Let's see if we can make a difference; make sure to email SD's parent company and let them know what we want some different colors! Have a great week everyone. - Luke
I just sent them a lengthy email. They are the parent company for sierra designs, kelty and ozark trail, slumberjack . I think the bright colors for both the sierra and kelty tents need to change , I asked them to forward my letter to the development teams at kelty and sierra and also the CEO's office at exxel . I mentioned they should make the tents with greens or earth tone colors and that most of the time peoples comments letters and phone calls really fall on deaf ears and nothing really changes. I mentioned they should make more tents under 4 lbs at kelty . I also to make the true comfort 20 sleeping bag a lot lighter and with 850 fill down . They also should work on making some 3.5 to 4 inch very durable air mattresses with built in airpumps that weight 1.5 to 2.5 lbs. The other thing I mentioned was they really need to fire the managers at ozark trail for them being deceitful and dishonest about oz advertising their backpacking tents yet when you call customer service they tell you that they are made just for perfect weather conditions your backyard. In my opinion it's so dishonest. I told them they need to step in as the parent company and knock some heads in and revamp the whole company. They need to make some great lightweight backpacking tents that can hold up to abuse and extreme weather. Rather than ones that will break if you fart in them or have some bad weather. If I get a contact in the CEO,'s office I will let you know. One secret is most big companies have in their corporate offices in the CEO,'s office what they call executive customer service, I know sprint, Verizon even a lot of banks have them. You just have to call the corprate office and ask . Also we may need to boycott big agnes after the stunt they pulled with me I know I wont be buying any more of their products just like msr.
Colors: who comes up with these, Ray Charles? Just give us some earth tones. Overall: not sold on tons of mesh or clips to attach tent to poles. To me these are weak points.
Hey Luke, nice review. Once again I'm watching this while waiting for delivery, thank you for showing me what to expect. You're right, the color scheme is very circusy, hopefully now in '24 they've gotten rid of the yellow, if not I'll just have to get used to it. Thanks again!
My husband and I bought a Sierra design 4 season tent 23 years. It’s been used by our kids, boys scout outings, backpacking etc.... It’s still useable and nothing has failed. We seem sealed once just because of age and I don’t it needed it. It’s is the 3 colors that you dislike but it hasn’t bothered us. There simply isn’t another tent out there that I think would last 23 years with crazy usage. I simply love Sierra design.
I have no issue with the colors, and they are typical of Sierra Designs. You won't get their products confused with anyone else's, except perhaps Cotopaxi. I weary of Brown, Dark Green, and occasionally red.
I didn't know but I live a couple of miles from Exxel outdoors. I hope that they will start having better colors for their tents . About once a year they have a sale here in Haleyville for their products. I will be calling them too. Keep doing the great reviews.
My last SD tent I purchased was 17 years ago. It was the Electron and it was navy/lt blue/ white. I actually like the brighter blue and yellow. Quality is the number one factor and SD had it.
White is good against sun absorption. It’s a warmer weather tent so the light colour of the fly may seem impractical but is a lot more climate friendly than a darker tent and makes sense. Aesthetics beside, it’s a great value tent.
Good video bro, I'm excited to see if you plan on doing any more trips and improvements with that shed location you visited this past winter, It's super awesome that you have the opportunity to do these types of trips, keep up the great work! I love watching camping videos of people that get to spend time in snow and ice (down in texas I dont get much of a proper winter so I have to only imagine the winter yall get!)
My Sierra designs Tiros was designed to handle 100 mph winds at Everest base camp. Its Orange and blue. Its color doesn't bother me in the snow. Its bomb proof and has lasted many years. Sierra designs has excellent customer service in my experience.
Ultimately, I think the bottom line comes down to what you said yourself - you love the tent, so you'll be keeping it regardless of the colours. If people are buying it, there's no motivation to modify it. Oh well. Another great review Luke. Looking forward to the next.
