That's impressive!
*Continues eating processed food that will kill me by the time im 62.*
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Really enjoyable video and love the gym Matt. You're Awesome
GOOD STUFF!! Been wanting to build one ☝️
A quality clippers to cut cable like that is kind of pricey. Using a cheap tool will do more harm to the tool than the cable. But a $12 angle grinder will cut cable, chain and any metal all day long. Dremel type tools work good too, just slow.
I’ve been searching for a good option. This is great! Thx for taking the time to make this vid. Def going to give this a shot.
How big does a home gym need to be?
It's up to you. As big as you need it for the equipment you need. My entire gym footprint fits on the wall. That's all I needed/wanted.
hi. can you tell us where did you buy that rack or where we can find it?
It’s from the company PRX Performance. Fantastic rack.
Bro!!! I should pay you for maki by this video dude!! Saved the hell outta my wallet I was bout a spend crazy for a whole ass set up for nothing!! Thanks brother!!
I get annoyed when I watch these American DIY videos because you have “Home depot”.
Our hardware stores in Britain are shit and don’t have half as much stuff as yours.
Just wondering how it's been holding up after 3 years? I'm looking for an inexpensive DIY to do exercises that require cables at mid height too such as reverse flies for rear delts. The anchor point has to be above the shoulder so I foresee some issues of the pulley not being able to keep the cable in the gear.
how are you able to go back to a high position for like lay pull downs?
I’d replace that cheap little pulley and replace it with a pulley like the one at the top/middle of your rack.
So you made the same video as Coop at GarageGymReviews just 6 months later ? ruclips.net/video/up1-7i8OVDM/видео.html
Did you watch my vid? Nah respect to Coop he’s got tons of value on his channel. I’m offering a low cable row option which I hadn’t seen on YT yet. Why you salty?
1. Not civil. 2. DONT USE THIS CRAP!!!! It burns and breaks!!! 360 weight work load cool. Poorly made and frays and rips during workouts 😢 looking for another route now.
Not civil? I’m confused. How much weight were lifting with this setup?
@@MattLaneFitness there was a pop up said “stay civil” lol. Not that much weight. 20lbs shouldn’t rip a coated 360lbs rated metal cord. 🤦♀️
@Ghost42o415 ohhhh hahahah I gotcha. Yeah the comments guidelines I gotcha. Well hey I’m really sorry but I’m not sure what to tell ya. Did you get the same brand of wire or a different brand? Since I posted this video about a year later yes I have had some wear on the coating but even after all of this time nothing is fraying.
@@MattLaneFitness same brand and all. After like a couple days the coating rubs off and metal shows and then the inevitable happened. FH%}%IING SNAPS MID REP. Everyone swears by this but……🤦♀️ it’s flawed. So time for another experiment.
What is the brand name of your squat cage and how high is it? I'm thinking about putting one in my apartment my ceiling height is 8 1/2 feet
PRX performance. They have different heights. Give em a look
Brother, this video is a life saver! 🙌 I bought a pulley system months back and I love it but like you said, we need a lower pull option. Going to the hardware store tomorrow to try this! Thanks for the video
Eyyyyy right on! How’s it turn out!?!?
I love rotator cuff cable exercises, this was a very helpful video, thank you
This gives me some ideas. I however just attached pulley to my barbell and used the j-hooks to position the height. Works great for both seated and standing rows
Eyyyy I like that!
How do attach it to the barbell? I would think the pulley would move around too much?
@@natebrennan6837 attach the pulley to a barbell? Like a standard 45lb barbell? If that’s what you’re asking…ya don’t.
@@MattLaneFitness no I was wondering how Randall attached it to the barbell. I need a pulley system for doing rotational stuff for my son, like wood choppers etc. I think your design will work. We need to move it from knee height to chest height and I think the large caribiner will work perfectly and just move it up and down the rack.
@@natebrennan6837 ahhhhhhh I gotcha I gotcha
OMG, i've been looking for an easily removable way to do low pulley work. thank you!!!
Eyyyyy for sure! Did you end up making it?
Did you figure out how to brace yourself when doing seated rows w heavy weight?
???? Hasn't been a problem for me to be honest
That's a great video. Can you explain how u fixed the big carabiner on the top? Because in the video u explained about the smaller carabiner but how is made the bigger one? and how it is fixed on the rak?
Hey hey appreciate you watching it. In the vid I mentioned that I bought the PRX cable pulley system. But you’re right I didn’t go into detail. With that comes the large pulley which is what I think you meant and not the carabiner maybe? That cable pulley system comes with a strap that wraps around the crossbar, the strap attaches to the carabiner and that attaches to the pulley. Make sense?
