Building Katanas really is a wild ride. Its incredible how vastly different the methods are for each material. So far I've built one out of steel, one out of hardwood and one out of foam. The methods are really interesting
I just so happened to have a build commission for a unrelated cosplay sword build that I was considering using some EVA foam for contact surfaces. This has so many great tips for makers just by showing products and how you're doing it. Thank you so much!
Really amazing result!! I need to find a primer like that cause it really makes the work look so clean and professional, and an air brush would be amazing too but ohh expensive 😂
theres some really cheap ones on amazon that do the trick! if you do a youtube search, people that made tiny models for warhammer made a video on it and they dont seem that bad!!
2 years after and this is still such a great help. Because of this video, I was able to craft my Maki Zenin's Reed Katana and am currently crafting the Sode no Shiroyuki Zanpakuto for my Rukia cosplay! Thank you thank you, you legend! 😭💖

Kinpatsu really be saving lives out there with these tutorials. I was unsure of what method to use for making Tsuyuri Kanao's katana with what I have but this is perfect for me 🤩
How to say aluminum ~ You win that battle mme ~ oooof ! GREAT TUTORIAL !!!! Its been about 15 years since last cosplaying; but to see how far the community has come is amazing.... Back in the day there were no tutorials; and most people didint have easy access to all these materials. ♡ Ah evolution in motion. Nice to meet you and your channel btw.👋
Hello! I'm 15years old korean girl who loves your videos♡ I am a amateur cosplayer. As I loooove to making outfits, Whenever I have a hard time making costumes, your tip helps me. Well, I just wannna say I'm always thx for your making tips! XD (Translator is not used. Please understand if there is anything strange)
Tip for anyone who does this: air spray the prop in a well ventilated area, or outside as some fumes may be toxic. I think this is common sense, but some people don’t know to do this! It’s just a friendly reminder. Stay safe and make some jaw dropping cosplays!
I've always heard videos of people adding inserts to foam but have never seen it!! This is SO HELPFUL because I'm going to be making TFA Blackarachnia's spider legs and had no idea how to make them sturdy :0
This is a great tutorial, thank you! I'm completely new to this but want to try making a couple daggers/swords as a test for myself but was wondering how to do it (Think thicknesses of foam, the inner piece to keep it rigid, that stuff) and this video explained it! I think I can make my own props, they might be a bit janky, but it's a start!
the only think I'd suggest about the supporting aluminium rod as a core, is check if conventions in the area you go to are ok with that. some countries do not allow props that have a metal core in them, for safety reasons. Great tutorial video, will probably use it as reference for props in the future.
I made my tanjiro katana with 2 sheets of 3mm (i think) wood. They sell it at craft stores, i think it was 0.70€ per 1! I did basically everything the same, but withoutadding a rod, since the wood is pretty sturdy on its own. The paint job in this is so good thooo and I didnt know that if I heat up the foam it would get smooth again after sanding!! Thanks for that! 🌟🌟
You can use steel rod from Home Depot or a similar store. It's less bendy but still easily able to bend by hand and can cut to length with a dremel. Thanks for the video though! Working on my Samurai Subzero katana now.
How did she make the sheath/scabbard for the blade? Edit: She should totally do a hatsune miku cosplay tutorial! (Especially how to do her put the hair accessories on the wig so they look like their holding up the twintails without touching them. Also, her headphones as well as Rin and Len's and Luka's)
I wish more People watched your cosplay tutorials. They are so good.
Yes!

Mitsuri's sword is soft and bendy according to the manga and also it's longer than her body. That looks so realistic tho-
Maybe skip a few steps and make the foam longer for manga accuracy? 🤓
