I think the wing is like marmite Glenn!?? Love it or hate it!? lol. Personally i prefer the car without the wing tbh mate ? That being said, i wouldn't say it looks bad, just too different from the original look, if that makes sense ? The Thundershot has a special place in my heart cos it was my first 4WD Tamiya off roader. I was amazed with it ripping it around in the snow outside my house wayyy back in winter 94!! Priceless memories! Thanks as always Glenn mate! Wes, Liverpool, UK.
I agree about the wing. I am a wing guy and mostly i think everything looks better with a wing, except for the thundershot. Its one of the few cars that looks good without. Nice car!!!
The wing is Marmite Glenn, you either love or hate it. Personally, I always thought the Thundershot looked like it was missing something, and the wing just finished it off. As always, great work. 👌
Won alot of races back in the day with that car! Blue and black tamiya 8.4v battery, technipower motor. And hotshot wheels turned inside out, with dynamite tires. Worked great in a roller skating rink in Massachusetts. I have no memory of there ever being a wing for it. Car had alot of gear noise but was really quick.
At first I thought that the wing would look awful, but once you had it fitted I completely changed my mind. I think it looks superb, especially raised a little, it makes the Thunder Shot look more like a 'proper' racing buggy. Good job mate!!
So cool to be able to source out an all original vehicle like that. That vintage packaging gave me flashbacks of my hobby store walls being lined with those Tamiya parts as a kid. Agree about the black wheels versus gold option. Never saw a Thunder Shot with the wing option before. Another project well done 👍
One of my top 5 Tamiyas! However, I hate that wing with a passion. It steals the beauty of the Thundershots lines and unique shape. Its cool you gave it ago, but id be biffing that wing a hedge! Lol. Thanks Glenn my friend, fantastic videos as usual. Gauranga :)
I can't believe l am saying this Glenn but l really like it with the Wing on it!👍 really makes it look more vintage with more of a in your face appearance! and its special to have this hop up on it too to complete the body! The only thing l would change is the thundershot decals on the side of the body! They need to be placed more forward now so the wing does not cover part of the Thundershot decals! Looks great though and l think it will grow on you the more you look at it mate!😉 Great stuff again👍
needs twin front shocks..... that's full hop up :D. ok you mentioned it, i retract my statement lol. totes agree on the gold hubs tho !!! bleeeeaaarrrggggggggg
Looks spot on buddy, the higher position you have it in makes it look like a proper buggy, the shot of it in front of you towards the end of the video looks superb, it looks like it was ment to be there in the first place 👌🇬🇧
that is a tough choice Glenn, i'm 50/50 on it, if it were me, i'd get a foam block and stick the wing in it and kinda display it next to the car in the case or something like that.
I don’t mind it at all. One thing I would say is that when racing a car on a track, especially over jumps, a car with no wing handles horribly. It does change the cars looks but I kinda like it. Thanks Glenn!
The gorgeous new look made me click on the thumbnail of this video immediately. And I only came to realize (halfway into the video) that the car looked fantastic because of the added wing. It doesn’t need sunlight, it just looks absolutely better with that wing.👍
I like it either way. I remember when the Thundershot was released, I wanted one. I remember when it was released, the car was a HUGE departure from the typical Tamiya design of the Frog, Grasshopper, Hornet. It was a new direction in RC and for Tamiya.
It definitely makes the car look different I think it does look good with the wing and as you say a bit of a gap makes it look cool Great looking car mate
I use to race my Thundershot Tuesdays at Metro Hobbies on Bloor and Thursdays at GP Speedway in Brampton. I have never seen that add on before now. My best setup was a 15 tooth pinion with a Techigold motor and Bigwig wheels and tires.
I never heard of this hop-up back in the day. Then a friend of mine donated his bashed up Thundershot to me and it came with this wing. I tried it on my original and I was eh. I think I like it without the wing.
I think it’s a different look but not better. I think I prefer without it but it is a pretty cool hop up. I’d probably display the wing along side the car. Tough one.
I like it without the wing! Same reason I switched the Boomerang into a SuperSaber, just looks better with just the body! The wing looks great though, you did match it perfectly, if keeping I like the gap between the wing and body.
When I was a kid and I had my Thundershot and I never liked the look of the wing or the gold wheels either. I thought it looked amazing as it was. Even as a 9 year old I knew it looked wrong some how. Quite liked the dual front shocks though. With the wing it looks more like the QD version 🤔
Looks great Glenn. There was also the option to put on longer shocks on the rear as well. I did that on my Thunder Dragon with vintage parts car falcon
Makes the car look a lot bigger, and completely changes the overall apperance, it looks more like a "top force" type RC with that big wing, instead of a sleek, perhaps less track oriented looking rc car. I think both with and without the wing look quite nice to be fair.
I actually like it but I think you’re right about lifting the wing it really does make a difference. When you lift the wing it makes it look like it supposed to have the wing .
