FYI, just announced: "Carlos Santana is working with Eric Clapton and Derek Trucks on a spaghetti western-inspired instrumental album" Initially I wasn't that interested because of the "spaghetti western" part of it but if Derek Trucks & Carlos Santana are involved them I'm in...
Thanks, Pete. I have been a massive fan of the early material. And since "Moonflower," I found his releases to be hit or miss. I didn't hear much of the late 1990s material. But I am interested in this one based on your review.
Hi Pete! OMG dig your Captain Beyond t-shirt!!!! That particular album is one of my desert island albums. Bobby Caldwell is a beast behind the kit on that record. Oh boy gotta get me a t-shirt like this.
Great band, I love the first one, Dawn Explosion & Sufficiently Breathless. To me a song like "Armworth" was an absolute blueprint for later Southern rockers like Molly Hatchet, if you didn't know who it was you could easily think it was by them. Also numbers like "Myopic Void", sort of hypnotic southern rock but also proggy, I hear The Outlaws & others in this tune. Great 70's band
Greetings Pete,✌Thanks for the review and recomendation, Santana's previous album Africa Speaks was suprisingly very good!!! Some really great riffs and solos from Carlos on that album, -So Yes I'll get Blessings and Miracles-Cheers Pete.
For the "vocal" Santana era definitely, their best singers probably (and the songs on those albums were really good too, plus Carlos' guitar is still featured just enough)
So this is the 26th Santana album (!), and another "collaboration" with Carlos teaming up with some famous friends. However unlike Smooth this one put a bit more emphasis on his guitar where it should always be. The band has had some great singers over the years but the guitars are always the main draw for me. Rob Thomas should never overshadow Santana's playing. Here there are 4 songs I really like a lot that illustrate this: "Santana Celebration" (hello "Oye Como Va"), "Rumbalero" (great wah work from the master), "Song For Cindy" (totally in line with prior inspiration instrumentals like "Europa") & "Ghost Of Future Pull II" (atmospheric straight out of Borboletta with some fiery leads reminiscent of Hendrix at times). These take me back to 70's classic Santana. Rob Thomas, who I don't mind I think he did a fine job on "Smooth", is back & joining him are the likes of Kirk Hammett, Corey Glover (Living Colour), Chick Corea & Steve Winwood. Carlos self-produced this - nice job. Wife Cindy Blackman drums (BTW her solo Give The Drummer Some is really good & even better than this one) I could frankly do without a few tunes like "Move", ""Break", "She's Fire" & "Breathing Underwater". This album could've been much stronger if those tracks had been more guitar-oriented but overall I do think it's getting back to some heavier vibes. Overall I'd rate this one somewhere between 3.5 & 4 out of 5, so maybe a 3.7. It could've easily been a 4 or higher with a few tweaks (lose the "contemporary" elements as Pete called them - I'm not a fan of those either) & less vocals/even more guitar, maybe next time!
The new Doobies record is really good, just posted my review comments over on that episode...I do like this one too though. To me Santana basically can't do any wrong. There are at least 4 solid songs on this one that feature Carlos' leads to great effect, and several others that are at least pretty good. Not a classic Santana album for sure, but not bad at all. I'm not sorry I bought it
@@seaoftranquilityprog I like the Doobies record a bit more but it's pretty close. Like I said this Santana album could've easily been much better with a few minor tweaks. I'm really glad The Doobies are back & sounding strong! One of my fave all time bands
Great review, but from a producers point of view I would have liked to hear more cowbell on "Mother Yes"...
Blessings and Miracles is must-have material for all Santana fans. Love to be in Las Vegas to hear these tracks live.

Got it on order Pete ! Thank You

This one sounds really interesting . I can't wait to hear it . Thanks !
This Santana album sounds great! I can't wait to hear it, thanks Pete.
Thanks for the review, Pete. Love the tee shirt by the way.
Are there sea of tranquility shirts available?
We've had SoT shirts available for well over a year. Link is above and on every video in the description.

@@wolf1977 Couldn’t agree more!!!
Going to have to get this one

as much as i dig the later santana stuff,i still love the alex and greg walker years the best

I recently heard this, and I must say, damn, this is the best Santana album in many years.
This album has that 70’s feel on some of those songs..pretty cool album…
Great stuff Pete I have been waiting for this review 👍👍
My favorite songs are:
Santana Celebration
Joy
America for Sale
Yes but also "Rumbalero" , "Song For Cindy" & ""Ghost Of Future Pull II", all fiery guitar numbers that take me back!

Sounds good,I’ve kind of lost interest in Carlos a little.must check it out
Will you review el camino by the black keys? 10th anniversary edition is out!
Not a fan, sorry.
I did hear this new one and his the one he did in 2019. I think he should go back to his old band and do some more melodic stuff.
Santana doing a rap/hip-hop track? Just because it can be done, doesn’t mean it should be done!
We need an episode of Hudson Valley Squares on guilty pleasure albums.
We've already done that.
Is listening to Santana a guilty pleasure to you? If so I'm guilty!
OK album nothing special
might be one to download the rockier / funky material and avoid the poppy material as, from your review, seems a little too diverse for my tastes
If you ever get a chance i recomend the metal bands ambush and traveler. Just thought i'd give some suggestions
Yeah I think I'll pass, gonna get the new one by the Doobie Brothers instead

I'd argue that this album might be stronger than the Doobies one. Both pretty solid.

Guess what I am? I’m a steel monkey!!! 🐵🐵🐵
Sadly Santana will never be able to match what they did in the 70s, I will check this album but I most likely would not be impressed
Some of the songs do bring me back to that time but you'll probably never hear them get back to that exact form from the 70's
This has become my favorite segment, other than anything with Martin Popoff!!!
