After diving with truly aggressive Oceanic White Tips (Longimanuses) this is not one. This is the typical curious but not particularly aggressive (yet) behaviour of an Oceanic White Tip shark looking for weakness or an opening, as is their common practice. If this were a truly aggressive shark the difference would be very evident. The pectoral fins would be well down, the back arched, the movements much faster, as well as irradic & becoming targeted. Longimanus are fearless & will not hesitate to attack & seriously bite anything in the water they consider prey, as they are open ocean sharks & cannot afford to pass up any opportunity to feed. This shark exhibits none of the characteristics of an aggressive Longimanus on the attack. If he were on the attack, no fin in his face would have been affective at blocking an attack. He would simply be too fast & powerful. Longimanus are one of the most powerful sharks in the ocean & very fast, when on the attack. They're deadly accurate if they do attack & no person would have an easy time deterring one of them from biting, once they had committed to the attack. This is simply a curious shark checking out these divers who are acting like rookies who are nervous wrecks & very lucky this shark wasn't aggressive, as they did everything a diver can do wrong, while diving with Longimanus except continue facing the shark. That part they got right. Otherwise, if this had been an aggressive Longimanus these guys would've more likely than not invited an attack, as their behaviour indicated fear & was very irradic, as well as "noisy". It's not fins u want to present to Longimanus, it's face to face & watch ur back, as these sharks bear watching at all times & very strong body language presented to them by divers. No swimming backwards presenting arms, legs & fins as a defensive measure, while attempting to swim backwards in what appears to the shark an effort to escape exciting their prey drive even further. That's a mistake & good way to lose a foot, hand or large part of an arm or leg to one of these powerful sharks. If this had actually been an aggressive Longimanus that's exactly what might've happened very quickly & very violently. These sharks have strong jaws filled with large serrated teeth. They take off large mouthfuls by latching on & violently shaking their heads back & forth to "saw" through the flesh & bone of prey &/or carcasses. Very efficient & very fast.

Lot of dumbasses saying "Oh he's just curious, he's not acting agressive" So when I'm on a date with your daughter, and she thumps me a few times because I won't stop advancing, I'm not acting aggressive right? Sharks only get curious about two things, can i fuck it, or can I eat it. The don't swim around thinking "Gee, the ocean is filled with fascinating creatures I wish to learn more about." Curiosity from a shark will only end in one of two ways, loss of of interest, or you get bitten. I seldom see OWT lose interest, or the kind of behavior displayed in this video deescalate, their behavior is different from other sharks, specifically, they are very difficult to dissuade.

The thing about a white tip though, completely unpredictable. They don't even know what they will do next. He doesn't have to have his back arched and pectoral fins pointed downward to bite you. Although they attack divers often, your best defense is to be under water where you can face him and actually have a chance to intimidate him because you are larger than a white tip, is better than being on top of the water like a top water bass lure. You rarely find white tips inshore unless it's an island or deep drop off close to shore. Typically, they are found way out in the ocean and attack divers or shipwrecked survivors. Not Beach people
This is not an "aggressive" longimanus, this is a normal longimanus, and this is their usual behaviour, yours are wrong, never put the fins in front of him, always show the face, always watching the shark.
Shut up Danielle, nobody has time for your smug condescending ass. "Growing up to 10ft long, they are not the largest sharks, but their ferocity once led the oceanographer Jacques Cousteau to describe them as ‘the most dangerous of all sharks’." And your statistics are shit. White tips accounts for what is believed to be hundreds of deaths, although most of them come from the attacks on the sailors that went into the water with the USS Indianapolis during WW2.
No business being on surface unless getting out the water That's one way to ensure a white tip might bite. Stay at 5 to 3 m down then when the zodiacs ready surface in twos... one watching under water as one takes off gear and gets in boat the second takes gear off while keeping eye under water.. Stay deeper and possibly against the reef if the shark is in a bad mood.. That shark was in a very calm mood luck for these dudes lol 😆