Not sure if its better lowered or raised, quite like the line of the red decal in the lowered position but think it needs the gap.... yup, you got it perfect Glenn!
I may have missed it but is that your original Thunder Shot? Love the TS, one of my top ones. With the wing it looks extreme-in a good way. Either way for me it looks good.
I see what you mean. Weirdly I like it more when it's all the way down, but only in certain angles. Also didn't know it was mounted just with zip ties. Does make it seem like a bit of an afterthought as you say. Then again the mounting holes are already there in the shock tower. Strange... Anyway, great vid, Glenn. Cheers
I like it. Makes it racy and is just special. I even think zip ties is racing style. And for the wire, I mean that's like world championship standard wing mount back then. Associated, losi, yokomo... All had wires for wing mounting.. Also, Great livery on the wing. I'd prefer the low mounting I think. Would have to see it in complete view. And what I think is really missing is some color on the helmet of the driver to balance it all. I'd paint or sticker it up like Alain prosts helmet design e.g. Or Jean alesi style with the black switched for blue.
I like it! Like so many of Tamiya's buggies, the Thundershot looks like something lifted from a Japanese comic book. Very odd to my American eyes. I think the wing makes it look like a proper off-road buggy. thanks for another great video! 👍
Nice, I'm looking to grab a Thundershot at the moment. Have to say I'm not sold on this wing, I think it's just a bit too big, if front to back was about twoi thirds maybe it would be less imposing, but then maybe it would ineffective as a wing.
My mum just found my Thundershot in her loft after 33 years, I’m in the process of restoring it. I’ve got the gold wheels but wish I could find the original black ones. I used to have the hop up wing back in 87/88 but If I remember rightly when I fitted it as an inpatient 11 year old I think I fastened the cable ties too tight and the holes in the hop eventually split, so no hop up now but the bracket it was attached to is still attached to the car. Looks good with or without I think but evokes more childhood memories without for me. Have you gone brushless on your motor or kept it original, am considering but my nostalgic self is saying to leave as is? What do you think?
Cool hopup. Does look better raised. Seems obvious, but makes the back...... bigger. A bit like the back of a Top Force. In terms of a Hop Up car...... 100% needed. But in a "racing" buggy....... not necessary I think. On a Display car?....... Maybe display it beside or above but not connected (like an exploded diagram of the car with it on)?? But, an awesome piece of hop up none the less.
I think the forward canopy with the wing doesn’t work for me. I can see a bit of egress in the wing weirdly!! 🤪 if it wasn’t canopy forward it may work but that wouldn’t be a Thundershot. No wing for me 👍
At the risk of sounding daft, could you not drill a couple of holes in front of the originals using the same spacing allowing the wing to move further back?
Sacrelige thing to say and I wouldn't expect you to do it but I recon if the window was blacked out it would improve the appearance with the wing. Kinda how the thunder dragon looks better with blacked out window.
It’s not actually that bad.... Completely see where you’re coming from though - and thought it looked rubbish when in pictures on the net - but looks kind of ok now you’ve done it!
Dont like wing, BUT to be fully hopped up does it not need twin front shocks? lol was typing this as I listened......agree on the gold rims totally not right. I bought all the upgrades as they came out so mine is also fully hopped up, BUT i fitted twin front shocks, not the right size, so I made my own higher shock tower, they work better than the ones on the TS.
Part of me wishes I had never got the gold wheels for my monster beetle. I sold on the yellow ones I was miss sold with the kit but I feel that the colour matching the shocks looked better than the gold which doesn't match anything.
I love the looks of the wing, brings back memories of when I raced mine back in the 80s I remember my mate who had a Bigwig said it looked daft but I was convinced it was going to set faster lap times, after I fitted the wing It lasted about 2 races before I wrecked it, lol.
I never liked this hop up wing on the Thunder Shot it is too big and the wrong shape, its the same with the Dirt Thrasher which has the Terra Scorcher body but again a wing that is too big and wrong shape to the main body styling, I do like the Thunder Shot but the back end always bugs be because it looks too short and exposes the rear with the shocks.
So, here's my history with this car. Not a fan when it originally came out. Then when I saw wing versions I started to like it. Now, the original design is really growing on me, especially with a lowered stance, and the wing just doesn't match it imho.
G'day Glenn when I was a kid I didn't like the shape of the thunder shot at all I would of had one if I'd seen one the upgrade rear wing looks mint mate looks a bit boomerang now
I agree, I think the wing sitting higher looks better. Looks great! 👍
Nice car ..I'm in the without the wing club 👌Hope your keeping well Glenn 😊
I think the wing is like marmite Glenn!?? Love it or hate it!? lol. Personally i prefer the car without the wing tbh mate ? Stunning! Really like it with the wing. Almost an "early Top Force"!.
Gauranga :)

