Your videos are always informative. Thank you so much.
Love how you take care of yourself!
Hey!! Dr. Mike nice kitchen, and thank you for the recipe. 🤗🙏🏼
Dr. Mike, you are amazing and your workout in the gym impressed me. Keep it up any medical doctor who has sports medicine under his belt command my respect and knows nutrition is hard to find.
I am 85 years old and a great grandfather. All my life I love sports and physical fitness with the sand, the sun and the sea as my play grounds. I even joined the Army as an Infantry officer to test myself for 12 years. I worked out in the gym 4-5 days a week until the covid pandemic lockdown and all the gyms and swimming pools were closed. I am the only member of the whole family who refused to get vaccinated with the covid vaccine and barred from all places even attending Church Service. I have done some much of research on the covid-19 and the vaccines - 3 trillion $$$ industry - I never missed your video on the covid report - the other doctor is Dr. John Campbell of UK.
That looks really good!! Need to try those ingredients sometime.
Great video! I really need to try this! Been stress eating lately. late at night, not good as Im starting to feel.
Thanks for the smoothie recipe! 😋
Thank you for sharing!! I love videos from actual physicians because I feel like I can trust the content. 😊

@@susannahhart3946 to blindly follow anyone just because they have an MD behind their name. To each his own I guess.
@@maddiebrown4837 I said nothing about “blindly following” anyone. I am quite capable of doing my own research and wouldn’t be so quick to judge. You do know what they say about making assumptions? But of course-that’s just me.

