Drosophila is the scientific name for lesser flies/fruit flies. When I first watched him say it on that show, I had do a rewind because I didn't think people say that in Korea. Then I realized that he's a genius, after all and a nature person. After working 2 years in the university lab with drosophila melanogasters, I decided that entomology wasn't my thing. But now, I do know a surefire way of getting rid of them in the house without chemicals. Two years.. and that's the only practical knowledge I gained. 😑

Poke a hole through the sponge and insert a funnel (or cone with large enough hole on the bottom). The flies will find their way into the bottle by the smell but can't get out as easy and are trapped. Just make sure to dispose it after few hours... in 2 weeks and you'll have a new generation of larvae crawling around. I was working as a student while in college... I changed my majors a lot but within the sciences - tried botany (and realized that my idea of hiking isn't same as the others - my hike starts at 10am after getting a large frappucino and when I finish half the drink, I turn back... leisurely trail (steps preferred) of 2 hours max because I would need to pee), thought of mycology because the prof was hot but I couldn't justify why I wanted to study mushrooms to my parents 🤷♀ Chemistry was a fire hazard and most grad students were just interested in brewing their own alcohol. I can't swim well (I can float long enough for rescue to get me.. but that's about it) so marine biology was out. I enjoyed school but in the end I realized that I have not gained a single marketable skill... just tons of interesting dinner party stories of random useless facts..😅