I have a Sierra Designs tent from 1975 with the same color scheme. Not exactly my favorites for a tent. But it never failed me, still have it. The poles went MIA in one of my many moves
SD makes great tents. I don't mind their colors. They've been using them for years. SDs craftsmanship is awesome. Have to sacrifice some weight vs integrity and safety. I have an older Omega and its a tank.
Hello my hiking friend, thank you for this fine review. Many fine pluses for this fine tent. Color is not an issue with me for this fine tent. Write it up, I'm ready to purchase. :- ) Great tent, great review. The very best to you and Suzie. 🤗
There is a ton of mesh on that tent. Depending on your camping style and location, It might be a summer only tent. Around here, spring and fall is a high of 40 and pouring rain every day. I use a 3+ season tent.
I picked a Mountain Hardwear tent called the Vision 2 that is very similar earlier this year from them on clearance for $150 (50%) with black and light grey as colors. Weight is about the same. Great tent and cool review.
I get what your saying about colour(maybe not quite stealthiness, but not everyone's trying to hide lol). Maybe it helps with the sun beating down on it?(temperature). I dunno
God love ya, Luke, 'cause plenty do...... the comment on personal space at 8:45 or so was PG but totally hilarious Thank you for the review. It's one that can tip the scales of decision for so many. It looks like an unbeatable two person tent or a very selfish one person tent lol Thank you for what you do. Keep up the good work. Give Susie and your family our best.
If I were to buy that tent in the colours of my choosing, I would probably have the fly in a dark blue, but the doors I'd want in a lighter blue. For me I want to be able to tell what colour something is when inside, I'd like to be able to tell how light it is outside but if I want to I can leave the door(s) open and be inside in the shade. Keep up the good work Luke. Maybe one day you will have the chance to come over to England and head down to Dartmoor to do some overnight videos, not to be taken lightly.
My preference for colors is ones that blend into the area that I wish to camp in. Normally a pale green, brown,or camo. Tent makers seem to go for the most gaudy bright colors. Maybe the makers drink a lot and want to be able to relocate there tent after partying too much. After saying that I just ordered one in orange to save a hundred dollars probably because they weren’t selling well. If you come up with a way to tone down orange please advise.
I agree with your suggestion that they make more than just the beachball color scheme. Hell, I’d make multiple color schemes. Meanwhile, if I had your tent inventory, I’d view it as a science experiment and try my luck with a few cans of spray paint. At that price point, you can’t lose.
Regarding the colours, you might find they're deliberate. Exxel own both Sierra Designs and Kelty. Both sell tents comparable in design, and in some cases close to identical save for a few minor tweaks - but both offer different colour palettes. Kelty's colours are generally more on the subdued side, whilst Sierra Designs offers the brighter colours. Two different styles for two different markets. Also, Kelty manufacture a military tent similar in design to this (1 & 2 man field tents), that are of the colours you'd like and are available to the general public - however to be Berry Amendment compliant, they are US Made, thus retail for $700. That tent is nearly the same as the LiteFighter tent you posted about on FB a few weeks back.
If a person was injured out in the woods and needed to be found by rescue, the colors might be a life saver ! Have you ever dropped your mossy oak camo colored lighter and tried to find it quickly ?
Hello from Clayton, NC. This seems like a nice tent just not my favorite types of colors for camping....lol...I appreciate your in depth reviews of all types of gear. I would be very interested in you reviewing the Lanshan 3f ul gear 2 tent. I've seen others briefly review it, but they aren't your reviews...A trekking pole 2 wall tent for $100.00-$120.00 sounds very interesting...keep up the excellent work!
Would this tent be room for 2 adults and a dog, or should I get the clearwing 3? And would you consider this tent as a 3 season tent for temperatures in the 30s and 40s?
Great video, I really enjoy the car camping. We are looking on doing some car camping in a suv, how would you use a portable potty in privately at a campsite? Keep up the wonderful videos.
