    Even though it's been over 4 years since you posted, it still a relevant video. I just acquired a 2001 Kodiak in which someone had messed with the water pump. It's basically a basket case. Now I get to go through and figure what parts go back where. Thanks again...

    Kudos, Lonnie! I bought a total basket case 2000 Kodiak last year, and your videos are proving to be invaluable. My neighbors are now calling me "the wench with a wrench"!

    Finally found a video with a very good explanation and how to. Although, I'm not working on a Yamaha but a TGB 425 Blade from Taiwan. I know parts will be tough to find. I believe that the starter clutch has gone bad. The starter will spin perfect off the bike. It's very tough to pull the starter recoil. i did manage to get the left crankcase cover off thanks to your water pump video. I see lots of sludge and contaminated oil in the flywheel. I can imagine how it looks inside.

      @@LonnieJohnson1 do you have any advice for a machine that overheated and burped out coolant through the cap but once i started riding again it was fine, very odd, i didn't have much knowledge at the time to check to see if that fan was in fact working etc but im curious to know now how i can tell if its the fan or the water pump or the thermostat that is having issues, i've since flushed the rad and added new fluid and did an oil change and filter change also did the screen cleaning, the oil was pitch black.

    • @LonnieJohnson1
      @LonnieJohnson1  3 года назад +1

      It could be that it got to hot. It could also be it was over filled. You can check the fan by hooking it up to a 12v source to see if it works. If is does then you need to check the sending unit to see if it is working. You can also let it idle and see if the fan comes on. Has the fan been coming on at all?

    Good video. My Kodiak 450 pours coolant from under the bike. I bet a water pump seal has failed. When you put the new bearing in, you mentioned greasing the bearing. Did you mean to grease it like you would a wheel bearing or apply grease to the outer surface to aid in pressing it in?

    • @LonnieJohnson1
      @LonnieJohnson1  6 лет назад

      Thanks! Make sure there is grease on the bearing to help it out when it starts pumping for the first time and you can use grease to help aid in pressing it in as well.

      Thanks for the response. As it turns out, my leak is due to a punctured lower radiator hose. But I still enjoyed your vid.

    • @LonnieJohnson1
      @LonnieJohnson1  6 лет назад

      Cool, the hose leak is better than the pump leak. Of course no leak is way better.

    • @LonnieJohnson1
      @LonnieJohnson1  4 месяца назад

      Yes, but that would mean that you have a bad seal or gasket somewhere. Worst case scenario is a crack in the head or block. If you have water in the oil that is bad.

      Hmmm. Ok. Mine is getting hot when plowing with it. Light turns on, idle gets high. Too high to shift. Replaced fan temp switch this past summer. Fan is kicking on, but still gets hot. Fan is kicking on. I do hear kind of a rattle, (does this all the time and has since I bought it) but thought it was just some valve or lifter noise. Maybe water pump bearings or prop?
