downwind'...? Must've missed that episode. Bummer, but nice repair job; eesshh.
FWIW: went back and watched episodes 210 & 211.
I don't know if Teal and Emma mentioned anything to you Linh, but while you were home slaving away, they were both scoffing spatchcock chicken.

I have a question. How did you separate the Starlink dish from its cable? How did you reattach it? Do you have video of that process? Thanks!
It's just a watertight plug...simple!
I'm shocked that Teal took that many months to properly install the starlink. Didn't think he could wait that long. 😁😁😁
It drove me crazy but most of the Sea of Cortez is very remote and Penasco was our first stop that had the materials to finish the project.
That pipe and plate looked so much bigger than your sketch,😖☹🥴😉 🥰
Hope you put a rubber or cork Gasket between the Aluminium and Stainless Steel also used Lock Nuts on that new Star Link Mount. Just saying lol.

Not in Penasco.
@@OnboardLifestyle Next time mate, just keep your hooks nice and sharp and you'll get a nibble or two

I see a very serious problem. Where all those cables are passing through the holes, I don't see any chaffing protection.

Is galvanic corrosion an issue with stainless and and aluminum contact?
A lot of innuendo there
Innuendo is unknowingly Linh's middle name! 😉

Is Starlink the best option to have internet while at seas? Is it expensive?
About 75% of all cruising boats that we see have it. Very few don't.
That chicken being cooked at the start looked horrible 🥴 do you have Starlink RV?
It was smoky deliciousness! 😋
as always a nice video, But I thought the top (deck ) was all that was gonna be painted.
That was our thought as well, but after inspection, there were some wear spots and areas we weren't happy with.
😎
It wouldnt be sailing if something wasnt being painted, sanded, epoxied or repaired. LOL
Do you think that shadowing the PV panel is a good idea?
As he said in the video, if the shadowing becomes a problem, they can always move it but that was the best spot at the time to allow getting the cabling inside.
Is that a stainless mount on an aluminum frame?
What’s with all of the paint?? Why didn’t you just gelcoat? I get bottom paint, but anything above the waterline should have been gel coated

Most hardware used to mount things to aluminum masts is stainless
My thoughts exactly, SS and aluminum, add some salt, makes for galvanic corrosion.
Yay alcohol abuse; Immediately clicks off change;.
