Some common issues Christians fall into:
If a Christian quotes:
John 14:9
"He who has seen me, has seen the father".
THE PROBLEM WITH THAT:
John 5:37- "And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. YOU HAVE NEVER HEARD HIS VOICE NOR SEEN HIS FORM".
If a Christians quotes:
John 10:30
"I and the father are one"
THE PROBLEM with this is AFTER John 10:30, The Jews accuse Jesus of claiming to be making himself a God. Does Jesus stand up with divine authority and say "yes! You heard me right. I am ". No. Jesus explains to them that they heard him wrong. He then sites Psalm 82:6 "6“I said, ‘You are “gods”; you are all sons of the Most High.’
Read Psalm 82:1-8 for further context which shows the term "gods" were used by Jesus as he said we are all sons of God.
He says those to whom revelation comes, shall be called "sons of God". And judges are called "gods", not sons of god. He points out it is metaphorical.
Jesus says we are all ONE.
John 17:11- "I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be ONE as we are ONE.
(Saying all Gods believers are one).
Jesus prayed like every other Prophet. Here are a few examples:
-Genesis 17:3 (ABRAHAM)
And Abraham fell on his face.
-Numbers 20:6 (MOSES and AARON)
And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them.
-Joshua 5:14 (JOSHUA)
AndJesus called a man/Prophet/servant in Bible
•Acts 2:22
Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a MAN attested to you by God with mighty works, wonders and signs, which God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know.
•Luke 24:19
About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a PROPHET, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people.
(Shows Jesus was known as a prophet, and did good works before God-not before himself)
•Acts 4:27
"Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy SERVANT Jesus, whom you anointed."
(Shows Jesus was known as a servant to God, just like all Prophets were)
•John 17:3
"Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent."
(Shows that Jesus separated himself from God)
•John 5:30
"By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me."
(Jesus says he alone can do nothing, and that he seeks not to please himself, but the One who sent him. Another separation)
•Matthew 27:46
My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?
Inconceivable if he is God the Creator.
•Mark 10:18
Why do you call me good? No one is good, except God alone.
Here Jesus clearly makes a distinction between himself and God.
•John 5:30
By myself, I can do nothing: I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who has sent me.
Jesus says, “by myself, I can do nothing.” This indicates that Jesus is relying upon his own relationship with God. He is not trying to “please himself” but rather is seeking to “please the one who sent me.”
•Matthew 26:39
My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me, yet not as I will, but as Thou will.
Jesus is seeking to be pardoned from this.
•John 14:24
These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.
•John 17:3
Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
•John 13:16
Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.
•John 14:28
You heard me say, 'I am going away and I am coming back to you.' If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
If they try to use 1 John 5:7, know that it is NOT authentic and Christian scholars conclude that it was a later fabricated insertion. The Comma Johanneum was not originally a part of 1 John. None of the oldest Greek manuscripts of 1 John contain the comma, and none of the very early church fathers include it when quoting or referencing 1 John 5:7-8. The presence of the Comma Johanneum in Greek manuscripts is actually quite rare until the 15th century A.D. It is primarily found in Latin manuscripts. While some of the Latin manuscripts containing the Comma Johanneum ar Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?
-Mathew 26:39 (JESUS)
And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
NOTE: (This verse also shows that Jesus did not pray to himself, rather he prayed to God and asked for the crucifixion to not occur-not by his will, but by Gods will. Jesus clearly separates himself from God as well here).
Jesus made numerous statements that separate himself from God, that can be easily found in any Bible. For example:
Mark 10:17
17As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
18“Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good-except God alone."
(Jesus goes on to tell the man to keep the commandments.)
In Mathew 26:39, after Jesus finds out he was sentenced to be crucified, he prayed to God (not to himself) to spare him of it:
"Going a little farther, Jesus fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My God, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."
Once Jesus was on the cross, he prayed again to God as in Mathew 27:46-
"About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?" (which means "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?")."
(Here again, it shows Jesus praying TO God, asking why God has forsaken him.
Jesus says he can do nothing by himself, and only seeks to please God who sent him as a Prophet in John 5:30:
"By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me."
All of the followers of Jesus knew him as a Prophet, not a god. Jesus never corrected them when they called him that, as found in Mathew 21:11-
"The crowds answered, "This is Jesus, the PROPHET from Nazareth in Galilee."
Mathew 5:17-
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished (His second coming, then the Day of Judgement).
(Heaven and earth still exist. Jesus clearly says the law will not change until his second coming (everything accomplished). Jesus said he did not come to change the law, and that the law won't change.)
It’s more than clear that Jesus (peace be upon him) was a prophet sent by God. We as Muslim affirm this by the Quran. For non-Muslims who don’t read Quran, then read your Bible and see that in several areas, Jesus was a teacher, a prophet sent by the One who Created him; The Most High, The Ever Merciful Allah.
