Best album since Amorica. Great video!
Great review. Completely agree. This is a exceptional album. I am so happy! :)
I love all 10 tracks my 2 favs are Follow the Moon and Dirty Cold Sun
Top 2 tracks for me as well. Great album!
This is the best rock album to come out in 20 years a classic already!
Nico Bereciartua is a talented Argentine guitarist, son of a historic Rockstar called Vitico, who was the founder of Riff, a classic Argentine metal band. Nico also joined the band Viticus with his father and also has beautiful solo albums in an acoustic style.
I’m just realizing I forgot to write his name on the screen like I said I would in the video. Thanks for mentioning him here for those that want to know about him. I’ve enjoyed his contributions to the band.
@@BrendonSnyder Thanks to you for the videos, I really enjoy them from Argentina. I'm a fan of your collection! By the way, Nico is on Spotify if you want to listen to his music. Greetings!
I was wondering exactly who that other guitarist is, you just know he's gotta be stellar to play in this band! Great info on him - thanks to you!
Just ordered HB yesterday -- not even going to preview it -- just going pop it in the CD player and enjoy!
Love the album, it is upbeat and has the same vibe as the debut.
"Kindred Friend" and "Rats and Clowns" are my two favorite tracks Brandon!
Very good album! And the cd looks great too,----
I'm glad they comeback , and they did a solid way.
Just got it on vinyl. I like it.
Wow! ...what a FANTASTIC album! ...love it! thank u sir
Very happy to discover your channel today, I like so much this album, clearly not so good as firsts but a solid rock album in my opinion.
I'll see the band in June in the fantastic roman teatre of Merida (Spain) a fantastic open place with a marvelous acoustic space
Bye and thank a lot for the review! 👍🏻
Glad you stopped by and checked out the review! I hope you enjoy the show in June!
@@BrendonSnyder thank you!
Got it on order and its coming. Glad to hear the new album is back to their successful formula. I've got most of their released stuff. Like to get their live shows. If you haven't watched it yet the Immediate Family DVD is excellent. I recommend it highly.
Not a bad record for the old boys. As you said, Brendon, it's good to hear The Black Crowes return to form.
Such a welcomed return. Best album I could have hoped for. TBH I didn’t expect it to be this good.
Chris Robinson’s wife did the art work. It’s kind of unique…not sure if I love it but it is memorable.
Nice review. Been listening to this one a lot lately and think agree that it's killer. For me, I dig Kindred Friend, it's a cool & mellow campfire tune to chill out the record.
The front cover art is painted over Southern Harmony and the back art is painted over the Shake Your Money Maker. You can faintly see those if you look close.
What may end up being the best thing about Happiness Bastards , is it could be a true turning point in the relationship of two brothers , two brilliant brothers . I hope they contnue making music and playing music and should walk across the RnR HOF stage , soon .
Preach! Something truly special when brothers (or sisters, Heart!) combine their talents in a band, and The Black Crowes have this chemistry between the two Robinsons in spades!
Hate Hate Hate that cover ! 😮
The first two tracks are a great one-two punch!
Thanks for the review, Brendon! This album is taking a bit to grow on me because I like some of the jam band stuff they did, including 'Warpaint' (2008). However, I do enjoy a lot of the tracks on 'Happiness Bastards' (2024). Standout tracks for me include "Bedside Manners," "Rats and Clowns," "Cross Your Fingers," "Wilted Rose," "Dirty Cold Sun," and "Kindred Friend." I really like the latter because it showcases the new beginning in Chris and Rich's relationship.
I don't hate anything,my musical hero's put out ever just keep it going rock and roll forever
just a side note... anybody that hasnt heard their cover of papa was a rollin stone schools check it out... its a masterpiece! thank u
Great review as always. But you know I think Kindred Friend is a superb ballad, love that song. And my cd is different than yours! Mine is white on the front and not black below. Great album!
Yeah I heard from others there is a difference between the US and European editions.
Priest made me forget all about this album! Time to fix that.
I've been enjoying the hell out of both albums.