Check out the link in the description to the exact cable pulley system. It’s not a referral link.
DON'T BUY THIS PULLEY, IT DOESN'T HAVE BEARINGS
@testtest-pb6fq been using it for a year now without problems , works great for me.
@@testtest-pb6fq idk i just bought some normal pullies making a full full diy cable row and so far they look alright and the manufacturer says they are rated for 200 kg
Ive been looking for a way to do the pulley setup from chest height, and no one has been able to figure out until I came across this vid. Pretty clever and thanks! Now I dont have to buy a functional trainer
the wire rope clips are upside down
Nah I wanted that free movement option.
Good for you Matt lane fitness tutorials Thank you for everything I went from not being able to run flea minuet to running for 25 minuets with no brake. I hope you find some happiness man and by the way it is not by gon Tim it’s qy gon gin
Great vid. My wife and I installed TRX bands in our basement. Shortly after a kids inflatable frog swing is attached to the suspension anchor instead. Another thing taken over by the kids
Thanks! Now I need a rack. 😅
Yes you do!
Like it great help
Was that a leather strap at the top that is wrapped around your pull up bar? Where did you get it from?
Nylon strap with 2 carabiners. It came with the pulley pieces from the same company as the squat rack which is PRX.
@@MattLaneFitness thanks!
I have prx also and pulley system
Gonna go to the hardware store hmmm gonna go look see how low my rack holes are - goal is low seated rows. Sweet
I drilled an additional hole in each upright. Worked well and even over a year later it’s solid as a rock.
@@MattLaneFitness sweet building today - FYI titan has improved
Just added vertical leg press and seated leg extension and leg curl machine to our garage, picked up a sweet reverse hyper machine from rogue as well - love this! Wife will have low cable pulley when she comes home! Also mark smelly bell I have a few of his cable attachments to make tricep and face pulls etc more fun!!!
Cheers
@@aaronoconnor8862 nice!!!!!! Yup I’ve seen that Titan has been improving for a while now. Seems they’re putting out some quality stuff! Yup Rogue has a great RHM. Build that thing and let the progress come your way!
Looks good. I built something similar. Trying to figure out a way to hold my legs down.
Awesome video! I just got the pro rack and the carabiner you recommended is too small. What size do you suggest I get for the Pro rack?
What is the black wire for?
Non low row movements. Think tricep press downs
You forgot the $3 dollar oil for the squeeks!
If ya ain’t got WD 40 idk what ta tell ya.
great guide and just subbed!
BTW Does the weight feel the same in both hands or heavier in one since the loading pin is to your right and not in the centre?
Are you able to show us how you transition from upper to lower cables and vice versa? I have a cable pulley system I bought. Love your idea. I really dont get how you use the pull down system you bought.
You need a pair or end cutters / nippers for cutting wire like that. With regular side cutters, you will struggle.
I found that out the hard way too, cutting gear / brake cable.
Listen!!!!!……..yeah you’re prolly right 😂🤣
Hi Matt, what rack is that? I have a wall mounted pull up bar, and I’m considering getting rid of it to get a wall mounted rack and do the same pulley system you have there. Goodbye gym membership lol
Hahah heck yeah. It’s made by PRX. Check out there site and you’ll see a boatload of options.
Thx good info
Awesome video can you do one to do cable flys
Just a tip... I would use silicone spray as as a lubricant rather than wd40. Wd40 is not a lubricant it’s more of a rust remover. PB Blaster makes a good silicone spray you can find it at most hardware stores. I use it on any metal on metal contact things that I need to silence.
Really?......well if and when the issue comes up I’ll give it a shot. Thank you!
@@MattLaneFitness Yep! Common misconception about WD40. thanks for the pulley tips!
Matty Ice!! We need to hook up for a training session my brother!! Dayuuummm bruh!! That looks legit!! You make it look easy!!
Eyyyyy you lemme know when. It gets the job done!
Id would need to find another option for the larger carabiner as my titan t2 doesn't have the side hole options :(
Hey matt, love the videos. Helped alot. Just asking but when you go the barbers what do you ask for because your hair looks sick.
Pensacola House or Barbers. Colt. Been going to him for years now.
*MattGyver* 😎💪🏻😉
Ohohohohoho Dai I friggin love that!
Hi Matt, I don’t know if you’ll see this but can you please watch The Karate Kid franchise? There are some good Bye Gon Jim moments in there.
Hey hey. We shall see. We have a lot planned. Ultimately it’s Holdens call. ❤️💪🏽
@@MattLaneFitness I completely understand Matt. Have a great day and keep doing you!!
