SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell On Elon Musk And The Future Of Space Launches | CNBC
Gwynne Shotwell is one very sharp cookie. She is a fantastic leader and buisnesswoman. Probably the best hire he has ever made.
I bet he wishes he could have found someone for Tesla like that. Maybe he could afford a vacation if he had.
She’s great.
Elon knows how to rally fans behind a vision -- but Gwynne, besides being a great engineer, has the social skills required to convince sceptics. In my opinion, he should utilize that for both companies: let her handle the tough interviews and shareholder meetings, so he can focus on the factory floors and the tech talks.
KappaW DID YOU JUST ASSUME HER GENDER?
She looks very exhausted though :(
SHE ACTUALLY SAID BIG EFFING ROCKET HAHAHA.
I figured a news reporter woulda called it by its alternate "Big Falcon Rocket".. Lol that's gold
Austin Carleton I started cracking up too!
Big F***ing Rocket. Because that's what Elon called it the first time. But yes I agree she could have been more precise and done this better lol
Yeah gold, she actually used it's real name and not it's politically correct name 🤣
Starship/SuperHeavy _is_ a f*cking big rocket
It's Big Fat Rocket to make it less sound bad. 🤣🤣🤣
7:06
"I'm not sure you're the target audience."
What a burn!
burntntntnt
He was ooofed
Hahahahaha, you smack him!
apply water to the burn area
He doesn't wanna go to Mars? I'd go in a heartbeat lol. Elon where u at?!?
An applause to Morgan (the reporter), she made good questions and she seems very informed.
Gwynne is such a legend. I wonder how many girls she has inspired to become engineers so far.
Two :-)
Obs Well she’s not even an engineer
She was trained from an engineering background. You can't manage operations or sell anything to your customer without having a lot of technical understanding. I think even the people sweeping the floor at SpaceX (especially the factory floor) are trained engineers. You can't do anything in there with jeopardizing operations without having some understanding what's going on.
I'm wondering how many girls have been inspired by toilet paper....
To circle Uranus and eliminate the Cling-ons....
Howard Lee you can sell anything if you know how to sell something. A good salesman isn't selling you the product, they are selling you emotion they attach to it
I've said for years the companies were all interconnected around Elon's plan to colonize mars as every aspect is needed: solar, battery, electric vehicles, tunnels, rockets, ai
Jimbodiah Tesla‘s batteries are already used on the Falcon 9 and the Dragon spacecraft. Electric trucks could be a great way to move around stuff on Mars.
:) ;)
Jimbodiah It’s beautiful, this comment, connection is beautiful.
Ooh that's very smart - Neuralink would also come in very handy for the first colonizers of Mars, they wouldn't have an internet to communicate with each other and access data when they're out exploring the planet
“I don’t wanna go to mars”.....And no one asked you to LOL
U MadBro yo and we can't wait for you to
TheFamousMockingbird Well, you are called MOCKINGbird for nothing lol 😊
Yo SpaceX serves a larger humanitarian purpose than simply "I wanna go to Mars"...population size, finite resources and climate change all dictate that we have to start spreading out eventually
pls tell her to give me her ticket then
You are not getting it!
Cheers for the interview, do you have a longer version? Hats off for the "Effing" :)
Yeah, we all know F isn't for Falcon :)
I am interested which way the news organisations will go with it as time goes on. Full un-censored on the BBC would put a smile on my face : )
I love the way Gwynne says Big "Falcon" Rocket when she gives talks. She doesn't actually air quote the word but you can just HEAR the air quotes and see it in her smirk. God I love that woman.
Mars rockets, tunnel boring, electric vehicle, advanced batteries,solar-all intertied for use on Mars.
hope for fusion on mars not as much light for solar as here. but if we have to make do.
I just realized that watching this video. It's all been premeditated for several years...right in front of our faces. It's wicked cool gaw'dammit!
Include the indoor farming business of Elon's brother.
The brothers are like the creators in the series Westworld. They will get things done.
