    Been playing for 30 years and never thought about this way to play a B chord. It is a bit limiting with only the 3 notes but it kicks ass in Sweet Caroline. Many many Thanks. And I don't care who or where you are if you play Sweet Caroline at a party everyone will song along. Guaranteed :-)

    Neat trick! On an electric it would really simplify since many half chords and power chords r used. I only wish I could whip out my Gibson accoustic (1972) and play but arthritis is too painful to play. I'm 70 so it's tough to get old. But I appreciate the clarity of ur presentation. Nice vid for younger folks. Thanks. Phil

    Great lesson reinforcing how chord shapes can be moved around the neck, not only for the sake of simplicity, but variety. Obviously, the more strings you get involved--barre chords--the richer your tone is going to be, but it's always helpful to have other options. Being able to play songs keeps beginners like myself inspired and moving forward while their dexterity and finger strength improves. Right now, my barre chords are inconsistent--but a little less so every day. It doesn't happen overnight. Thank you for presenting some alternatives. A shout out and love to all the Over 50 Beginners!!!

    HI old friend! I like playing this song with the capo on 2 using the A feel. Of course it takes a few barre chords. Love the progression in the song when it goes 3, 2 and 1 (also goes 3, 2 and 5). Capo 4 using the G feel is also pretty easy avoiding all barre chords if one plays the "easy" Bm. Hope you are well!

    I know I'm not the first to say thanks for a new shape for B and C but I'm sure I won't be the last. I've been playing a long time but one can get shape "ruts".. and seeing a new way gets you into new sounds and new ways to navigate the fretboard.

    Thats a nice trick. I prefer to play the bar chords though. Bar the 2nd, 3rd & 4th strings at the 2nd fret with your 3rd finger for an A major. Slide it up 2 frets and bar the 1st fret, all 6 strings with your first finger - theres your B major. And you can strum all 6 strings.

  • @rodnyg7952
    @rodnyg7952 6 лет назад +2

    Yes, a three note voicing with a movable chord shape that include a root, 3rd, and 5th provides an alternative that can be easier to finger than a barre chord. It's a form often used a lot in comping. However, the frustration in becoming comfortable when forming a barre can't be avoided forever if one wants to strum or pick more than three strings at a time when making certain chord voicings.

      Don't play what he did - it's not correct. The "hands, touching hands" bit is all wrong. It should be A for 'Hands" then add an F# to the A (so think that's F#m with an A bass) for the "touching hands" then go to the E for "reaching out"

    One thing those who complain about the incomplete sound of your B trick miss is that it is good learn to play 3 Note chords. Many advanced players use three-note chords up the neck, the main lick motiff in Dire Straits, you're so far away, comes to mind. Also many David Gilmour licks use 3 Note chords up the neck. Understanding the idea and how to form them is really a good thing. Carry on.

But the ( E ) just didn't sound bass enough and I could tell it was missing something that there was some more notes in there and the missing notes were the ( B ) notes ... Thanks now I will be able to make it sound much better...

    The best option is to learn and practice all your barre chord shapes. 🎸No pain no gain.

    • @lothar34
      @lothar34 8 лет назад +1

      I always play a 2nd fret A string barre when I want an easy B major, but it's always cool to have more options. I have a theory that it might be easier for a beginner to just learn power chords/barre chords. Then jump right into playing songs (rather than learning a bunch of open shapes like most of us do at first).

    • @MrSticks1994
      @MrSticks1994 8 лет назад +2

      +Lothar ThirtyFour I play only a little guitar and yeah bar chords are easier to understand, but they were a bitch to play starting out lol

    • @jackbenimble99999

      The number one lesson for beginner players should be to make sure to have light gauge strings and low action.
      As far as bar chords, I play them, but in many cases it's overkill, especially on electric or if playing in a band with a bass. For example, another alternative to the B chord is the A chord two frets up, just the 3 middle strings, i.e. the B without the bar. For the E shaped bar, a common alternative is to use the index to fret the B string and mute the skinny E string.

      @MrKellyak47 7 лет назад +1

      Phill Robinson Yea Barre chords are tough when you start learning even at 50 after you've worked your joints ( wrist etc ) down all your life. If I had started in the 80s, I would probably be good at Barre chords too.

    Hey thanks a lot, I was really looking for a way to play some chords as l was just picking strings...I am missing the first finger on my left hand and it does make things a little more challenging some times. This seems to work good for me...

      Wow good for you, man. This approach particularly works for you. You still have many, many options - The A shape is also movable, also the D shape. You may have noticed that the C chord is just a combination of the D shape and the E shape moved down a string.

    • @judasiscariot2648

      Stan Hubl maybe if you start playing left handed with a thumb pick you’ll see your options open up.