Can't wait to get all these ingredients and start making those delicious post workout smoothies! Dr. Mike, have you been able to find an even better/healthier protein powder to recommend since the making of this video or are you sticking with the one shown in this video? Thank you!
why this protein company? even their one-ingredient whey is not very revealing. i.e., they don't tell you if it's whey concentrate, whey isolate, casein, etc. since it's less than 90% protein by weight i think its a concentrate. they won't tell you if it's cold processed, un-denatured, or if they use harsh chemicals to obtain that whey (ion exchange). Also, at the top of their webpage it says NSF certified, but that's only their vegan line. The simple label looks nice, but there's cleaner/better protein out there :)
Protein powder does not come " cold Pressed" it's not an oil it's a powder
@@Browneyegirl_13 please research on how protein powder is made.
Name the brands, Mr. Jello.
@@elsagrace3893 how about you do the research? here's a hint. Look for proteins that has five ingredients or less and take the amount of protein per serving and divide that by how many grams per scoop and that'll give you your protein ratio. What we're looking for is anything over 92%, you'll be hard-pressed to find some don't even make it into the 90s. Good luck!
@@morejelloplease I took a look at the prices. What the heck! No thanks. I’ll eat real food for protein. I was being lazy and falling for marketing for a second. Anyways thanks for the formula. That’s very interesting.
Nicely done!
i just started going to the gym, you are a saver!
Perfect. Just made it the same way and love it. How many calories does this add? Thanks
As a Dr., you should know better when it comes to palm oil. When it comes to nut butters, look for nut butters that have 1 ingredient ONLY - the nut being used (preferably organic and raw). If there's going to be 2 ingredients, then a small amount of salt is fine. Avoid all added oils and added sugars of any kind.
Why is Palm Oil a negative??
Justin's does taste good, though, and mixes better in a smoothie than pure nut butter. The jury seems to be out on whether palm oil is healthy, bad or neither. There are the environmental issues however.
One negative is that it's environmentally destructive to produce.
@@willyscj22 causes inflammation, insulin resistance, can raise LDL, linked to increased risk of heart disease and over 1/3rd of its make up is saturated fat.
The few things in palm oil that COULD be of benefit can easily be achieved elsewhere in far healthier ways.
And that's not even mentioning th destruction caused to the planet from harvesting it.
Exactly doctor
Say NO to palm oil
AND only organic peanut butter
Great tips here!
Informative, Helpful if complete recipe were placed above.....Thank you.
Glad to see you have bounced back from covid & food poisoning, looking good Doc☺
Thank you for the re-upload 😁
Hi Dr. Hansen, wondering if you’d consider making an assessment video on collagen type 2 and its effectiveness on joint recoveries? Thank you in advance for your time.
Hi Dr.Hansen good see you again, yo😊u a jack of all trades you are a awesome doctor I never get tired of your videos take are my pal peace out 👊💪💪💪💪💪👍
Hi Mike, do you have any thoughts on good diets for people with chronic pain/headaches. Just wanting relief without doing something wrong to my body
I can’t get over the fact that no measuring implements were used at any point during the making of that smoothie: the proportions are, “Do whatever makes you happy / Add until it feels right.” I need structure! I’d still be willing to play around and work out the recipe, though
Nice video. I also make protein smoothie, aside from cacao powder, milk and chia seeds, I also add creatine, coffee. I drink it before and after workout.
Doctor. Very well done video, sir.
Glad you liked it!
Do you drink the smoothie as a replacement meal or just after a workout?
I've tried a very similar recipe. It tastes good but it certainly doesn't curb hunger. It's alot of calories to be hungry an hour later.
Lots of wild blueberries, banana and other berries. I’ve used Arbonne protein made with pea protein. Almond milk or water, digestion plus ( prebiotics and probiotics), fiber, green mix with spirulina. The chia is a good addition which I’ll try.
Yum! 5 years, never tire of it.
As long as you are using blueberries and banana tray adding in a little plain Greek Yogurt, not too much though.
Frozen Blueberries and Banana is one of my favorites but I use Greek Yogurt and milk to boost the protein. I tried adding seeds but that did not go well. I need to try grinding them first.
Hi Doc so nice to spend time in ur kitchen than in
Mine is pretty much the same except I use almond milk, I do drink milk, but I find the almond milk works better. You can freeze some in a ice cube tray and use a couple cubes for the smoothie, gives it more texture and makes it colder.
I started adding a baby aspirin to my regime during the pandemic after you mentioned that perhaps a mild blood thinner would be good prevention.
My hands and feet are never swollen like they used to be since starting. I imagine that the internal inflammation might be something too. Thanks for that.
Unwise to do. Aspirin isnt very necessary and there is new evidence its not as beneficial to heart protection but risks over-thinning your blood.
I only added D3, nothing else.
I know two men who added a daily baby aspirin to their daily regimen. Both ended up in the hospital and nearly died from bleeding stomach ulcers. One lost HALF of his blood and needed transfusions! Each of them lost consciousness, and fortunately had someone at home with them to call an ambulance.
Neither of them had any need for the aspirin. They just heard that it might be good for them as a preventive. One was an internist in practice for over 15 years.
Be careful, folks.
Thanks for the Smoothie...
Isn't palma oil bad for you, because it's hydrogenated?
Yes, it is highly inflammatory.
@@sarabenamer2231 Thank you, that's what I read.
Palm oil is not necessarily hydrogenated. If it is it will say, hydrogenated palm oil, on the package label.
Even if not hydrogenated it is somewhat high in saturated fats though
😀 are you being Brad from Live Lean TV? I love that channel! They taught me how to eat better ❤
I make a similar smoothie with coffee minus the PB. I work the night shift so I think I’ll try the PB for some extra protein. Oh and maybe a fresh fig. Thx for another great video😊
@@rch6956 Yeah, I am skipping the PB. Missing most of the seeds mentioned. Oh well, more shopping.
He use PB because it is equal parts protein, sugar and fat and easily digested so it gets into the blood stream quickly while the other nutrients ride along. There is reason almost a trail mixes use peanuts and it is not just for flavor.
Can you make a video discussing the pros/cons of using NSAIDS for injuries (muscle, tendon, etc)?
Short term, OK. Long term use: bad idea. My best friend is dead because of 15 solid years of NSAIDs, rather than losing the weight that caused the problem(s).
@@stanj7223 yeah I've heard they're terrible for you long term. I've got Achilles tendonitis and my orthopedic has me on Meloxicam for two months straight. I'm not sure why - everything I read says that nsaids impair the healing process by cutting the inflammation out.
@@Mike-dt1yg When I switched from veggie to something like the Anti-Inflammatory Diet (actually, my own variation on the Autoimmune Protocol diet) my lower spine felt GREAT after about 6 weeks. It had given me problems on & off for decades, and either the reduction in inflammation or _something_ _else_ in my dietary change helped the compressed discs. I changed due to autoimmune problems, but the relief from lower spine pain was a welcome plus!
I hadn't heard that NSAIDs impaired healing, but it doesn't surprise me.
@@stanj7223 huh, I'll give that a shot! I've cut out red/white meat and replaced it with fish and I've been feeling pretty good other than my Achilles. I'll have to look into the anti-inflammatory diet specifically. Thank you!
Stay away from nsaids
LOVE seeds and PB. Ooh. Texture lights me up! I've already been adding flax and hemp. I also like "antioxidant fruit & fiber". ooh la-la.
One reason chia seeds appear so nutrient dense is because they are seeds, and have low water content compared to salmon, milk, spinach and blueberries. Water content makes a huge difference in nutritional value. For e.g., you can pop corn and it’ll have 15 g of fiber per 100 g.
Actually Blueberries are quite low in water content. Mash up and entire cup and see how little juice you will get. They are mostly fiber.
Hey Doctor Mike, Please explain about amino acids. Do we need 21 aminos? Are there 8 or 9 essential aminos? Thanks for the help.
Any Amino Acid can be created by the body if you eat complete proteins which is why vegetarians have issues getting a complete diet.
So I’m more of a cyclist than gym who wants to bulk up. Is this still a good recovery drink for me?
Great video, thx. A little worried about your palor, sunken eyes....
What do you recommend for teens?
What protein powder (either whey or beef) can anyone recommend that is 100% Grass Fed and Organic?
Id have said whey 60 through GNC but GNC is now owned by China so idk whats there formula is like now
There is so much controversy around the multivitamin supplements. Can you please make a video about them advising are they worth having or are they not good for overall health. Thanks.
Good evening Doctor Mike Hasen
.. nice.. kitchen..!
Palm oil is produced by cutting down rainforests in S. America plus there are more healthy oils. Beyond that, just organic peanuts can be what it's about, or and simple.
There are other p. butters on the web that are healthier than Justin's w/o palm oil.
Palm Trees literally poison the the grow in to kill other plants. They hate biodiversity, now the coconut tree loves diversity and is often grow alongside other plants because it grows healthier that way.
oh nice. anytime there's chocolate and peanut butter together, I'm down :) and you know, the seeds, if they have good shelf life would be good to keep around for bread. Speaking of, I found an amazing breakdown of how to make your own bread on the youtube channel The Hillbilly Kitchen. she even got a 10 minute skillet bread that don't require yeast. Been sharing it with lots of people so hopefully whatever's comin don't hit us so bad. and of course gotta take care of one of my favorite people however I can
As a CDE once told me that blending is a form of predigesting it? Your opinion?
More like pre-chewing but either helps.
@@JLilliquist it’s my understanding that pulverized fruit quickly spikes the blood sugar so if your prediabetic with metabolic syndrome it’s not ideal.
So it helps what specifically?