Brilliant!
But how did you attach the top pulley to the rack?
Don’t know why I didn’t get a notification for this video, once again great video Matt!
Eyyyyy thank you
Great stuff man! Thanks for the video! I wanted to ask about your floor matts. Where did you get them from? How do you like them?? Thanks again!
Tractor Supply Company will have en. Their fantastic! I now have more than doubled the amount I have in the gym and they are absolutely worth it.
@@MattLaneFitness thanks a ton!
Hey Matt! My rack has 3” x 3” uprights. The large carabiner you have listed in the video doesn’t fit. Any idea what I could use as a potential replacement? Thanks for any insight!
A smaller carabiner? Not sure I fully understand tbh.
How is this holding up since the video? Those pulleys are way too small in diameter and it will cause the cable to fray over time. You want one that's at least 3" and, if possible, to run the cable through at least two of them so that it doesn't have to make such sharp bends.
It’s as solid as day one. Coated wire is doin great.
Thank you! I have a PRx Pro rack. I got everything like you said and it worked. My feedback: The large carabiner did not fit. Luckily I had a bigger one in my toolbox. I made one long cable like you did and it worked but the problem now is I won’t be able to use my PRx pulley for high pulley exercises bc I am using that pulley for this new one I made. So what I did was made a shorter cable about 56”-57” long and I connect it to my PRx high pulley to make it longer when I want to do low pulley exercises and I connect it to the lowest part of my rack. Anyways, works great thank you for the tutorial.
Eyyyyy congrats! Glad the vid helped! Yes that’s what I did as well. I have a longer grey cable for low cable work and then a shorter black cable for higher cable work.
I wish I read your reply, what size carabiner did you get/have? I bought the one Matt listed and now am finding a new home/use for it :)
@@ajmunn1229 I believe a 6” x 4”
absolutely outstanding bro!!!!!
Nice idea helped me lot to my custom made pulley can also be a great crossover
What size is your upright? 2" x 2"? I've got a 3 x 3 and I'm wondering if the large carabiner will work on mine.
2x2
I did same set up...after a couple months the heat that builds while in use has melted the plastic coating off the cable😬
Damn! You either have some crazy weight, high reps maybe too small of pulleys?
@4min mark. Just put silicone on the sliding parts to stop that noise
Meant to say the pulleys.
silicone on the rolling pulley?
@@MattLaneFitness yes try it. The pulley wheel moves and makes a noise. The spray worked for me. Also for door hinges
Simple solutions are always the best, thanks for sharing.
I am interested in creating an over door pulley that can handle max 15lbs. Any ideas? What was the company that you mentioned?
PRX. Over the door pulley. Honestly 15 lbs you could do a simple resistance band if I'm thinking correctly of what you're wanting.
Thanks for the video it is amazing
do the main pulley on top have bearing inside or is it just a roller pulley?
Roller
Thinking of setting something similar. Can you share the model or link to get your power cage? Great video. Thanks for sharing.

I may have to make one of my own in the future!!
This may be an obvious answer, but your cable length, is that basically just for mid-level but can it work if you put your carabiner at the bottom of your rack, or will you need to have another cable to be for just above ground pulls? I bought a cable pulley system off Amazon similar to yours, but I would like to do mid range and low pulls or rows as well and your DYI seems simple enough I could probably do it myself without my husband's help - well, maybe I'll need his help for cutting the wire, but we have a special tool for that already. Thanks in advanced.
Hey hey nah it's no biggie at all. Yeah this length could work but I would probably give it another 2 feet of cable if you plan on doing something like a cable upright row.
@@MattLaneFitness Thanks. I’ve ordered everything I need, I hope. But I’m going to be using wire ferrules instead of the clamps. Cleaner look and fewer chances of me snagging my clothing or skin on the clamps. I’m going to do a dual pulley system similar to your system so I can do crossovers at any height. Your DYI system is simple, yet it looks very effective. Love it!!!
This is the perfect home gym in my opinion
Does your weight not shift and swing around? Mine is :( wat do
Yes somewhat however if I’m doing the movement correctly not too bad.
How long did those pulleys hold up? I've tried similar set ups before and pulleys without ball bearings never seemed to last very long for me
They’re both still going strong with no signs of stress.
Hello Matt, thanks for making the video. I was wondering if you've tried doing a stright leg kickback or donkey kick. Thanks.
Creative, smart, funny. You'd be the perfect guy, if it wasn't for those Star Wars videos 😤....
This is amazing!!! Thanks for this man
This video just helped me make my own cable system. Needs to be tweaked but it’s working.
What size is that pulley?
