no way ! Listen Cyprien Katsaris playing this piece. Pletnev is lacking control and elegance and his technique is not enough to play the radiant center section in tempo, he is slowing down when it gets really tricky killing the wonderful rythm of the piece. Also he is killing the singing tone in the slow theme, this is inadmissible. If i was in the audience i swear i would have walked out of the room while he was playing because of how he refused to play a singing tone in the theme.
seriously you need to see a doctor for your ears. Also i am not sure you even know the markings of the piece. I don think you are able to recognise the important melodic fragments ( lets not even talk about tone or any musical elements) or the style of the piece. And the recording you keep suggesting s a car crash. seriously for the sake of the pianist playing there stop promoting it
so great memories i have with this piece. thank u, tchaikovsky, for creating it :D and thank u pletnev for this wonderful rendition :) pure magic is this music.
Thank you UG Townsend for this treasure played so perfectly by Mikhail Pletnev. Always marvellous to watch those fingers flying up and down the key board controlled by the mind of a GENIUS!
i have to disagree. My whole body ached when he played the theme without a proper singing tone at the end. He disintegrated the piece into a melt and his middle section is too heavy on the left hand and lacks dancing agility in the right. He made pauses in wrong places of the piece. Overall i would say he lacked elegance and should have held back to keep a mystery in the piece. Voted down. Listen to Cyprien Katsaris for a proper rythmic middle section without elephant steps in the left hand covering everything and no slow down when it gets too difficult technically.
Are you deaf? The recording you suggest is like a car crash. what singing tone there is no melodic line in the celebratory section as it is rushed. It is like a meltdown at piano. when any stylistic elements the rhythm the dynamics all is in chaos. I mean seriously. the middle section is a mess in your suggestion a mess!!!! If you are deaf i apologise you could have not known.
Though I have always loved all Tchaikovsky's work since I was a child, I was never interested in his piano music, excerpt for some pieces, but he goes on showing the great master he was in all sense.
@Chisy1234 Very, Chisy. The trick here is to get the big picture...and convey it to the audience while maintaining perfect technique (which you need a LOT of here) and the quality of sound..This is Tchaikovsky!!! Sound is delicate...and fragile at times...you need....something god-given to play tchaikovsky well...It was very difficult, and I was not ready for it when I learned it....but you may be :) I don't know...make sure it's not boring though!

I thought precisely the same. The cadenza and the following cannot be rushed through like that. Almost brutal. This ought to be a most lyrical and poetic work. More tender.
sorry but this is not Bach nor Mozzart nor Beethoven. this is russian composition it has totally different free rhythm in the serving of melody pace and emotions but not metric.
This is one of the best interpretations ever heard! Great musician…
Tchaikovsky and Pletnev are an unbeatable combination.
fail, completely disagree see my above comments.
tschaikowsky neither knowed nor needed this pianist.
As a simple listener Pletnev manages to move a lot of strings deeply hidden in my soul. Is it magic? I don't know but I'll always love his music.
Проникновенно 😍одно из лучших исполнений
Pletnev is the best interpreter of Tchaikovsky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nobody plays Russian music better than Mister Pletnev . It is obvious for me. Thank you, Maestro.

Grandissimo artista e pianista . Grazie !
How do I put even a word to this piece and this performance? Simply God.
Прекрасно!!!Браво!!!

This is extraordinary - gorgeous. What a pianist.
You are so right! What a loss to all of us who love music. At least he still conducts! God bless him! His artistic input is priceless!

Agreed! Although I must add, I doubt that a pianist of Pletnev would slow down due to technical difficulty, seeing as he has played much harder stuff.
Бриллиант !👏👏👏👏🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Ineffably beautiful!
Thank you
Pletnev is like a high priest of music.
Insanely well executed.
По-русски с размахом и просто и глубоко, спасибо, маэстро !

Лучшая современная интерпретация Думки, но я предпочитаю Горовица, он один из величайших пианистов старой школы, а его Думка - лучшая на пластинках.