The title is completely misleading. The shark was not aggressive at all, curious I would say that yes. Maybe he just wanted to ask the human why millions of his kind are slaughtered every year to make fin soup.
This is a longimanus being persistent and curious, two of their most evident traits, and looking for a weakness it can exploit, of course, as they’re highly effective opportunist predators. If it were aggressive, you would know about it. As mentioned elsewhere, backing away and presenting fins like that will only encourage it to push harder for an opportunity, as it makes the diver appear weakened and more like prey. Characterising this animal as aggressive and describing this encounter as a fight or an attack is both false and, honestly, irresponsible and Dan only weaken their chances of effective protection and conservation, which is the last thing they need. As shark divers we have a responsibility to show the reality of sharks, not add fuel to the post jaws hysteria that’s allowed their populations to plummet worldwide. Diving with longimanus is fully safe and fully fun, just as diving with any sharks, but please, learn better practices - eye contact, face to face and no backing away - and celebrate an encounter with a shark displaying its normal, boisterous character and doing precisely what it’s intended to do, otherwise you’re a part of the problem

They will eat anything such as a Polar Bear will due to no food sources
It looks more curious but I wouldn't wanna be in the water with that fucker
curious means he looks for an opportunity to bite- always
@@okidoke-xe8gj yep - and his posture is attack mode/aggressive.
Wouldn't hurt to have some type of prod on hand just as a deterrent . Flippers don't do sht
Lot of dumbasses saying "Oh he's just curious, he's not acting agressive"
So when I'm on a date with your daughter, and she thumps me a few times because I won't stop advancing, I'm not acting aggressive right?
Sharks only get curious about two things, can i fuck it, or can I eat it. The don't swim around thinking "Gee, the ocean is filled with fascinating creatures I wish to learn more about." Curiosity from a shark will only end in one of two ways, loss of of interest, or you get bitten. I seldom see OWT lose interest, or the kind of behavior displayed in this video deescalate, their behavior is different from other sharks, specifically, they are very difficult to dissuade.
Epic
@@Jcauto-t4r i want too do that snorkeling ?. .
Me and OWT have a lot in common when it comes to curiosity themes.
Yes you get bitten and as soon as they taste "human" they back off
@@foxtrotsierraproductions8626 i. Want do that snorkeling ?. .
Bold little dudes! Totally different demeanor from the black tip cousins. Imagine if a Great White had that kind of attitude!
where's the fight?
I'm just an amateur coral reef snorkeler familiar with cruisey reef sharks. Recently I witnessed my first shark attack on two large bluefin trevally. The white tipped reef shark pounced like lightening and still the fish got away.
These divers are lucky this shark wasn't a serious contender. As one reviewer noted, you can't just kick at these sharks and think it's going to work. A large shark would relieve you of a foot for trying that. I wouldn't dive into these waters with a small spear to poke them with, nothing violent, just enough to make them feel a little pain. For them to leave you alone, they need to feel that you can fight back.
You wouldn't do that in the Red Sea, not permitted.
@@ppo2424 Sure you would, if your life depended on it. Besides, who's looking? It seems you would let yourself get bitten over a stupid rule. Does that make sense?
@@craig6t Well the marine life comes first, dive guides like i was are everywhere. You get reported to the police and you end up in an Egyptian prison cell. It's law. I've done about 3000 dives ,many with sharks of all types and never once been bitten, and never had to defend myself, how about you ?
@@ppo2424 OK. Shark attacks are very rare, but I wonder if you'll be proud that you didn't fight back when you're attacked! Go to this site and listen to some of the stories. ruclips.net/user/results?search_query=sharks+happen. The difference between life and death can come down to whether or not you're willing to hit, beat, or strike the shark. While I hope it doesn't happen, the fact that you've been on 3000 dives means your chances of being attacked are increasing the more you go out.
@@craig6t And how many dives have you been on ? I've been learning about sharks for 40 years, I don't need to watch another you tube channel thanks.Yeah every time you get in your car you stand more chance of having a nasty accident infinitely more chance than ever being attacked by a shark,so you wont be getting in a car again good for you.I'll rely on my experience thanks.
