The taillight and parking light circuits are some of the more unique circuits on a vintage Honda motorcycle as compared to others out there. With wiring running through both the front and rear brake light switch, the ignition switch and the headlight switch it can seem a bit overwhelming. With a good battery, a test light, and a little bit of knowledge you can diagnose and fix any issue in this circuit. In this video, we are going to help you understand the basics of the factory Honda taillight and parking light circuit wiring and how to individually test each component to discover what is at fault and what works as it should.

Thanks for a great video. You mentioned something in your video which led me to an epiphany. The brake light worked fine. It was just on all the time because the switch for the front brake wasn’t adjusted properly when I bought it. A quick adjustment and everything works fine on my 1978 CB 750. Thanks again

Can you put the jumper cables on while the battery is still connected to the bike?

Would these wires be the same for a 1981 Honda CM400A ???

I have a CB400T that all lights work except my running tail light. I don't see that specific model listed, but will it follow the same principles? The solid brown wire seems to be bad one and it looks like the ground is black, not green unless the pervious owners confused it while wiring up this taillight.

Brenden quick question, 1 cb450t, which battery do you have in stock for this motorcycle. 2 gonna start rebuilding, what do you use in your parts washer to clean parts? Picked up a used one gonna get a lot of use. Didn't know what solution I should be running in parts washer. Thx Tim

I have a 1986 honda magna vf700c. Everything was working fine but the other morning i found my bike laying on the right side. I don't know how it got knocked over but it did. The dash light for the tail light is on all the time now. The issue I'm having is that i can either get the brake light to work or the tail light. If i disconnect the wire for the tail light the brake light works but when i plug it back in the tail light works but not the brake light and the light on the dash is on regardless. Do you have any insight as to what the problem might be? This is my first bike so I'm pretty much clueless. Also the bulb seems to be fine

Wow, this helps me understand my CB350 so much better! Just looking at the wire diagram is not the easiest thing.

What about turn signal running lights? My front turn signal lights stay on like running lights and the back ones are off but signal. Is this right?

Hello I'll send you some money if you do a video dedicated to showing how to bypass a headlight switch for an old HOND because I am having a nightmare with any 1975 GL1000 and nobody seems to have done anything about bypassing the switch on the handlebars. I had to remove it because the new start button handlebar unit did not come with the lights switch.