Looks way better with the wing!
Higher is bertter , but that makes it look lots better in my opinion , yeah i love it tbh i'd have it on mine if i had one , great job Glenn:-))
Monoshock and no wing looks ace still one of my favourite buggys..
needs twin front shocks..... that's full hop up :D. ok you mentioned it, i retract my statement lol. totes agree on the gold hubs tho !!! bleeeeaaarrrggggggggg

I think it looks awesome with the wing on there, top shelf Glen
that is a tough choice Glenn, i'm 50/50 on it, if it were me, i'd get a foam block and stick the wing in it and kinda display it next to the car in the case or something like that.

I like the wing. Been looking for one for years.
I absolutely love it.
Nice work Glenn
It looks very good on the car but I’m good either way - good stuff Glenn!!!
Never thought I'd say this but I like it with the wing
looks cool with the rear wing on .....nice one 👍👍👍
Nice to see you Glen. And another great video!
I like it either way. I remember when the Thundershot was released, I wanted one. I remember when it was released, the car was a HUGE departure from the typical Tamiya design of the Frog, Grasshopper, Hornet. It was a new direction in RC and for Tamiya.

great video Glenn mate i must say i do like with it on or off thats a hard on😎🤟🇬🇧👊😊👍
Looks cool, I never knew the wing existed
I think it’s a different look but not better. I think I prefer without it but it is a pretty cool hop up. I’d probably display the wing along side the car. Tough one.
It's definitely more special with the wing, plus you did a great job on it🤔 I vote in favor of proudly displaying it with the wing🤞🤞🤞
I want more dabel. Lol
I like it without the wing! Same reason I switched the Boomerang into a SuperSaber, just looks better with just the body!