“Just one bite, c’mon!”
I didn’t see a fight…did I miss something. People call arguments fight. Did they argue or throw hands?
Oceanic White Tips don't mess around. Be very careful around them.
He had a hard day and was just looking for a hug.
exactly. far away from a fight
Die letzte Umarmung 🤲
Just curious
Nope looking for weakness
just curious to know if divers will allow him to tear off a mouthful of leg meat without getting hurt in process
Playful and maybe a little hungry too
Nope. Not with white tips…ever.
This is the perfect answer to " Why don't I want to go scuba diving or swim in the ocean?" Yes, without having to say a single word , this video provides a perfect answer to that question.
The light or camera what you had the pink one did look like a deliberate nudge to the shark at it's rear end or was it accidental ? Has which ever way it was I believe the shark got annoyed with that especially that end of the body of the shark . Just curiosity but I'm sure very frightening to experience . I feel I too would push away the shark if I was quick enough . Still I didn't experience this . You was quite lucky .
Yep never swim with oceanic white tips
Where is this filmed
For the coral and the colour of the water in the first photo at the begining seems to me like Egypt....red sea.
This shark is curious not aggressive
Hardly aggressive, he was just swimming around the idiots swimming near the surface. Hardly a fight when you just moved your flippers. I've seen more aggressive squirrels 🦈🐿
Not Beach people
This is not an "aggressive" longimanus, this is a normal longimanus, and this is their usual behaviour, yours are wrong, never put the fins in front of him, always show the face, always watching the shark.
yeah, the longimanus always same behavior, never gives up. those are small ones but the guys are really playing with fire.
Shut up Danielle, nobody has time for your smug condescending ass.
"Growing up to 10ft long, they are not the largest sharks, but their ferocity once led the oceanographer Jacques Cousteau to describe them as ‘the most dangerous of all sharks’."
And your statistics are shit. White tips accounts for what is believed to be hundreds of deaths, although most of them come from the attacks on the sailors that went into the water with the USS Indianapolis during WW2.
Danielle Stevens keep thinking that shit. And stay on dry land. You’ll be ok
Spirit Dot, the longimanus is the Latin name for the oceanic white tip.
F
Is this Elphistone reef?
Big Brothers
Oh yeah!!! That was a bloody attack!!
No business being on surface unless getting out the water
That's one way to ensure a white tip might bite.
The thing I hate the most about these types of videos is the fake shark experts in the comments. Always so annoying, condescending, wrong and sociopathic.
So wheres the aggressive shark? I only see the playful curious one
It's looking for openings to bite, I mean come on. It's not a human, it's not curiously examine others in the way that we might- it's concerned with food.
@@18skeltor have you never seen a shark video or just tv shows and movies of sharks lol
@@cowuwu1 Haha, very funny. You do know what kind of shark this is, yes? And what kind of a hunter it is? Then you'll understand that this shark is exhibiting feeding behavior.
@@18skeltor Its curiousity. The fins are not in the aggresive mood position. The Diver did something wrong thats why it thinks its food and go for the taste bite

A ‘Longimanus’ shark……there’s me thinking it was just a White Tip……..😊😁
Longimanus is the scientific name of a Oceanic Whitetip
Sharks only bite when you touch the private parts
the fish that follow the shark are little troopers, are they pilot fish?
I think so...i think the longer slimmer fish we sometimes see are remora fish...both thought to eat parasites off the shark also doing a cleaning job for the shark 👍
no "possie" fish....they hang around with the boss
I pet lemon sharks, but I have no desire to swim with oceanic white and blacktip sharks.
When I'm diving with a spearfishing buddy I never have problems with bullsharks. My wetsuit smells like old man pee. His smells like yummy bloody fish. Yep, they check me out then go find the real spearfisherman.
Oceanic White Tip. Very unpredictable.
The title is completely misleading. The shark was not aggressive at all, curious I would say that yes. Maybe he just wanted to ask the human why millions of his kind are slaughtered every year to make fin soup.
Most beautiful shark imho
Fight with an *CURIOUS* longimanus shark
Insane man fights shark and never bleeds
Are you sure that it's not an Oceanic White tip shark? They are very hungry.
Its their Latin name