@@anuragjoshi47 True. In no time they'll be working on 3D printing and AI technologies as well.
very professional reporter!
and smart and hot
Yes her questions and summerisation we well presented and thought out. It's a shame the news casters asking her questions after the interview plagued the segment with their small minded opinions and comments.
I don't fancy reporters in general, but I totally agree on this one..
"Mr trump! Mr trump! Is it true your a racist?" Said every big news reporter in 2018
Brennan is not long for CNBC I don’t think. She seemed more interested in facts about spacex than tearing at Elon schedule with his successful Tesla company as the other two studio bozos were interested in.
Sad, but that is how corporate news seems to work. Tesla spends no money on advertising which is huge for these businesses. On the other hand, oil and old auto represents huge chunks of their revenues. In the early 1990s in Social Studies we talked about how companies that did not advertise on TV often faced unfair news stories... That stuff is just openly done these days and aggressively so... Gotta do some research these days to know reality. And, go walk among the people, as they say...
Morgan: thank you for clarifying the presenter's (Carl's) misinterpretation of Gwynne's comment re distribution of Elon's time between Spacex and Tesla.
I thank you for your ethical honesty, you will go far...
That was a good dodge of his dig at Elon. Seems like the guy might have a short position in Tesla the way he makes a comment like that.
Whos the bald guy? Dude just became my least favorite guy.. "WHo wants to go to mars".... " thats not intersting"....."But those broadband satellites though, now those are interesting."
Seriously... You must live a hell of a simple life to think a broadband satellite is more interesting than going to mars..
haha i know right.
Elon for president
He is born in sout africa so he is not allowed to be US president
United World President
But still
obedient sheep
Elon can do a lot more good where he is, at the head of private industry. He said himself that being a president is like being the captain of a ship with a very small rudder.
5:54 did she say " BFR which stands for Big F-ing Rocket " hahahhah!!
Ali yes....
Broccoli_32 well it stands for Big Falcon Rocket in real
abcz, it's original in house name really was Big F*@$!ng Rocket. They made the official name Big Falcon Rocket and still smirk when they reference it because we all know what they really mean. :)))
Elon was a gamer in his younger years.... His favorite game is deus ex and obviously he played Doom because of the BFR / BFG reference. (there was a Big Effing Gun in doom).
I was surprised the lady doing this news report got it right.
Honesty & brilliance always comes through in her interviews.
You know Mars isn't for everyone. Some people want to go there and some don't,it's really up to personal preference.
15Stratos but it’s a step forward for mankind so it’s a necessary
SSVida. But is it a step forward? Is it necessary?
Was the Moon a challenge? Yes. Did we meet it? Yes. Was it necessary, ehhhh maybe... Curiosity was sated. We stopped going. We built nothing there. We went back to LEO which is exactly what the USAF and The Soviet Air Force wanted all along.
If we as a species NEED to go to Mars, let's have a worldwide vote on the matter. If anyone goes it will cost the Earth a great deal of resources as $$$ equal resource. Also THE WORLD should all pay for it, contribute and share in the accomplishments. I think it is quite arrogant that we in the US or Russian Republic or China declare that we are doing these things for the world, without first checking with,,, THE WORLD.
I bet we'll be surprised at how many want to go. It may end up being not that difficult to recruit people, especially if early flights are successful.
It's not in the best interest of the super powers to ask permission from the rest of the world every time we use massive amounts of resources. US/China/Russia already use way more energy without asking. Going to mars is but a drop in the ocean given our current rates of consumption. We should really be asking permission if its okay to continue burning oil and eating steak.
For Goodness Ache. Then we should ask. There is a UN. Maybe a UN resolution supporting such an effort would be as close as we get to "asking everyone". I know the UN is the national elites, but it is closer to "everyone" than asking hipsters, American industrialists and Sci Fi nerds. Heck we could have a simple pew poll just in the US/Canada/Mexico and Western Europe and you may be surprised by the lack of interest.