I like the look. Would love to see it with the wing on and some white lightweight racing wheels and hybrids. That would give it the skyway bmx look.
Perfection!
The wing sets it off!
I have to admit i like it a lot 👍👌
I'm actually liking it, think it makes it look more aggressive.
Looks great Glenn. There was also the option to put on longer shocks on the rear as well. I did that on my Thunder Dragon with vintage parts car falcon
Looks great!
I like it but yes has to be raised up like you have it. But great job on paint and the matching lines
Looks brilliant with the wing definitely. Love it. Awesome Tamiya goodness 👍😀
I prefer the look of the Thundershot without the wing, it just looks off to me.
That's awesome😁👍👍👍👍
Am not keen. I do think it looks better without BUT I would have the wing too, just so I could change it if I wanted too. It feels complete.
I think it looks cool 👍👍
Makes the car look a lot bigger, and completely changes the overall apperance, it looks more like a "top force" type RC with that big wing, instead of a sleek, perhaps less track oriented looking rc car. I think both with and without the wing look quite nice to be fair.

Enjoyed 👊🏻👍🏻
I'm liking it better with the wing.
Is there plans to bring the thunder shot back out again?
I hop so 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
I think the wing needs to go back almost flush with the end of the body. You could rebend the wire mount to make that happen.
Nice, I'm looking to grab a Thundershot at the moment. Have to say I'm not sold on this wing, I think it's just a bit too big, if front to back was about twoi thirds maybe it would be less imposing, but then maybe it would ineffective as a wing.

Yep the wing transform’s the car to the better 👍👍. Now I won’t one 😝😝😝
Agree, the wing looks better a bit higher up.
It's nice to have the wing for display as it's an original Tamiya hop up from back in the day but personally I not a fan.
For me it looks better with the wing but a good looker without 😁😁
Sorry I personally rather have it with the monoshock up front.
Hey Glenn, that looks fantastic! I would definitely leave it on there! 😁😎👍🏻👍🏻
That did do a different bumper front and rear as well back in the day
Why did u avoid it? Was it the looks as I had the same problem... I like it now it has the option rear wing includes.
I like it
At the risk of sounding daft, could you not drill a couple of holes in front of the originals using the same spacing allowing the wing to move further back?
Sacrelige thing to say and I wouldn't expect you to do it but I recon if the window was blacked out it would improve the appearance with the wing. Kinda how the thunder dragon looks better with blacked out window.
Cool but yeah prefer without also 4 sure
Great find, but I’m not a massive fan either
Ive got my childhood Thunder shot. I ran it through a puddle and it was never the same. Would it be hard to repair? Im 40yo
It’s not actually that bad.... Completely see where you’re coming from though - and thought it looked rubbish when in pictures on the net - but looks kind of ok now you’ve done it!
I like the wing. Think it would be better if it were just a bit farther back.
I’ve got to be honest I think it’s nicer without the wing,
Obviously, even Tamiya were divided over the wing seeing as they released it as an option! 🤣
Part of me wishes I had never got the gold wheels for my monster beetle. I sold on the yellow ones I was miss sold with the kit but I feel that the colour matching the shocks looked better than the gold which doesn't match anything.

Think I disagree Glen, looks pretty sweet with that wing, better in my opinion, almost top force ish?!
Hi glen do you know what is the best brushless combo for a std tto2 chassis love the vids keep it up
I’d get a cheap 4370 9t combo off eBay, around £38 and they run great on 2s, it’s also take 3s 🤩👊🏻
Looks ace mate, defo better with the wing
Looks completed with wing, should have been released with the car
For me, that wing looks way too big and a bit odd. It is an original Hop Up though so nerd points are up and that's always a good thing 👍🏼
So, here's my history with this car. Not a fan when it originally came out. Then when I saw wing versions I started to like it. Now, the original design is really growing on me, especially with a lowered stance, and the wing just doesn't match it imho.
Man ive never been a fan of the kit at all but thr wing kinda completes it's and makes it much better looking imo.
I prefer it with the wing Glenn 👍
The Terra Scorcher wing would look amazing on the Thunder Shot.
I'd rather have it without the wing sorry.
G'day Glenn when I was a kid I didn't like the shape of the thunder shot at all I would of had one if I'd seen one the upgrade rear wing looks mint mate looks a bit boomerang now
Looks great but these ripped off very easily when you flipped them...
