yeah sorry let me just undo years of childhood trauma. Thanks for curing me! /s For real tho, I am still in the process of sussing out what is a mask and what is my personality. They've become meshed with each other so much over the years that it's gonna take a long time to unwind it all.
@Hannah Klein Well here’s how you can tell it’s masking: Burnout and tiredness after, as well as feeling like you’re not being yourself. As someone who also happened to have a horrible childhood as well, I try to refuse masking because it adds on more to that already hide mental burden. Again, masking is really unhealthy, and in fact, there are some parents who force their kids to mask for their own abliest reasons, which is sickening (like my mom does)
@@ILOVEFRIES-q2y i agree with this! But I think what they were saying is it's not that easy to just stop masking, especially if you've been doing it for so many years. This is something I relate to a lot.
The wedding day one is perfect! A wedding should be most enjoyable for the married couple. For some reason I assumed weddings are expected to have lots of guests and noisy attributes.
At my wedding we had a break after the ceremony to have something to eat in another room (the church's library) and something to drink before moving onto group photos with the guests. Then we left for photos, had some snacks and beverages with our video and photo crew and then went back the reception. Ended it early because, we had waited till marriage and well, we were DONE waiting. Some dancing, but not a lot.
I just learned today that my mom considered the way I played with toys to be a good sign of development not realizing that I was autistic. She thought lining them up/organizing them/repetition was good, and I think it's interesting that she saw it that way!
I can understand why she would see it that way though. She may have seen it as a sign of development in terms of organization at a young age and thought it was good
6:35 warmed my heart so much! I love how the mom accepted the text-to-speech as equally valid as talking and respected her son's desire to not have too long of a hug!
so i know a common autistic trait is avoiding eye contact, but does anyone just like stare into people’s souls so they think you’re paying attention? (am trying to figure out if i have autism in addition to my adhd, and i figure its a good idea to ask autistic ppl about their experiences in addition to my own research)
In the past I tried staring deeply into a person's nose. Eye contact is the last straw for me. I'm already listening to a person, trying desperately to tune out background noise. I have to gather all those syllables into words, then figure out what the words together mean as a sentence. Finally I have to figure out if that sentence contains things I'm supposed to remember, or if it's just stupid and needs a rebuttal. Trying to figure out eye contact during all that and I'm just screwed.
Eye contact feels like spears are being priced through your eyes. I only look at them if I really need to. Other than that feeling I do it unconsciously. I thought I was actually going a good job at making eye contact until I was told that I still look at the person, and not their eyes. I was crushed. I thought I was doing so well looking normal.
eye contact is physically impossible for me. even looking anywhere close to the eyes - I have to look at something else other than the person a lot of the time
Yeah, totally. I feel like it's a sort of 'swinging to the other extreme' for me. I know I suck at eye contact so when I try to do it I end up doing it too hard, because it's hard to figure out where that "correct" neurotypical middle is. Sometimes I'll try to count to three and then look away, but that doesn't always work because I find it's hard to actually deeply listen _and_ perform correct eye contact at the same time.
Me and my mom both being autistic is honestly such a relief. I was dxd first but always felt like she understood. As she got her dx we knew why. It's just nice to be able to say how I feel and someone understands, especially when its a parent. She always supports me bcus she knows how it felt to be unsupported growing up.
Dude that is a wedding I would actually go to. My brother is still mad at me, 4 years later, because after the ceremony at his wedding I spent the whole night walking around outside listening to music, instead of in the like 1000 square foot building with 200 people and loud music and crazy lights.

Omg, the touching textures you don't like one. When I touch something I don't like the feeling of, I can feel it FOR SO LONG afterward. I had to take care of my nephew’s bearded dragon once and had to use a washcloth to pick her up and wrap her up in a towel to hold and cuddle her. I would accidentally touch her and freak out and get tingles all over my body...even violently shaking my hand couldn't get rid of it It's the same thing with people touching me
Oml they didn't diagnose me with autism until age 10 even though I didn't speak full sentences on my own until age five, had meltdowns, and had first sensory issues at age 3 or 4 (I only know that because my mother told me she went to the store when me and my brother were in school due to me screaming and crying throughout the store due to sensory overload)
Hi you guys. I need some advice from autistics if that’s ok. I believe I am an undiagnosed autistic and I would like to get diagnosed, but if I tell my parents I’m afraid that they will see me differently (I will no longer be there daughter, I will be “the autistic one” “the daughter with autism” and they might not believe I have the mental capacity to live on my own or get married one day because of their possible biases against autistics) idk what to do. Should I get diagnosed and risk them seeing me differently or should I get diagnosed when I’m older and not tell them? (For reference I’m 16 and have believe I was autistic ever since I was 12ish but before that I always knew I felt different to the people around me.)
Get diagnosed right now. There are certain things that an early diagnosis can help you with and your parents too. For starters autism and other neurodivergenteces often look like one another and can be mistaken. (Not saying you do but it could be a possibility you have other things as well or something different) Diagnoses will give you accommodation that you should have had already under the Americans with disabilities act, you don’t know how they’ll act and trust me autistic people aren’t good and predicting how neurotypicals will react to something. But even if they do a proper diagnosis is still worth it, it will help you so much in life. If you’re nervous stim for a bit before and after you tell them it helps calms down the nerves. I hope this helps you and good luck!
@@cosmic_seabunny thanks I’m still not diagnosed but I’m in the prossess of trying to find a therapist which will help me thanks for the advice! I might try to tell the therapist that I would like a diagnosis after meeting them. Thanks 😊
I have a question how do you find out if you were misdiagnosed with autism? Is it more likely to be misdiagnosed at an early age or an older age i was diagnosed when i was 6 and a lot of things have changed since then like the tag in my shirt or the seam on my socks dont bother me anymore can autistic traits change or do they stay the same? This question has been driving me crazy and i need an answer or i’ll go nuts and i dont want to get a diagnosis again because i hear they are expensive and if i am autistic it would have been a waste of money but if im not autistic then i’ll probably be very sad