I've recently been following weekly what NASA publishes about actual experiments on the ISS. It costs about $7,000,000 USD for each productive crew manhour. Now I know they're not always super busy, but in the last few weeks that is a lot of resources to: water some space plants, do a school video field trip and check their own vitals. I know they got some new experiments delivered this week. I'll keep watching, but in the last two months, I've not been impressed.
Really impressed by this woman. The kindness, steadiness and brilliance shines through her eyes.
I hear she does an amazing job with the company. She must be the stuff seeing how much Elon has entrusted her with, considering this is his primary goal.
Watched a few videos on this lady and found out she is one of the main driving force behind SpaceX. Salutes.
Love you Gwynne! Looking forward to SpaceX's first human flight.
Gwynne is such a legend, so proud of you ! You've inspired so many to follow SpaceX ! Go, Falcon-Heavy & Starship. Love you and all the 7k Employees at Space Exploration Technologies, Inc :) Sending LOVE & Respect from Canada Eh ! to You'All...
The more news about the most important things in our species future the better. I've been astounded at how little play space gets. In 1000 years there is not a celebrity today that will be worth remembering, but the companies and ideas that helped us become interplanetary will have dates that are taught and names that are remembered. And no one will remember if they were on time or 18 months late, but that we cared enough to dream and make things happen for the species.
Great interview
This lady is so smart. No attitude, human and brilliant. More powerful people like her I wish
It was an excellent interview.
7:01 "I am not sure you are the target audience" ... hahahahahaha!!! brilliant!
At first I thought the reporter was smug then I realized around 3:00 that she's honestly just super excited to be there and trying her best to hide it.
Thank you Gwynne. You are an amazing Lady. We can learn a lot from you.
Not asking for much but can Elon run the world??
Arguably, he's already influencing it (or the 21st century, anyway) more than any other living human.
He's busy.
I wouldn't mind helping him run it...
Maybe not, but he can run Mars.
"Elon" was the title of the leader of Mars (like President for US) in a novel written in 1952 and published in 2006. Spooky huh.
Shotwell ... couldn't have had a better name.
hieroglyph321 I don't know...Landwell would be pretty appropriate too!
1:32 someone definitely shot well.
life is enigmatic
Can they not use facetime for audio? will help avoid the long pauses
Kudos to Ms. Brennan for a surprisingly good interview. Well researched. Not the usual fluff piece.
7:05 ... "I dont want to go to mars ... blah blah"
guess who will be the first in line, when we learn, that an asteriod is headed our way to destroy the earth ...
Cling ons ?
Very down to earth Ladys.. insightful and very clear vision..stayed on topic.and no π ups circle talk!
Morgan I love you.
There is no doubt that Gwynne and Elon are amongst the Planet's best business leader partnerships
Gwynne Shotwell is a legend, Period! 💯
I want someone like her to be in leading role in Tesla... helping Elon with operations and marketing...
This was very interesting to watch. I look forward to seeing how SpaceX and Tesla Motors continue to advance. There is an interest in colonizing Mars, but that peak of interest in the common people will likely only come when they are made aware of it being a possibility. Right now, many in my area have no idea what SpaceX is, that there is a second space race happening, or that Mars could become a colony in the next century.
Also Gwynne Shotwell is an amazing leader and with her leadership next to Elon Musk, SpaceX will be great.
I love Gwynne
I admire this woman🙂
Elon is humanity's hero
Amazing and wonderful! So exciting!💕
correction: BFR is short for Big Falcon Rocket
Vaughn Melson not it's not, but you can call it that for the kids tho.
Kes google BFR when you have time
Vaughn Melson don't matter what Google says. I'm telling you what elon calls it. People change it to falcon to make it PG. You need to checkout his introduction video. The report didn't just make that up. Either name is fine no correct needed.
Vaughn Melson You don't have to lie when talking to your kids about SpaceX's BFR Mars-colonization architecture.