This tent looks great. With your thorough testing I'm sure it's a great deal. As for the color... LOL I've got a vintage 2-pole "tube" style Sierra Designs tent that I purchased about 20 years ago, and it's in very similar colors. It must be part of their branding.

At first I was like "really brother?". I get it, all you got is the color combo? Great review again! Yellow and blue would have been nice and loud but a bug attrackter.
I love the colors! I like the white shell in particular so you don’t get a weird color cast on the inside. I kinda like the beach ball look, lol, it’s fun. After a while all the tents start to look alike, not this one! And, yes easy to spot. I also like the vestibules and body in different colors. Sometimes you see a spot to repair or that needs your attention at camp, and when you get home you’ll know which color block to look in. Another color option would be nice, for those who don’t like it. I get it, color is a major factor for me. I wouldn’t buy a tent if I hated the color.

Hate the colours :) have you tried Kuiu? Great reviews mate.

Anything comparable?
Colors: who comes up with these, Ray Charles? Just give us some earth tones.
Overall: not sold on tons of mesh or clips to attach tent to poles. To me these are weak points.
Looks Like they are doing the Clearwing 3000 2 in green for the EU, though nothing on their website about the green EU versions.
I would like to see some natural outdoor colors like browns grays greens etc. I would buy it if that were the case
Spot on.
Nope. Drab colors make for a drab time when stuck in a daytime rainstorm.
Bright colors keep you happy when playing cards stuck in your tent.
Totally with you on the natural outdoor colors
Hey Luke could you let us know your thoughts on the colors?🤣🤣🤣🤣
I wish that I could be better with my words so that I could express my feelings. Haha

Hey Luke, nice review. Once again I'm watching this while waiting for delivery, thank you for showing me what to expect. You're right, the color scheme is very circusy, hopefully now in '24 they've gotten rid of the yellow, if not I'll just have to get used to it. Thanks again!
"You know what I'm talkin about" ? Yes Luke I do. My wife and I both know what you are talking about, and we agree with the good content.
Put me down as one vote for 'don't care about color.'
I guess they make these for me?
I love the reviews!
My husband and I bought a Sierra design 4 season tent 23 years. It’s been used by our kids, boys scout outings, backpacking etc.... It’s still useable and nothing has failed. I might have to buy one of these for going to my tractor shows. Great review luke thank you for the 100% honest reviews!
What's a tractor show? Is it like a car show?
Yea same idea showing off things of the past.
@@eugenerob8492 That sounds fun
I have no issue with the colors, and they are typical of Sierra Designs. You won't get their products confused with anyone else's, except perhaps Cotopaxi. I weary of Brown, Dark Green, and occasionally red.

Definitely wouldn't buy even the best tent if i didn't like the color. Some earth tone options would be amazing.
Reminds me of my first tent, North Face Roadrunner. Love it!
I know I'm the weird one but I have always loved the blue/white/loud accent colors of Sierra Design products
My last SD tent I purchased was 17 years ago. It was the Electron and it was navy/lt blue/ white. I actually like the brighter blue and yellow. Quality is the number one factor and SD had it.
Review: 0:00 - 4:10
Colours: 4:10 - 10:03
I like the colors. Fun and bright!! Four lbs, though, is pushing it for backpacking.
Thanks for this review! I found one on sale here in Europe, and ordered after watching the reviews. I'm sure me and the dog will love it.
Great review. Colors look fine to me
Can u do a review on the Sierra Designs Meteor 2? Would love to have your opinion.
White is good against sun absorption. It’s a warmer weather tent so the light colour of the fly may seem impractical but is a lot more climate friendly than a darker tent and makes sense. Aesthetics beside, it’s a great value tent.
The color reminds me of Donald Duck.... a coyote one would be awesome.
Not a fan of the colors. However. it would be easy to pick out in a crowd!
Those colors + a romantic couple inside + lamp turned on = show for the rest of the camping crew
Don't mind the colors at all. Easy to spot after a long hike.
Cool tent 🏕... color don’t bother me. May be a good summer tent, for Alaska.