When doing my homework my mom said I probably have autism cause I fidget and overthink things My friends also do say I have it cuz I don't wear shoes and stress out alot
Since a lot of people in the comments are autistic or suspect they are... please help me with a question I have. I highly suspect I'm autistic, but I'm not 100% sure. I never did the tip toe thing, but I ALWAYS walked on my heels, like all the time, like, my-toes-would-not-touch-the-ground kinda walking, I learned not to do this because it ended up wearing out some of my favorite shoes, but when I'm around the house I sometimes walk like this still. Could this be because I might be autistic? I started suspecting this because my dad has some very clear indicators of the neurotype, and my cousin received an aspergers diagnosis when he was very young. (I know it's just the 'tism now, but that was his actual diagnosis at the time)
I dont know if I'm autistic (I don't struggle in social situations as much as most autistic people) but relate to almost every other symptom so it could just be anxiety, but yes I have pica too. :)
I am a little confused about the autism test shown at 5:25. I took it out of curiously and some questions are „other have told me that I do such and such.“ Other people haven’t told me, but I know that I do it, so what do I select then???
Nah because my parents make me and my sibling do the autism walk every year and the whole time I’m have a overstimulated meltdown. And so is my brother who was diagnosed at three, and me who isn’t diagnosed and probably will never be. This disappointed me when I started to realize autism speaks was a peace of shit, anyways trying to convince my dad to not take me to the walk this year so I don’t die.
I know I don’t have autism cause my friends and family say I can’t possibly, but it’s weirding me out that I relate to so much stuff and understand it. I am going to get tested for ADHD so maybe that’s it...
You could still be autistic. So often when people think of autism, they have a predetermined notion, and often they are thinking of various co-morbidities. They may also have no idea that it’s a spectrum. So make sure to tell whoever is working with your diagnosis that you suspect autism (which often goes hand-in-hand with ADHD)
*MASKING* I did the autism tests 2 weeks ago and scored high. One question was "do you repeat what you hear on the TV?" I answered NO, thinking "of course NOT" Yesterday I realised that I do it ALL THE TIME and I was totally unaware of it - I cram the words into a question or a statement to MASK the fact I am doing it. I was so good at masking it, I didn't know I was doing it.
On that last one, You're lucky your mom will let you do that. Mine will talk, out loud, in a manner that seems like she is talking to herself, but expect me to listen and respond, and frequently gets mad at me when I don't giver her the validation because it can instantly stress me out to respond to nonsensical information. I'm pretty sure she has ADHD with a touch of the 'tism, while I am very 'Tistic with a lot of HSP and a touch of the ADHD. Her presence is frequently so very toxic for me - Actual Boomer with little in the way of breaks or understanding or consistency.
did you know its possible to get negative scores on the mbti test? i didnt, until recently, and it said i have negative sympathy. (it wasnt even like -5% orr anything, it was around -27% to -30%)
how ? ( and please knows that all autistic people experience the autism spectrum differently. some may have a specific symptom and some may not for example. but that does not mean they are faking. thank you for reading and understanding. )

