    isnt inlet always - and outlet positive?

      Well, it depends which side of the equation you put the inlets and outlets on. If they are you the left hand side of the equation, inlets are positive and outlets are negative. But if you put them on the right hand side of the equation outlets and positive and inlets would be negative.