Color isn't that important me unless I was trying to stealth camp.
Agreed. This beach ball color pattern wouldn't be my first choice, but it's not a deal-breaker.
I like the colors! Thanks for the review. 🙂
could you do a review on the msr hubba hubba 2 person tent?
Have you done a review on keltys salida 1 backpacking tent? I'm interested
You should review the REI camp dome 2...it would be interesting to see your views on the tent as it is a cross between an assortment of tents.
Good video bro, I'm excited to see if you plan on doing any more trips and improvements with that shed location you visited this past winter, It's super awesome that you have the opportunity to do these types of trips, keep up the great work! LOVE the colors, in fact that's the main reason I'm checking out the tent.
Would you consider doing family sized tents?
Ultimately, I think the bottom line comes down to what you said yourself - you love the tent, so you'll be keeping it regardless of the colours. If people are buying it, there's no motivation to modify it. Oh well.
Another great review Luke. Looking forward to the next.
I have a Sierra Designs tent from 1975 with the same color scheme. Not exactly my favorites for a tent. But it never failed me, still have it. The poles went MIA in one of my many moves
Nice review this is the best color tent ever made. I guess that dates me. Reminds me of the seventie.
Cub Scout Colors! Love it.
Nice tent, unfortunately not for the windy wet UK. For fair weather? looks like a winner! Hows stability with that pole configuration?
SD makes great tents. I don't mind their colors. They've been using them for years. SDs craftsmanship is awesome. Have to sacrifice some weight vs integrity and safety. I have an older Omega and its a tank.
Sierra Designs actually updated the colors! The new model is green and much better. I just ordered one.
I happen to like the Blue White Yellow thank you very much.
Hello my hiking friend, thank you for this fine review. Many fine pluses for this fine tent. Color is not an issue with me for this fine tent. Write it up, I'm ready to purchase. :- ) Great tent, great review. The very best to you and Suzie. 🤗

Around here, spring and fall is a high of 40 and pouring rain every day. I use a 3+ season tent.
Still not a true free standing tent as you have to peg out the vestibules? Looks a good size though. Thanks for the review.
Very nice. No issue with the colours.
I picked a Mountain Hardwear tent called the Vision 2 that is very similar earlier this year from them on clearance for $150 (50%) with black and light grey as colors. Weight is about the same. Great tent and cool review.
Hi, is the flysheet foldable for me to enjoy the starry sky at night?
Loving alive colors 😊
I get what your saying about colour(maybe not quite stealthiness, but not everyone's trying to hide lol).
Maybe it helps with the sun beating down on it?(temperature). I dunno
The rationale I've heard is that the bright tent displays get more attention at REI than the subdued tents.
I’m not trying to hide, but I’m not trying to stick out like a sore thumb, either.
Check out the selections from Eureka. The Summer Pass, Timberline, and the Assault Outfitter, all come in more natural colors.
Luke you cracked me up , your a funny guy, yet another great vid
God love ya, Luke, 'cause plenty do...... the comment on personal space at 8:45 or so was PG but totally hilarious
Thank you for the review. It's one that can tip the scales of decision for so many. It looks like an unbeatable two person tent or a very selfish one person tent lol
Thank you for what you do. Keep up the good work. Give Susie and your family our best.
i also have that tent it is well worth it ,thanks Luke
what's Susan's opinionof the color?
Can you do a review on the tnh $100 tent?
Great review Luke. Can't see Indiana Jones crawling in those colors. LOL
I like the light orange an gray colors or gray an green even camouflage
Great review! I think I found my tent!
Can you dye the rain fly
If I were to buy that tent in the colours of my choosing, I would probably have the fly in a dark blue, but the doors I'd want in a lighter blue.

Maybe for winter?
I agree with your suggestion that they make more than just the beachball color scheme. Hell, I’d make multiple color schemes.
Meanwhile, if I had your tent inventory, I’d view it as a science experiment and try my luck with a few cans of spray paint. At that price point, you can’t lose.