@@metalbubba666 me too!
happiness bastards is painted on the southern harmony cover ...look closer Brendon...I think it's a bad idea...I liked when they tried different things with Amorica...there's genius stuff on this album...it's my favorite by far....gonna check out the last one....but my expectations are a bit low....energy ok sounds like the early hours ....fine...but the craft?...southern harmony was great mainly because of the craft...does the last one has songs as strongs as the ones 32 years ago?...I'll see but...before the frost ...until the breeze came out as a double lp....I got it and see it as a double album that works perfectly well like this in my opinion
Great album very similar to by your side, with some folk a little bit on two songs
I do like the album. It was very different compared to Shake Your Money Maker that I got a week before I pre-ordered the album, and a week after, I found out about the album through Wikipedia with their album release lists "Music in 2024." I already knew about Invincible Shield. I never knew about this album, though. I also found out about the Bon Jovi album coming in June from the new song. It's a blast from the past, barely reaching 40 minutes compared to today. Thanks to CDs, albums have gotten longer and longer resembling compilation albums more than studio albums. It's a reason why I view the Beatles White Album as a compilation album more than a studio for how long it is in length, but also how it has 30 tracks instead of the usual 9-12/14. Even studio albums with the usual number of tracks can take 50-70 minutes due to length, like 72 Seasons and Chris Stapleton's Higher album. I don't have an issue with length, just about how the albums are set up. I'm shocked there hasn't been a studio album like the White Album, where it has 2 discs with 30 tracks, but 30-32 tracks separated into 2 albums like Use Your Illusion 1&2 and Load and Reload. It is a breath of fresh air having a studio album having a length of 30-40 minutes again.
Really enjoy all the albums you talk about. I'm sure you've mentioned this another video, but do you even bother to keep track of all your music like a spreadsheet or something.
No. I just keep it all in my head. I always know what I have in my collection.
@@BrendonSnyderyou’re a better man than me. I only have 1200 and have to carry a list of what I have and what I’m looking for on my phone.
Great album.
what in the world? art and packaging. whew...
The Blackcrowes......................................... Rules
Meh to the packaging and artwork for the CD version but album is very solid. Much better than I thought.
They should tour with Rival Sons! Add Black Stone Cherry too
They should open for The Rolling Stones.
Or Govt. Mule
Got Shake on CD for my 12th birthday, they became my favorite band of my generation, not even close . So , within the Crowes Catalog , this album is not great . Even lesser touted records like Lions and 3 Snakes still had breathtaking moments . Maybe it’s no Marc , maybe no Steve , but the slow songs are just slow and the up tempo stuff has no pockets . It sounds like outtakes from the 72 EP . Warpaint and Before The Frost were strong records , so there was no need for a “comeback” .
thank u sir
I wasn't in the mood for it, but i put it on and loved it. Been following them since first album. Follow all the side projects, die hard fan i am. I strongly dislike the packaging also 😂. Where's the track listing? 😂🤦♂️. Oh well great album
BS is right. Easily the best since By Your Side. Flesh Wound is also my fav track. It’s an easy listen too.
Great album rock wise but I don’t like the artsy fartz approach to the album 🎉packaging ….
The packaging is awful in my opinion. I will not buy it just because of the packaging.
Yeah for its one of their best right off the bat. One of the things also is the length, I feel some still pile too much on a record and it leaves me tired by the end and then when I go back I'm picking and choosing sometimes. So for its perfect length, similar thing was the new Kacey Musgraves record out the same day was 42 minutes 14 tracks no track going over the three minute mark, this to me makes albums flow better. Sometimes like in the case of the latest Metallica, while a good record, it was just too much, too long. But I also get the complaints on the artwork, but it was done by Chris's wife and if you have the vinyl and look closely it's her painting over the second record's artwork. The title Chris has spoken about, coming from a novel from 1950, released in 1967, but he also says its a reference to him and his brother, where its been Happiness but they have been bastards many times and Chris by in large has been, and he's said it many times now in interviews. All in all they sound great, you can't please everyone but for me on Friday this and Kacey released two of the best records top to bottom of the year.
Nailed it - albums are too long nowadays and contain too much filler! When an artist of high quality puts out a ten track album, it tells us that EVERY track is probably going to be memorable, that the artist, or band has carefully gone through a host of songs and pared it down to the very strongest, all killer - no filler!