Yes, BFR stands for "Big F---ing Rocket." But there's also a family-friendly variant of the acronym, and it's coming into wider and wider use - as evidenced by SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell's remarks Thursday (Oct. 5) at the first meeting of the newly resurrected National Space Council.
www.space.com/38393-spacex-bfr-mars-colony-rocket-name.html
He has said Big F-ing Rocket a few times. Also Tesla Semi is BAMF
"BFR short for Big eFfin Rocket" 😂
I feel like Elon is behind all of these names. They're great.
So great to see women being pros! Both of them! Absolutly inspiring!!!!
Very impressed with the reporter, she is not swayed - knows what was said and stands by it. Kudo's
AND she knows the real meaning of BFR ;)
I am part of the 10%
I think the reporter has great respect for Gwynne Shotwell
She is Hot
Because her air conditioning isn't working. :-)
She's half Vulcan....and...Only goes out with Cling-ons.....
Agreed gwynne shotwell is hot but show respect.
Gwynne Shotwell gives me a raging brainer.
@@pricelessppp it's a compliment sun shine
Gwen Shotwell is awesome! To me she is just as important as Elon Musk! Shes also not bad to look at! Very pretty aldy ! The engineering degree makes her a catch! Elon Musk knows what hes doing and shes proof! Way to go Gwen! With you in charge Mars is not a problem to colonize!
Flying to Mars is like sailing to Tahiti just a few hundred years ago. First it's unthinkable, then it's a dangerous adventure, then a long voyage and today it's a commercial flight.
Awesome interview! Regarding going to Mars, if I was younger, yes. Let's be realistic about it, it will take years from base to outpost to a fully developed or self sustained Martian society.
She is an amazing business lady and engineer
That comment you made about the Big Falcon Rocket was very inappropriate.
Elon with the dad jokes. Big Effin Rocket. So corny, it cracks me up.
more of a gamer joke though ;)
5:52 Big Effing Rocket :D - you´re my ma´am :) Btw Gwynne is a space rockstar!
How does President Shotwell not blink for so long lol
Big F'ing Rocket quoted on public television..... lol
Smartest engineer on the planet
That blonde interview woman reminds me of Chloe from Smallville
Yes!
@@Ayooluwaigandan Yes she did
Please put out all the footage of the SpaceX visit!
Wow innovation. So cool 👍
6:19 So they're making warp cores now? Wow, tings are really shaping up over there!
Workhorse.
Morgan😍
Morgan!
She says Big Ffffing Rocket and I love it
OMG CNBC, pay attension, "He spends roughly half time in SpaceX and roughly half time on Tesla. That VARIES depending on what's HAPPENING in either company".
Eat your hearts out feminists. May she live long and prosper🖖💙
Morgan Brennan: The first reporter on Mars!
Kudos! Please accelerate your broadband development.
Gwynne Shotwell is a badass.
I would go to Mars tonight!!! We are all going to die anyway, I'd be down with having the title "first human to die on Mars".
Shouldn't you be more focus on the living part while on Mars?
Scientists or Astronauts will get there first. Probably get first civilian on Mars, if you're rich.
Jaxvidstar not necessarily. I'm 28 & have an illness called Sickle Cell Anemia. I'm already past my life expectancy, so I would basically be choosing to give myself as a research subject to possibly help the advancement of science & medicine.
Edward Kenway as you've shown to be an example of, there's a difference between science and stupidity.
The first Cling on to die on Mars ?
Why channels like you always choose to make fun of or criticize every positive person?
Radiation.
Manned spaceflight, yey. I hope they will get the falcon heavy human rated besides the falcon 9 block 5.
It seems focus will be on the BFR after Falcon 9 getting human rated.
Right now they scrub if the weather is not right, so can someone help me understand how they will do everyday launches in the future? Is BFR being built to withstand weather?
Koppakzz Unless there are extreme winds or a storm, it should be able to launch.
falcon 9 is VERY long and not very wide (70m x 3.7m)almost noodle like, this makes it more susceptible to strong winds bending it, BFR on the other hand will be much fatter (106m x 9m roughly) so it will not be influenced by the same weather conditions as it is going to be stronger and less bendy.
