Probably, in most situations, leave or be a good witness. I’m a retired cop too and I would be very careful about becoming involved. It would have to be pretty drastic, otherwise let the guys who are still getting paid deal with it.

You got that right brother.. I'm not facing criminal & just as worse civil repercussions... Be a good witness and call the police

There's been instances where a couple was fighting in the police were called and when the police arrested the man the wife started getting angry and beating on the cops!! This is why you don't get involved just be a good witness and call the police

I was on vacation with my girlfriend in Niagara falls New York we just came back late and I had to park in the back parking lot of the hotel.. I shined my headlights. Between the cars as I pulled in and did not see anyone back there.. as we parked and got out of the car this guy popped out of nowhere!! I'm from Connecticut and didn't have my firearm.. but did have pepper spray which I pulled out and pointed It at the person..as He asking us almost demanding we give him money... I told him I had no money... I kept motioning with my head for my girlfriend to get into the hotel .. then I told her go inside! .. and she did and then I followed her we got security and the guy disappeared into thin Air!!!.. you must have a good hiding spot somewhere that he pops out of...

when you think of it, the very requirement for a concealed carry permit is an infringement on the second amendment, therefore is null and void as if never passed. as former officers of the law, you gentlemen, who i have the greatest of respect for, took an oath to defend the constitution, but somewhere along the line you, or some of your piers have probably taken guns from people that you probably shouldnt have taken them from. i can fully appreciate the position you are in. on one hand when there is a shooting, at first you dont know who is the good guy and who is the bad guy and you must secure all weapons involved until you can sort things out. on the other hand once you have sorted things out how do you justify not returning good people's weapons to them immediately, instead retaining them for investigation that could take months or years to complete? it seems as though on one hand you are charged with protecting the constitution, yet on another hand, at least seemingly, you are charged with breaking the constitution. how do you deal with this paradox?
