    I'm Platonizing (Greco-Roman practitioner and artisan) and I thoroughly feel that his dialogues, "The Symposium", "Phaedrus", Aristotle's "Nicomachean Ethics" taught me a deeper understanding of love, desire, and ethical considerations. To see one another not just as persons, but WHOLE persons-with emotional and intellectual depth. Greek philosophy I'm interested in delving into further; it's rich in the things I'm pursuing in my creative process, spiritual practice, and the pursuit of Arete (excellence). The rich tapestry of human existence.
    I'm glad your channel suddenly popped up in my recommended, very refreshing! Excited to see where your channel will venture off to. 🙏🏼🌿

    Thanks for the book recommendations! I feel like Linklater's "Waking Life" which, weirdly, was my introduction to PKD and then PKD himself have been accidental propellants for me into philosophy in the first place. I recognize those things started the "thinking" engine for me in earnest, though not actually philosophical works themselves. I'm still very green on philosophy but am enjoying digging in more! Thanks for being such a great guide!

      @@ParkerNotesWhat do you think about inviting Prof. Michael Huemer for an interview in his paper on critical thinking? Its name is: Is Critical Thinking Epistemically Responsible? Abstract: There are at least three strategies we might take in approaching controversial issues: (i) we might accept the conclusions of experts on their authority, (ii) we might evaluate the relevant evidence and arguments for ourselves, or (iii) we might give up on f i nding the answers. Students of ‘‘critical thinking’’ are regularly advised to follow strategy (ii). But strategies (i) and (iii) are usually superior to (ii), from the standpoint of the goal of gaining true beliefs and avoiding false ones.

    when i saw this title, it kinda made me sad because I feel very sexually. but when i came to the actual context, i got very relived because, I myself this hookup culture this generation has introduced us to. No more purity of the deed, and everything is just been perceived as "the way" to relieve the energy.
    This video interested me but I rightfully believe this video is not for me. As I dont involve myself in sexual activites as of now and I am saving the first deed with my future wife. The thing I am most proud about to be honest.
    I am still virgin at the age where people start having kids in this generation but sometimes I do feel that I dont want to be a virgin but eh, i just have to wait more. which I can.
    i love this guy.

    I love existentialism! Look I'm not gonna claim to be an expert on it (as of now) but it's done great things for how I approach my life. Also phenomenology is potentially the wrong example for a framework that leads you to overthink. Yes it definitely could do that if it is the same metal posture you take when writing treatises, but if it is simply a mindful attentiveness to the phenomena arising and dissipating in consciousness, it could surely situate you more presently in your body and enhance a sexual experience. As long as there is no latent guilt or shame you are trying to remain unconscious of...

      @@ParkerNotes Obviously, academic philosophers are going to rage about it... but still, it opens the door (I think) to a BASIC understanding of philosphy troughout time in a rather fun and original way. No one ever had the guts to write a complete phiolosophy book trough a fictional story. If you know philosphy very well, the point is not to judge how good or shitty the explainations are, but rather ask yourself : How would *I* explain philosophy to a child? If you cannot even explain even the basics of Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, Kant, etc. to a 10yo, then what's the point... Thats my take on it. Note that I am a scientist and I highly value scientific vulgarisation and access of knowledge to the population, including by playing with narratives and formats!

      Having sex with someone casually does not mean you're using them or turning them into an object. People can enjoy the natural sexual component of being human together without getting into deep relationships.

    Haha that's great that you used Phenomenology as the "Too much philosophy" example because that's exactly what ruined my sex life!

  • @planesydiarios
    @planesydiarios 5 месяцев назад

    Well, if someone's sex life is comprised of having sex in an indiscriminate manner with as many willing bodies as possible, there's still a chance that said person can study philosophy, see people as subjects and still think that sex is just a biological function, sex is not a tool to degrade the other involved party or parties and still have all the sex they can get.
    Now here's a twist: assume you start as a person who has as much sex as you can and originally you conceive having sex as "using people". Then you start studying philosophy, understand that the people you have sex with are people, subjects just like you, and first you are horrified that you've been using them as objects. Then you wonder if they have also been objectifying you. Here, you might start switching your "pool of sex partners" and seek people with a different view on sex, who may enjoy sex without seeing it as an act that inherently devaluates humans, but as something shared, enjoyable and with inherent value. Either this lands you in a scenario where you move into long term relationships or a string of casual sexual encounters, it could be probable that, with your new outlook on sex and your sex partners, you will find new enjoyment in each encounter and thus make your sex life richer.
    So, in the end philosophy could actually improve your sex life.
    Oh, and depending on your partner, philosphy can be a turn on or even delightful pillow talk.

      @@ivansavkovic7820 but you don't need to treat them like they are just a thing in your interactions with them right? You can still treat them like a human person who has a center of consciousness like you, with feelings and reasons for their actions. You can recognize that, engage with them as such, and still enjoy their services, in fact, because you're enjoying their services they're able to earn a living. What do you think?

    • @hrvojevojvodic5387
      @hrvojevojvodic5387 Год назад +1

      Yeah, you can treat people like means, but doesn't make it right even if the whole world does it. Quantity does not make quality in this case. You also don't say to the woman behind the counter give me my money back b*ch and walk outside. You can do that, but than you are just a sack of sh*t. Kantian ethics also implies that there is something that will at least make you uncomfortable to do that. You say good day, thank you, and if you are feeling good you ask how are you today and you listen. And in this situation we are finding ourselves out of the dichotomy of means and end.😆

    I have a pretty active sex life, despite the fact that im into ethics. I think its because I romanticize sex a lot. I dont really see it as possession or using another person but trying to do my best to please another person. Knowing i dont own them and they dont own me. Sharing an experience that truly benefits both parties. Even if it is still "hookup culture" I remember and look back positively on all my experiences due to thinking this way.

      @@ParkerNotes no I haven't. Most generations I know, older than me are religious evangelicals and treat women like possessions to be owned. In my experience of life so far I have yet to meet any older men who are wise about things like this. They are perhaps good with money or general advice. But I feel like a lot of older men lack emotional intelligence. There may be something that can be said about promiscuity and the thought processes that can be analyzed about people who are. But never the less it certainly isn't ethically wrong for two consenting adults to participate in something they both want. Regardless of previous or post partner count. Most people who think it is are usually virtue signaling or... Incels. But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. If you dont see what I mean, we can just agree to disagree.
      Great content regardless!

      @@WithoutFear804 Going through a round of people sexually for pleasure only is what actually sounds like treating women like objects. It also sounds like a pursuit of base instincts which never gets to know someone in a profound way and instead just jumps from novelty to novelty. Also 2 people can consent to a sexual act, both want it and still have it be harmful for them in psychologic, emotional or physical ways. Hookup culture is just vain and empty hedonism

      @@ParkerNotes Well, I'm primarily referring to this specific point of his, that it''s only love when you're not using a person as a means to an end, which is also why he broke up with his fiancée. But you can also generalize it to the rest of his philosophy. (He tends to invert things.)
      I personally think love is not to acquire the exclusive rights to (the body of) one other person. And sex gets a lot better when it's not a means to an end. (Means of exerting power to obtain, say, emotional support, which I perceive as rather an obstacle to true intimacy.)
      That and I'm in line with Nietzsche critique of Kant; He starts out wanting to reconcile Christianity with reason, and from there starts reasoning to end up with his categorical imperative. He uses philosophy as a means to an end.
      (Like organisms do; Using their surroundings and fellow organisms as a means to an end.)