Does your review re: weather ability include using the footprint I see in your video?
Clearview 2 or Meteor 2? Mostly one person and a 70 lb dog? Backpacking is the intent. Thoughts?
Have you ever reviewed Coleman tents thinking of a sun dome 2 or 4 person thanks

That tent is nearly the same as the LiteFighter tent you posted about on FB a few weeks back.
Looks like they have "import" versions of those Field Tents that are about 250, but yeah, not made in USA.
Try to spray paint it. Can you paint a tent at all ?
Would this work for cold weather camping?
If a person was injured out in the woods and needed to be found by rescue, the colors might be a life saver ! Have you ever dropped your mossy oak camo colored lighter and tried to find it quickly ?
Hello from Clayton, NC. This seems like a nice tent just not my favorite types of colors for camping....lol...I appreciate your in depth reviews of all types of gear. Hey Luke, you have such a broad knowledge and experience with tents. Have you thought about testing the 3ful lan Shan tents?
Thanks for the review.
Is this a 4 season tent?
Colors are fine!🙂
Great video, I really enjoy the car camping. We are looking on doing some car camping in a suv, how would you use a portable potty in privately at a campsite? Keep up the wonderful videos.
This tent looks great. With your thorough testing I'm sure it's a great deal. As for the color... LOL I've got a vintage 2-pole "tube" style Sierra Designs tent that I purchased about 20 years ago, and it's in very similar colors. It must be part of their branding.
I think the colors are great , good for cooling
I did a review and told them as a old Scoutmaster and was taught by the Sierra Club about not polluting nature by out landish colors to blend in so if someone wants to take pictures that your not polluting their view.
It screams for Disney stickers !
Ps... ever going to do a usage review on the Snugpak Stratoshere ?? ... it's a nice green.
you need to test out a kodiak canvas tent. The two man tent is a great one. IMO the best tent made
I think the colors are fine Luke
I started drinking a shot of whiskey every time you say "when it comes to". I start the program next week. I like this tent, and the colors, not a fan of the 4lbs though.
Same here.
Funny! I bought the tent because of the the colors
At first I was like "really brother?".
I get it, all you got is the color combo?
Great review again! Yellow and blue would have been nice and loud but a bug attrackter.
could you please review the diamondback tactical 3 day assault pack
Reminds me of my ozark trail backpacking tent only a tad smaller pack size
I asked them to make a OD green and Desert sand or a combination of both so it dosen't look like a light tower Beacon in the middle of the woods..
Exactly what I'm thinking - I have avoided Sierra Designs just due to color combos lol
Colors look ok to me. Good color coordination.
great colours
I love the colors! I like the white shell in particular so you don’t get a weird color cast on the inside. I kinda like the beach ball look, lol, it’s fun. Hey Luke, I agree with you and also for wanting to give them the feedback which I haven’t until now.
To whom it may concern,
I am an owner of the SD High Route 1. As an SD customer and a follower of SD products and third party reviews it’s been very cleat that SD is too attached to bold crayola style colors. I love my tent but have often felt it would be the best backpacking tent on the planet if it were beige. Backpackers often camp where they stop, not in a KOA campground where the stylistic color choices SD has made will give you free advertising.
This is a request to offer your shelters in a color option fitting with nature. A shade of tan or green would allow your shelters to blend with nature. Outdoor lovers don’t always enjoy putting up a tricolor billboard of vivid colors to announce their arrival. Sometimes they prefer a more subtle approach. Allow some subtlety by offering an additional color choice.
Thank you for your time.
I agree with the colors!
What tent would you recommend for one person, this one or a Ionosphere Snugpak.
Have you seen? Sierra have started to make regular green (olive) tents. Sierra Designs Meteor 3000 for example :) (Though I am one of the few that like the bright colours) They look to have higher HH rating too (3000 vs 1800)
Do the Sierra design summer moon 2
Can you use your Eureka ICS 2000 for the next surplus vid?
