During the Fox and SN 5.0 Days, underdrive pulley's was the fourth mod after adding Timing (from *10 to *12), Air Filter and 3:73 gears. It was Crank, Water Pump and Alternator. They claimed 8-10hp but nobody tested them. I remember at idle during night conditions, if your headlights were dim at the red light and got bright when you took off, we all knew you had pulley's.
Reducing crank pulley size wasn't always just about seeking more power. In the old days water pumps were prone to cavitation and alternators got damaged when race engines ran up to 8,000+ rpm. Don't know if that is a problem anymore but that's probably most of the reason this was done.
Very cool, Turdzilla/Chopzilla is running and sounding damn good, very good power for N/A and seems very smooth, that idle is really chopping some serious trees.
The pullies arent gonna "reduce power" its simple physics and turning less with less weight its gonna be slighty more i think 5-10 hp max depending on application. Its a very small amount so doing it on different days with not as good of conditions could def cause it to read lower than before. Its gonna reduce rotating mass and weight thus reduce parastitic loss but its a small amount dont expect anything crazy but it all adds up i also think it could increase response too but i have no testing to back that up just a guess. I could see it benefitting i ways other than peak to peak numbers too. For one it SHOULD be less weight on the front its an easy install and cheap so why not? When youre na in the mid 300s to the wheels it all adds up.
I did that back in the 90s on an old Pontiac motor I built by removing the mechanical fan, larger alternator pulley and balancer pulley.. at the time I noticed it revved faster and spun going into 3rd..no Dyno 😂.. It's a great way to find that little bit extra.. cool video
Hell yea. 3v catches so much hate but if that’s what you have you can definitely make power with it. I have an 08 gt premium 5 speed car. Jlt cold air intake, twin 60mm gt500 tb, ford racing intake manifold, Howard rattler cam shafts, 1-3/4” longtubes, under drive pulleys, cat/muffler delete, 4.10 gears tuned by Lito with a zex wet kit spraying 150 shot. I’ve never had it on the Dyno but according to a hp calculator using my 1/4 mile trap speed 124mph and guessing on the weight at 3700lbs it’s making right at 550hp. I actually have the video on my channel running my buddy’s 21 fbo e85 10 speed gt 50mph to 130mph. I was actually out on him about a fender till I had to shift then he got me by a fender and I was slowly coming back but with the 4.10’s I was about to hit the rev limiter at 130mph in 4th gear. I also have a video of my stock 19 gt 10 speed on a 75 shot (dry kit) running his car. All 3 cars are actually very close 50-130mph. And 1/4 mile. My 3v went 11.28 @ 124mph on a 125 shot his 21 10 speed went 11.30’s @ 129mph I believe it was on a 125 shot. His car definitely had more in it but he ended up totaling the car before we got that 10 second slip. I haven’t ran the 19 at the track yet. But guessing on the 75 shot it would be in the 11.70 range maybe.
Plan on putting a set of gen2+ coyote rods in it and adding another kit. Keep the first stage a 150 shot on a wot switch progressive controller and then add second kit spraying 100 shot on a button. Was going to boost it but ima save that money and put it into the 10 speed.
Love the turdzilla 3v man! Currently doing almost the mirror image swap with the Saleen body kit also running thumpa cams and a Motorsport intake. What exhaust are you running it sounds killer!
FYI you don't need to hit the green then red button. The dyno can and should be configured to end the run and apply the brake on a single red button press....keep it up.
It’s what I got used to from previous Dynos. I think win pep 7 had issues not ending or something. I just like doing it that way because whatever dyno I’m using I know the run ends right when hit the green button
You can see fuel gets closer as we tune. I don’t have any maf data from this setup to start with so it’s being done from scratch. Log, tweak maf curve, and repeat. I am suspecting we are near the limit of both pump and injectors as both are stock (stock 99 gt fuel pump and stock 24lb 3V injectors

Not adding power. Freeing up power. But on a Dyno will show as more power. True more power is changes in combustion chamber, so this falls under less parasitic loss??
It's been done for years and years and years since the mm&ff magazine days. Underdrive pullies always add power they reduce parasitic losses and usually weigh less but it's not gonna be a ton I could see 5-10 whp it isn't alot of money and it all adds up...same way deleting the ac removes weight and frees up losses but on a street car with a functioning ac it isn't worth it imo.
I just watched the video (or finished it should I say) he's claiming no more power I'd have to see more with the conditions on both days but they added power on fox bodies maybe the pulleys aren't as heavy or something on 3v engines? I mean if nothing else i think it should increase response similar to how a better air intake setup can help response. Pretty sure aftermarket underdrives are lighter too so it can do things besides just peak power difference i.e. not seeing a peak increase doesn't necessarily mean they are worthless. There could be gains in other parts of the curve (it appeared to be but like I said I'd need more info on da and such since he didn't do same day testing (he did say conditions were similar)

around 10 hp less than whats here. Its not a huge difference on lower hp cars.

Yeah. When you're measuring wheel hp it definitely makes the number go up. So it's adding numbers technically lol
Next you should do injectors. People always add injectors on a n/a car and think it adds power. I’m curious
This might see a little more power up top because like I stated in the video we are very close to the limit of 24lbers