Go space!!!!Everybody is ready to go to Mars and ride the BFR rocket!🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀😎👍👏👍👍👍
5:55 finally someone said it :D
Gywnne Shotwell is a Goddess!
I love you
In Musk we trust
Did the journalist really say it?
".....BFR, short for Big F&*#ing Rocket"
Haha, Really, haha, last time I heard Elon mention it he said Big Falcon Rocket...
🤣, so.... what is it? Falcon or F%ing ?? 🤣😂
the answer is actually both.
Elon used to love video games and in Doom there was a BigFuckingGun. the BFR is a reference to BFG. how much truth is behind this ? idk but its extremely easy to believe and kinda fits him if you ask me ... his favorite game was deus ex by the way..
to the public= big falcon
for elon and spacex = big effing
i think its safe to say we all have inside jokes and such.... why shouldnt they.
Even if it was only 1/10000 people who wanted to go to mars, that's still 700k people.
And to think that it's 10% which is 700 million people!!!
Hmm, let's see, average temperature on Mars -70 below zero, no water, no rivers or oceans, no breathable atmosphere, no plants animals or life. 60 mph dust storms that last for weeks. Yup, sounds like a really good time.
@Les Morgan Hmm, let's see... underground bases with advanced plastics and transparent aluminum for windows in their above ground facilities that are vacuum sealed and has their own air supply (think bio dome). It's got enough materials to create the rocket fuel back to earth. It also has tons of resources and a lot of water frozen in the ice caps. A sizeable magnetic shield positioned in the L2 part of Mars would be sufficient to deflect the solar wind and is possible with current technology. The first steps would be small, yes, but with time it could become much more sustainable and habitable to human life.
@@VerisimilitudeDude
-Yah, and ALL those materials will be delivered via chemical rockets that have a 9 to 1 fuel to payload ratio, on a 7 month, one way journey, with absolutely no profit motive for investors. Ok then....
@@lesmorgan5865 They will be lined up out the door and around the block to go. There's a lot less purpose climbing Everest and people keep climbing even though some die. The small percentage of pioneers are robust. You can bet some will die going to Mars, but that won't stop them from going.
Now SpaceX is now worth $100 Billion!!! 💗
2:42, it's official, Drake works for spacex
She said big effing rocket with a serious face. Maybe she heard somewhere and took it literally lol
Female reporter said BFR was "Big effing Rocket" .... It's stands for "Big Falcon Rocket"
I read down about 12 different types of comments and listened again as I didn't see another comment stating this.
go space x tks for youre visions all
more of the reporter please
This reporter lady has a wonderful / interested / honorable / inquisitive approach - Gwen Shotwell is an excellent leader and partner for SpaceX - Hooray. Gwen

During an appearance on Monday at the Air Force Association’s annual symposium, Shotwell was thrown a question she said she had never heard before: “Would SpaceX launch military weapons?”
BFR stands for Big Falcon Rocket not “Big Fn’ Rocket” 😂
Joe MaMa Not according to Elon. Falcon is the politically correct way of saying it :)
I love the RR crossing in the background of the opening shot.
Let's continue to support energy-efficient rail
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlas_Shrugged
5:54 big f**king rock lmao woops
I think Elon is building a whole ecosystem to colonize mars. SpaceX to go there, Tesla to build the Cybertruck which can be used for Mars, and "The Boring Company" to dig tunnels for the Cybertruck on Mars.
And tesla bots, then use neuralink to control them probably
I love that Morgan said Big F'ing Rocket. Lol! I think SpaceX realised they can't keep on calling it that, so they renamed it Starship. I prefer BFR tho. :-D
All Musk projects are interlinked to create a civilization on Mars ,He is inventing on Earth and perfecting it for Mars
You know CNBC you can call bfr big Falcon rocket
Yep, that was cringe.
What? That reporter calling it the “Big Effing Rocket” was an awesome acknowledgement of what the “F” actually stands for!
Not cringe
The original name was big F***ing rocket
as Pepper Potts is to tony stark
thus Gwynne Shotwell is to Elon Musk
