My Scotty Cameron Newport 2 was pricey, but over the course of my entire future golfing career (hopefully another 40+ years) its a pretty insignificant amount of money. It makes me feel better, it makes me practice putting more and it looks cool. Good enough reasons for me. And I've played plenty of blades and mallets at various price points, from $30 starter set putters to my $600 Newport 2. I've made plenty of putts with all of them but my Scotty is special to me and will be with me for life.
Bought a Scotty yesterday. Select Newport. High handicapper, but I love golf and can see myself playing for years. Therefore, it’s an investment for me.
Why do people spend more on drivers (and fittings for them) than putters? It's because we notice the strokes lost with the driver more than the putter i.e. when people slice it OOB with the driver they notice it and it sticks in your mind, when they miss a two foot putt they think "oh well, can't make them all". So i think there's a tendancy to remember bad drives and think that driving can be improved with a new club, but putting is all about us and our skill set so no need for a new one. Obviously this is all rubbish, it's always us and not the club. But i can stand on a tee of a course i have played once, and it could have been 5 years earlier, and i'll remember my terrible drive from last time and searching for the ball in the undergrowth. But i have forgotten almost all of my putts as soon as i finish a round. I believe this is why we are more inclined to splash out on drivers and fittings for them.
Tried a Scotty in the Pro Shop several years ago without knowing, what they are. Holed every putt. Borrowed it for a round on the course and bought it. It’s been the best investment in golf since. Saves me the most strokes of any new club bought.
inherently better putters? Two identical putters that fit your stroke perfectly - odyssey and scotty cameron (newport models for both) - which gives you the best opportunity to hole more putts? Personal choice? Is there one that gives the slightest of edges? I think so. Scotty's are worth it because of their feel, balance, and looks at address - nothing quite looks like or feels like a scotty, all bias aside. I've tried all sorts of putters, none better than Scotty bc of this. The attention to detail is second to none and I believe gives it the slightest edge over the toughest competitor. Worth it? Yes.
Hi Ali, Been watching your comments for ages, this is by far the best ,I think you have done. What a brilliant and honest review on these very expensive putters, for any one, like me who might be thinking about buying one, but,not sure because of the price, your comments ,no body has done such an informative review, thankyou, will think alot more about my future purchase. Keep up the good work. Kevin
I don’t putt well but I really look and feel good using my Scotty Cameron Newport 2 :). Practicality does not apply in golf no matter what anyone says LOL. It is the hardest game to be consistent on so you might as well feel and look good if you have the money. Cheers 🍻
Wanting to update my Laguna Scotty Cameron blade from the 90s to Newport select putter. Shop I’m getting it from hasn’t got Sam putt lab, I hope he’ll at least do custom fit. I reckon I’ll need 35 inch putter as in 6 feet .
I treated myself yesterday with a Super select squareback 2. I just went to replace my 2 year old Wilson that, though felt good and is a good putter, was a bit wavy bouty which didn't ive me confidence. I tried Odyssey's, Ping's, PXGs but the Scott Cameron just felt the best and most consistent. Just don't tell me wife how much I paid for it :D
Great content Ali and thanks for giving us a better understanding of the Scotty theory of length/arc etc. Have you tested the Phantom X range...and if so, what did you think of them please? I’m particularly interested to find out if you noticed much of a difference between the face balance model and their slight toe hang alternative. For example the Phantom X 12 vs the 12.5. Cheers Ali and keep up the great content 👍
Scotty Camerons hold their value very well. You do not lose much if anything if you sold down the road as long you kept it in excellent condition, whereas other putters lose half or more of their value, meaning your money is out the window. So actually... if you want to keep you money, it’s better invest in in Scotty. You can sell at anytime and get most or all of your money back.
I definitely don’t think you need to spend a ton of money on a putter. Because it’s not the putters fault you missed the putt. But I will say having a timeless piece of art in your bag you can use and pass on to your kids, is priceless.
I had a scotty when I first started golf some many years ago, but then moved to other brands.... I am now waiting for my new Scotty Newport 2 after being fitted before lockdown... and waiting even longer now due to the current CD-19 concerns... Chumping at the bit and looking forward to finally being able to seeing it in the flesh and using it.. Worth every penny and its an investment for the future of my golf . Great content as always Ali, stay safe.
Awesome video... I’m 5’-5” and i use a 32.5 inch, 3 deg flat Evnroll ER2.. ive had this putter since 2017 and its amazing with its groove technology, variable width grooves meant to give more energy on mishits from the face center ... they truly shine on longer putts, say more than 10+ feet when I’m not hitting the center of the face consistently.. Ive used the Ping App which gives you direct feedback as to your stroke type... mine came up as +8, strong arc... Ironically my ER2 has only about 25 degrees of toe hang which is considered “mid’ toe hang.... but the weighting (and feel) of the ER2 is amazing and I haven’t found one that can out perform it. I had a stability shaft installed and love the look of it, does it make a difference with the face closure? Not 100% convinced but then again I would need to be on a Quintec or Trackman to see the #’s Ironically last fall I custom ordered a Ping ZB2 with true roll face technology.. i had Ping WRX install about 20 grams of Tungsten powder in the head to raise the SW up.. I dialed down the shaft length to 32.5 “ and still had to put about 5 strip of lead tape to the sole to get the SW to D5..which is good enough.. My ER2 is E0 which is perfect for me.. I haven’t yet played with the Ping ZB2, but with its strong arc,it will be a good back up I have a few older Scotty Camerons, most notably a custom ordered Studio Select from 2010, customized with Italian Colors in the circles and my name in the flange! This one still feels awesome to this day, i swapped out the Skinny OEM grip and put a thick Super Stroke grip (counter balanced), cut it down to 33 inches and added some lead tape to the sole ..its at D7 SW which is nice for me . I haven’t putted with it in years, the fact that it has no groove technology makes me not play with it... Let’s face it, I’m a 2.4 handicap but even the best amateurs don’t hit the sweet spot on long putts and i sure don’t. Would i buy a SC. Now ? No, yes they are amazingly well crafted and beautiful but the performance for me wont surpass my Evnroll ER2 ! Side note: i like the Betternadi putters ... also expensive like Scotty C., they are a one piece FORGING similar to Scotty ... They have grooves but i don’t think they are corrective for distance control like Evnroll or Ping...
So funny people say this. People will drop $499 plus on a driver every few years. Irons will upgraded every 5 plus years and drop $899 plus but the club that scores or used most people want to be cheap on. And people hardly every change putters so why not invest in a quality putter Regardless of brand. So the question comes down to $499 plus a driver no issue buying. But a $399 putter people freak out🤷🏻♂️. I tested many Scotty’s for over a year to find my putter and I have no regrets about it. And I will tell you a quality master crafted fitted putter to me. You will putt better because you step on that green with more confidence
It's interesting, as a new golfer, how people will blow $500 on a driver and not think twice but somehow the club that gets the most use (IMO THE MOST important club in the bag) is expensive at $400. The driver doesn't even come out of the bag on a lot of holes. Weird.
People don't bat an eye to spend $500 or more on a driver they'll hit start thinking about replacing in a year or two, but they can't get over spending $400 on a putter they'll possibly have for the rest of their lives. Plus, you use a driver on like 12 holes and your putter (probably) on every hole. Do I make more putts with my Scotty? Maybe...Maybe not.. But it certainly makes it more enjoyable for me to use something with such satisfying craftsmanship and what I would consider a work of art.
Agreed. I think if u get fitted, and use it for the next 10-30 years, no harm done. Having said this, it kind of makes a statement. I would not want to be a duffer and show up with a $500 putter
@@chevy4x466 Then you can 3-putt in style. I'll be the first to admit that I doubt having a Scotty makes us mortals any better. I will say a nice set of forged irons makes a definite difference. I pitch darts with my Ping i525's, and my shots roll out with my cast PXGs. I'm sure I could hit just as many ducks with an OK shotgun and drive screws with a walmart drill. But I'm a self-admitted gear queer and it makes me happy to play with nice toys. Sometimes I'm on fire with my Scotty, and sometimes I wonder what the hell I was aiming at or how I managed to blast it three feet past the hole, but that's golf.
I've had a few. They are top end of craftsmanship and feel great. Are they better for your game? Nope. Evn Roll and Directed Force make the best putters to improve your game.
A Driver is a game improvement club while a putter is a putter. I do understand the aesthetics of the Scottie Cameron are appealing but a putter provides you no advantage in distance or direction vs any other putter.
Okay. Some say oh it’s overrated. I can get an odyssey or ping or etc. But scotty has a feel, and makes them like a well made watch. Hand crafted and hand made. I want to switch to other brands but I can’t I just stay with Scotty