Thank you for 2:08 and and 2:42. I am learning so much as someone who is older (23 to be exact).
I love the sound grab (if that's the term) from "The Rings of Akhaten" [Dr. Who 7-7] for the Going Up Against Autism Speaks clip!!!!! That was so brilliant!
ohmygod i saw on the thumbnail something about rockets??? space??? my special interest??? clicked.
The last video is so relatable for me 😂
I literally just epitomized this at my dad's side's Christmas event. Eventually I just went to the back room to hang out with the cat because it took too much energy to even stay in the room
Yeah. At least the cat wouldn't ask stupid questions and tell silly stories which you had no interest in.
Animals are way better at communication than humans.
@@ozgebengu978 i know right? He came over and sniffed my hand, so I started to pet him. When he decided he'd had enough, he walked away a bit. He's usually very skittish as well, and it made it even better. No words spoken, but we had a complete agreement. People are never so simple, and it wears me out
@@shadowfox933 sometimes I think the cats are the autistic society of their animal world.
@@shadowfox933 I did the exact same thing. A family friend was throwing a Christmas party at their house. I just hung out with their cats the whole time because I was feeling to awkward in that social environment.
I would accidentally touch her and freak out and get tingles all over my body...even violently shaking my hand couldn't get rid of it
It's the same thing with people touching me
5:23 most relatable video ever. The problem is though, when you spend so long masking, how do you unmask?
I relate to like every single thing lmao. I used to think it didn’t affect me anymore
That last one gave a big chuckle! I am like super animated at work and then I get home and sometimes hardly speak 🤣
@6:24 kept going back just to listen to the pop.
5:03 where can one acquire that hoodie? I want it! It looks so large and comfy!
I’m not sure if I’m autistic but I have every symptom in all of these videos but my parents say that I just have adhd
I find it kind of funny that the stim/dance song in this video is the song that i used to sing when i was a little kid.
The wedding was so beautiful
Is anyone gonna talk about jumping when you’re happy????
I do that ! :D
I’m sorry for the long comment
Thanks 😊
@@ilikemuffins7170 Good luck! ^^
When I had my vedding, I had earplugs In. Had no idea It was autism. I was like blind to all the signs, lol. I just made up my adaptarions. Though lawnmower sound sends me to a meltdown now. I wonder why. Also have multiple kinds of eaplugs and ear protection things, thatvI got for work or shooting, and used in other settings a lot, lol

whats the song at 4:16 ?
i really wanna listen to it

OK I'm genuinely curious, when you feel like crying does anyone else pinch or do something to feel pain to stop from crying?
I do that too!
4:03 wait oh my gosh, so y’all know the classic pic of him sticking out his tongue? Is that like an autistic thing bc I ALWAYS stick out my tongue for pics!

where can i take the autism spectrum test?
You can go to a hospital or a mental health centre or book one online :)
Bro I’m diagnosed with ADHD and I can’t tell if I’m also autistic or it’s just my ADHD
Ask your doctor/therapist/etc. I'm getting tested for both, and you might have both too. Good luck!
When doing my homework my mom said I probably have autism cause I fidget and overthink things
My friends also do say I have it cuz I don't wear shoes and stress out alot

YES FR
Is it only me who does this? “I’m hungryrryyrryryryryryryruryrryyryyrryryruryryrury” that’s how I would chat to my mom
(I know it's just the 'tism now, but that was his actual diagnosis at the time)
I Just got diagnosed today :D
Awesome!
Omg so happy for you! Was it a difficult process? I’m curious what it takes to get a diagnosis.
@@Bumblexo when i was 6 i got a diagnosis and they just made me play with those expensive realistic plastic farm animal toys ; - ;
That last one is so me
How many aspies have pica? Is that a common thing? Cause i thought it was just me.
I dont know if I'm autistic (I don't struggle in social situations as much as most autistic people) but relate to almost every other symptom so it could just be anxiety, but yes I have pica too. :)

I am a little confused about the autism test shown at 5:25.
I took it out of curiously and some questions are „other have told me that I do such and such.“
Other people haven’t told me, but I know that I do it, so what do I select then???
Nah because my parents make me and my sibling do the autism walk every year and the whole time I’m have a overstimulated meltdown. And so is my brother who was diagnosed at three, and me who isn’t diagnosed and probably will never be. This disappointed me when I started to realize autism speaks was a peace of shit, anyways trying to convince my dad to not take me to the walk this year so I don’t die.
what is autism walk
are you and your bro okay now ? and does your dad knows now how bad autism speaks id ?
I know I don’t have autism cause my friends and family say I can’t possibly, but it’s weirding me out that I relate to so much stuff and understand it. I am going to get tested for ADHD so maybe that’s it...
I relate as well and I'm also getting tested for ADHD
You could still be autistic. So often when people think of autism, they have a predetermined notion, and often they are thinking of various co-morbidities. They may also have no idea that it’s a spectrum. So make sure to tell whoever is working with your diagnosis that you suspect autism (which often goes hand-in-hand with ADHD)

Yesterday I realised that I do it ALL THE TIME and I was totally unaware of it - I cram the words into a question or a statement to MASK the fact I am doing it. I was so good at masking it, I didn't know I was doing it.
Ok y’all I just found out that masking was a thing and my brain just exploded with the knowledge I have about myself now

That sounds like the best wedding ever!