Which one? The bigger the better tbh
@@MattLaneFitness I’m at my Home Depot seems the biggest swivel pulley they have is 1-1/2in . Crossing fingers is big enough
Gotcha the smallest one was about 1 inch
Genius 🤦🏾♂️can't believe I didn't think of this! Love it!
Eyyyyy glad it helped!!!!
Any recommendations for outfitting it to the bottom of rack and using two leg straps to do seated leg extensions? I cant quite figure out the best way to attach the low cable to get the right extension if that makes sense.
dude, I just came in from the garage after spending a half-hour trying to figure out how I was going to get a bar fabricated (across the bottom of the PRX rack) to hold the low pulley. THEN, I saw your video. WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THIS?! lol. I'll probably just buy a low pulley system, but at least I won't have to figure out how to attach it to the freakin' rack! thanks, man.
Yes yes yes! Heck yeah! Glad it helped!
Did you find a low pulley system that works with the PRX rack? I'm looking myself at the moment, but haven't found anything.
Awesome
Mate, what's the gauge of your upright? Thanks
The smaller version. 2x2. I legit overlooked it at check out. It’s totally adequate but I intended to get the 3x3.
Dude, yes.
Matt been on his game as of late with all the vids and lives! I love it!
We gotta move brotha! ❤️💪🏽
Awesome! Thanks.
Thanks man this was great! I sort of had an idea of what I needed to do, but i just over thought things and you narrowed it down!
Hah! I’m glad. Trust me I overthought it as well! Make it happen! This thing is still going strong even since I posted this vid.
This was for my son who will be going to college pretty soon. It is perfect for doorm
Thank you for showing this.
Great Job!
Cool seeing you in your own element after getting used to seeing you in the reaction videos.
Appreciate you. Love em both. ❤️💪🏽
I have been thinking of how to configure my pulley system for leg kickbacks… I just love this!!
Your a legend Matt, keep being you !! Big love !!
Eyyy love ya back
What’s up Matt how you doing?
Hey hey doing well! Hope you’re well!
@@MattLaneFitness im doing Great😁
Very awesome!!
Wow
Very cool video! I love the physical fitness videos. It’s been a while
Been a while since I’ve been in “that place”. That’s changing for sure. Such a balance of mental and physical. ❤️💪🏽
Hey Matt, I tried to do it exactly like you and then realized the holes on my power rack only go one way (no side holes) so I'm unable to connect the large carabiner to the rack like you. Any suggestions?
May have the answer - a big arse u-bolt might do the trick...back to home depot...
@@derrickmantarelli99 how’d it go?
@@MattLaneFitness Oh, I ended up following another suggestion from instagram where the pulley is basically strapped to the power rack along one of the bars that are on the floor...works great for the lower pulley exercises having the pulley at ground level
Nice!
Ha.
Eyyyyyyyyy
The two cable storage is what I needed to see! The idea of uninstalling and reinstalling every time was something I didn't want to deal with lol
I have a roller that's not from prx and doesn't have the option to rest the other cable high while in use..have you seen any online similar to the prx roller?
Right there with ya on the cable storage. If it isn't simple it won't be used. I haven't. The PRX roller has enough space to fit 2 or more cables through which is another reason I bought that system. I knew PRX was quality stuff, that it would work and went with it.
Just realized you have the profile rack, the big hook doesn't fit on pro :(
@@ajmunn1229 are you serious!!?!?!? That’s surprising. Well if you have the pull bar attachment you’d be fine. For myself I’ve drilled a couple of holes in the uprights for some custom attachments and they’ve handled it like a champ.
@@MattLaneFitness what is the pull bar attachment? I don't. I did a diy high pully and was looking to add this next step but need some sort of lower side mount now
@@ajmunn1229 you know how you can select different models from PRX that come with a pull up bar attachment. I’m guessing you didn’t get one of those options when you ordered? Or maybe you don’t have a PRX rack? Regardless you could extend that strand with even another carabiner or something similar.
thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
3:15 Got to work on grip strength bro. #IGetItThough
Needed stronger tools as well hah
That's a great idea. Are you able to do chest fly?
Negative. Would need a second pulley up top.
Hey, just finished making this, works great!! Had to add some holes to my rack (it's a basic rack, nothing fancy), but hey, you're a legend! Thanks man!!
Great info! What cage and mats are those?
How do I make the cable shorter
You mean besides cutting it I’m guessing right? If so have 2 different cables. 1 that is longer for the “low” movements and another cable for the “high” movements.
Matt Lane Fitness will it break/snap if I tie the cables in a knot to make it shorter?
Thank you for this!
Eyyyyy glad it helped!
