- For recently released 11th album City Burials, Swedish metal heroes Katatonia fully indulged their progressive leanings while channeling the brute riff force of their past - and the result was one of the best albums of their career.
The release also marks the recording debut for Roger Öjersson, who joins Anders Nyström on six-string duties and has plenty of fresh ideas to share - as evidenced by this exclusive look at his smart, streamlined guitar rig.
Here, Öjersson shares an in-depth tour of his pedalboard, which combines a host of unsung classics and mini-pedal offerings into one of the most tonesome ’boards we’ve heard in ages.
City Burials is out now via Peaceville Records: katatoniaband....
This band deserves so much more recognition for their amazing breath-taking body of work, Thanks for this!
I’m in disbelief that this is guitar world. Looking forward to seeing more content at this quality
I keep coming back to this video. Incredible player, incredible band. This is some straight up guitar ASMR. 🎧
Exactly the same. I come back every time I get tempted to buy expensive pedals to remind me how much you can do with these mini monsters
So far out of every guitar player I´ve seen showing their pedalboard, Roger just put together this in service of his very soul and feeling. I´m impressed.
Wow that was a fantastic rundown and demo! Roger is a great player with wonderful tone.
Underrated guitar player.
What an amazing Guitarist! Katatonia is pure Art of Music.
I love Katatonia's music.
Tack för lektionen Roger! Pedalen m fjädrar, aldrig hört men verkligen spännande! Älskar att du är på gitarr och sjunger mer.
Gillar mkt Katatonia och det ni gör, keep it up😢!🤜🤛✌️
Had my Like at the neo-Hendrix intro playing.
I liked it too. What is "neo" about it?
@Jon Tron Hendrix invented this style of playing. Don't get me wrong i like the guitar playing in this video.
Perfect guitarist for Katatonia, stepping out from regular metal oriented style, going into vintage low-gain guitar sounding. Give me more of that music, please!
Wow! Nice pedalboard and I really like that Schecter!
Liked after the first seconds, lovely playing!
Coming from someone with absolute zero knowledge of guitar tech this is just pure gold of information and surpasses any paid course or anything else you might find over the internet.
Any chance you guys could also get anders from katatonia to show off what he’s using?
I believe andres still doesn't play guiar since 2009 album
@@TheShmrsh what
@@TheShmrsh what are you on, bud?
Best band out there, by a landslide
It was nice to hear more solo work on the new album.
I just played a cover of one of his solos, surprising to see that he uses a Weeping Demon as well, my favorite wah.
Really nice. Very bluesy and warm tones. Nothing like the heavier modern tones on a lot of their stuff. I was looking for some info on their current, heavier stuff but definitely dig this. Wish he went through amp and routing details. Might need to check out that wah and lead pedal. Guy has such a pleasing, satisfying playing style.
It's amusing that he comments on the size of the weeping demon because the old version of it was SO much bigger. Also the whole optical & switchless thing was being done ages before the WD by Morley and those were also gigantic.
His delivery and the way he says "to be honest" sounds exactly like Akerfeldt
Love the way he treats that piece of wood
This man is great
Katatonia top 5 favorite band for me, love this video.
Sounds awesome. Good video Guitar World.
This pedalboard has everything a player could need. Plus - nice Hendrix-esqe plaiyng, Man.
Excellent! Tour the U.S. in the safe times after the virus...and...the virus. We love y'all!
Okay, I HAVE to know what was that lick he played at the begining of the vodeo.
Excellent review!
Morley Bad Horsie wah pedals are also switchless.
... and spring loaded, but bigger.
i think most of the artist wahs are.
Tremonti
Lynch
Amott
etc.
As is the Crybaby 95Q
4:35 this one always gets me. it's so, so beautiful. :(
such tone!
why have I not heard of this guy.... going to check to Katatonia. Great Player, cool set up...
So, I take it he is only using the AMT pedal for his overdrive?? or is he using an amp?? if so, anyone know what he has??
Good place to start is the second to last album. Fall of Hearts. Amazing album.
the early years they sound like a completely different band but their last 7 or so albums have been amazing. one of my favorite bands.
Dont start with City Burials. The last 7 before this were gods of music. This new let me down. But I guess is someone died and it's about that. Hence sound and name. So I'll respect that. But blahhh
@@Drylogic_kills tbh its the best album they ever wrote. God its soo good.
I believe on tour, he uses the backline provided by the venue. All he needs is on the pedalboard...
Love katatonia
I'm in love.
Great video! I didn't know you can create big sounds using small packages. I love that Schecter Ultra ii. I would like to buy it but I don't see on the Schecter website. Thank you for posting this.
Very cool and nice dude 🤘🏻
Very cool. I don’t see an amp or an ir. is this all direct?
Sweet Phil X lixxxx
Voice cadence sounds like Christopher walken. . Also the crybaby 95q wah does the same things, the spring loaded and the boost. All of it
Reaching the sound of norwegian modernist-blues musician Terj Rypdal. But the intention of Jonas to sing like Anthony of "Anthony and the Johnsons" makes it harder and harder to pretend there would be rock vibe on albums.
New guitarist again ?
What's the tuning? It sounds wrong when I try to replicate...
C standard or dropped to A#.
Anyone know what guitar he uses
this is kdhtv in 15 years
What guitar model is this
Schecter Ultra II
@@wodenoftheangles3339 thanks!
Things are getting strange, I'm starting to worry...
8's in a very drop tuning. yep, work smarter not harder.
Gotta love these overly compressed vocals that sound 3 times louder than his playing...
V.cool my massive pedal board is a burden
Catatonia with a c
you dumb? the band is with K