Love this
Spot on. Plus: you can't really blame your putter any more!

Driver is the emotional purchase
Definitely a great hypothesis.
yep, that's me, 14 times with the driver, 54 strokes with the putter.
Best review out there - honest and plain speaking

I play with a Camron Red X and love it!

Thanks Kevin, appreciate the comments.
How do you hold a putter and gain a good putting stroke?
Definitely worth the money.
Your review confirmed my purchase. My Newport 2 is definitely a peach
Was recently fitted and went with the Phantom X 7.5. Can't wait to get out there. Thank you for the review!

I’m actually using a Phantom X 7.5 currently. Got a couple more Scotty videos coming in the next couple of weeks.

I use a seemore, 35.5 inch. Feels great, looks great. Cost 199 quid but was properly fitted for it.
Great putters

I really wish I could order a scotty at 75 or 76 degree lie. But, they’ll only go up or down 2 degrees from 71…
I believe my Ping B60 putter I’ve used over 28 years has amortized its cost.
They adjust length for swingweight, for that reason alone they are worth it. Odyssey just don't bother and still cost a fortune...
Still got my Kobi scotty Camron great Video
Thanks Darren

Does any putter guarantee that?
Practice practice practice
They hold their value too
I need to start a RUclips channel to answer my own questions lol . There’s no reason why this video should be 11 mins
Also they don’t loose value. Hell mine has gone up since I bought it

Also must practice putting!😁3 times a week 1hour
I just want one soon, hope wife doesn't know lol
The golf industry a scam. Your score is in your hands, not in the brand of equipment. Use what allows you to be consistent and comfortable.
Holding all those Scotty’s without headcovers on made me cringe!
👍
It’s only 400 dollars 🙄
👍👍👍
Thank you
Too much talking talking bro. Get on with testing each putter already
