    My first time seeing you and your farm is the embodiment of a dream. The longer I live, the more I realize the importance and necessity of self reliance. AfricanAmericans farms and homesteads and self sufficient, prosperous communities are my dream. Although, after reconstruction many successful neighborhoods were razed and the inhabitants murdered and the assets stolen, I feel blessed to see the resurgence of owning land and making it work. God bless you and yours.

      @@PrideRanch I am from south Mississippi near Harrisburg down in Columbia ,Mississippi. Country all the way smile, my husband family use to farm this away also, they had lots of mixed cattle and hogs, chickens, goats. They had one goat that would follow me everywhere. I was pregnant at the time and I couldn't run from him but he was homeless so I don't know why I was scared of him, so I got use to him walking with me everywhere. He became a family pet. I don't want to tell you the rest of this story of what happened to him it's to sad to think about. But yes I am from the back woods of Mississippi and very prod to be from the country. While Angus is king due to a bit of marketing power….one must always be cognizant of the environment. In TX…heat/humidity. Takes a toll. King Ranch developed the Santa Gertrudis breed looong time ago for that reason. Brangus another example of cattle bred for thriving in TX. Nice herd! Like your sustainability mindset.

    • @PrideRanch
      @PrideRanch  4 месяца назад +1

      Love it!!! You are absolutely correct!! I didn’t know this when I started. I gravitated to the Brangus breed. Didn’t know the difference. Then I visited a top Angus ranch in Texas last September. I was amazed to see how they appeared to have a difficult time breathing while covered in shade. Later that day I was back at my place and some of my Brangus were sunbathing and others were grazing.

    Greg Judy uses two logs to hold the bales off the ground. Bales might not be as big as yours. But he’s a penny pincher. He buys his hay, it removes fertility from the land.

    • @PrideRanch
      @PrideRanch  4 месяца назад +2

      I’ll have to check this out. What do you mean by hay removes fertility from the land? Are you meaning the nitrogen?

    • @marcruel9401
      @marcruel9401 4 месяца назад +1

      All his grass is eaten, trampled, and food for the lands micro organisms that are beneficial rather than removing it. Also intensive grazing

    • @adrianmitchell9819
      @adrianmitchell9819 4 месяца назад +3

      I was thinking the same thing. When the cattle relieve themselves, it add the nutrients back to the ground. Also, look at increasing your riparian area around your stream. This will give your cattle more room to relax while being in the shady for the hot months.
      Also, look at White Oak Pasture. He is very good at Ranching. He has been doing for about 30 years now. Cheers!

      Good morning and happy 4th of July! My cattle are grass fed and grained finished. There are strict government regulations to follow to be considered organic.

    You can build an inexpensive hay bar using shipping containers and shipping containers and ship and container covers. The 40 foot wide is 23 foot high. You can.
    Buy front and back walls to those covor walls with flaps. Plus you can use the container for fade and equipment. Not expensive about 15 to $20000.

    I heard that if you lay some copper piping in the water troughs it discourages algae growth! My friends that have chickens tried it in their chicken waterers + it worked! 🤷🏽‍♀️ give it a try?

    Don’t want to snoop on finances but…….how do you manage to upgrade your lovely ranch? Do you sell the cattle? Do you send Dinero out to make money through breeding? I know it must take a fortune to keep up your ranch.

      Great question! The answer is . . . . . . .planning! The cattle alone can't generate the cash needed at this stage to achieve what I am doing. So I leverage multiple income streams to make it happen. my photography business is one of those www.lydellpride.com.

    At rogue base, it's not good for your cattle. Get you 340 foot timbers or post. A telephone calls set them 3 foot apart. Stop them will elevate your hay off the ground. You don't want that road based on your feet. But your cattle, because they'll eat it if it's there.

      Thanks a ton for this. Sometimes the comments don't come across correctly. So I have some questions. You are saying to get three to four timbers? The post reads three hundrend and forty. Also if you placed them on the ground how do you drive the tractor up each time and not hit the timbers?

    What would a heifer of that status cost approximately? That girl is show barn perfect. She has the temperament of a show heifer. Simply beautiful. My dad raised red brangus for years in East Texas. Love the content. I no longer work ranch animals now living in the city; however, your channel gives me a glimpse into my youth.