ditch the peanut butter with palm oil. use the ones with it's natural oil.

No cal or macro breakdown?
Looking at your kitchen it reminds me of something my son used to complain about. He hated living in a hospital environment. Don't your muscle need carbs?
He is doctor's and they need to have good hygiene.

What if one does not like peanut butter? 🤔
Is there another option to use?
Just skip it. That is what I did. I only had two of those seed around though.
Isn't the palm oil supposed to be bad for you?
Worse for the planet, it is is probably 90% or more of all cereals, 99% of the one in a box, I only know 2 cereals without it, both by Post, mostly used as the fat for vitamin E when they are lots of other oils than can be used but is saves them a few pennies on each box. It make me ill !! At least that coconut is a planet friendly plant.
Informative video, thanks. Haven't read the comments yet, I expect a lot of "omg, palm oil" posts though:)

Why on earth would you recommend a peanut butter made with of all things *palm* oil? There are so many better choices.

I have raw cacao powder and on the label it says that mixing it with dairy takes away the benefits of the cacao. So I make a "desert " without dairy, and it looks like brownies. If any one is interested let me know I'll give you the recipe.
Palm oil 🤷♀️
Palm Oil is evil
What's your problem with stevia? And you're ok with palm oil?
Palm Oil is evil !!
I think some people have digestive problems, such as bloating and diarrhea. It also has a licorice-like taste that's slightly bitter and some people do not like that as well but mostly the former since it is made with sugar alcohols.
Where can I buy these ingredients?
You can get better peanut butter. Any pure form of cacao work, check the baking aisle, all those seeds will be next to each other but take a list, there are a lot of them.
At the grocery store.

Hospitals and schools should be places where good nutrition is taught and provided .
It is crazy the hospitals are feeding people the very food that caused the heart disease, high blood pressure or cancer that they are treating. Every person in the hospital should receive some nutrition education before being released. Every doctor visit should be an opportunity to educate patients about how food choices impacts their health outcomes. The fact that doctors do not get nutrition training as part of their training makes no sense. Medicare and Medicaid should require nutrition education as part of patient care.
So, who is going to pay for all of the registered dietitians that would be needed to educate all of the patients? Also educating patients does not equate to dietary changes in those patients.
@@karenbarber6800 The money and lives saved by reducing high blood pressure, heart disease and cancer will far surpass the cost of educating patients. Prevention is cheaper than dealing with the consequences.
The problem is "nutrition" itself is poorly taught. Remember the idiotic food pyramid, ear lots of starch folks. Education is the last place to learn about food, they are all programmed robots.
@@KJSvitko education only works if the the person receiving it actually uses the information being taught to them. I can provide education to patients all day and if they are not willing or ready to make the dietary changes then the money spent for me to educate has not reduced the the hypertension, heart disease, renal disease, diabetes, obesity etc. Most people know what to do, but choose not to do it. I have seen many diabetic patients who I have given multiple diet educations to, admitted for diabetic ketoacidosis and they never follow the diet recommendations. Again, education does not equal dietary changes. People have to want to make changes and be ready to do so, no amount of education is going to make people change.
@@karenbarber6800 You have to make the effort to give information and the patient needs to make the effort to use it. Not everyone will respond positively. You are getting thru to more people than you may realize. Some lives were impacted and may have made some changes.

Palm Oil? Not sure about that at all. May I respectfully invite you to search "Palm Oil" on the Nutrition Facts channel? There's some eye-opening research you may wish to consider.
Not to mention how it is destroying the planet, Coconut Oil is not very healthy either but Coconut Trees LOVE biodiversity unlike Palm Trees which literally poison the ground so that all nearby plant die.

I find pre-workout growth factors (C4 style maybe) and electrolyte availability is conducive to post-workout Recovery and Anabolism much better than a workout without them. However, the best of it all must be without a damned question about it, recombinant human stomatotrophin (human Growth Hormone) in conjunction with the protein and phytonutrients and minerals, of which Cyanocobalamine (Methylcobalamine also) must be understood as indispensible and concomitant with any Anabolic Regimentation, for neuronal atrophy and demyelination is always a protracted concern.