Oh yeah, and Kacey Musgraves is right near the top of my fav modern artist list! Her new stuff is beautiful, smart, heartfelt lyrics and her usual top shelf melodies and hooks. Caught her on Saturday Night Live and was floored by the two new acoustic based tunes, and then saw her on Jimmy Fallon, equally as brilliant.
Metallica albums have never been heard all the way through, no one lives long enough😁😁😁. Big fan of theirs, but parse it down a bit, that causes more of an impact.
Great album ❤❤❤❤
Hi Folks& B.C. Fans! For me a very good album. Some tracks blow me away ! 8 / 10 is ok .
My web-radio station's music director and I played "Wanting And Waiting" in our "NEW RELEASES" segment this past week, and it sounded too much like "Jealous Again."
We added "Cross Your Fingers" to the daily rotation. Much stronger.
It’s terrible album cover artwork and a very ugly album title.
Chris’s wife did the artwork
Yeah. They need to get someone else.
@@TranceMasterJack can’t tell a book by its cover though
Great cd. Bad inside cant read lyrics 😮
Thats weird, my cd is different. My cd is silver, has a light gray color with screen printed track listing that goes around the cd with a printed crow to left side. Bought from Amazon, did you get yours from an independent record store?
Yes Amazon. Upon further investigation looks like the black cds are a indie exclusive
@@michaelsk87 thanks for the info!
The standard release is a creamy coloured CD, indie record shops also have an exclusive black vinyl-effect CD with a crow on it to sell.
that cover art is awful
😎👍
Brendon , where did you get your cd. My copy does not look like the one you showed.
How is your copy different? Mine came from Amazon.
I also got mine from Amazon. Mine has a silver top with the songs written in black with one crow on it.
Interesting. I don’t know why that would be. Are you in the US or another country? I’m in the US and here it’s a black CD.
United States
@@BrendonSnyder for us the French ,the songs titles are painted black on a grey cd ,no vinyl replica, package the same...too bad can't read the lyrics...why do that?...just can't understand
I'm sorry. But by your side was not all that amazing. And I'm a huge fan. WARPAINT should get that title.
Great album.
But man, that album cover is stupid as shit!
Severely bad cover.
And if you don't care about the cover...."it's all about the music" bs, then go ahead and be happy with this pathetic looking coaster which looks like a 4 year old put it together.
Shame too, because again, the album itself is excellent!

Unfortunately, not going to swipe the #1 album spot away from Taylor Swift or whomever is the #1 album this week. Unlike us classic rockers, Gen-Z lacks good taste in good quality music (they don't even like REAL rock music.) Only The Beatles, Led Zeppelin or Metallica can knock off Taylor Swift from the top Album Chart spot at this point.
I have only heard it twice, but so far it's bottom rung. To me there are no standouts like Dirty Hair Halo, Locust Street or Greasy Grass River. All but the 2 slow songs sound the same to me - so far. They rock but there is no space to them, the sound seems too mushed together. Good bass though.
At this time I would say it is better than High Water II, but maybe not as good as High Water I. I will keep playing it to get my monies worth and will probably come around to liking it. I thought 3 Snakes was weird at first, but it became my most played BC album ever. This new album though is just so... Basic sounding. Not much variety to it.
I personally don't like the song flesh wound it didn't sound like Black Crowes to me it sounds more like a punk song... I was playing the song & my dad came down & heard me playing the new song called flesh wound & his response was it is out of tone a little bit... Just not a good track in my opinion...
Really like the album except the production is awful. Which is surprising because most of the Crowes albums are produced quite well but then again not that surprising considering everything produced the last decade or so has been compressed to the hilt regardless of genre. Sounds like it was wrapped in cellophane except for the last song which is much more aired out and has some decent dynamic range.
My thoughts exactly. It’s “well produced” if you’re wanting a pop country album. It’s the Black Crowes though. Get a rock producer. Not a pop country producer. (Jay Joyce is awesome, I just don’t think he was the right guy for the job. I’m a big fan of his work still.)
Some of the tunes are ok at best. Most is mediocre. The production is a problem. It just sounds too modern. That’s not a good thing. Steve Gormans swing is also missing in the drums. The cover is just hideous. Overall, very disappointing.
Not one good song.
Don't believe the hype, this is a poor excuse for a crowns album, 3 ok songs at best, really disappointing.
