This is a cool solution, but honestly a few Baofeng radios and everyone talking on GMRS/FRS is much more user friendly and easier to do, unless you want to encrypt comms.
*for licensed amateur radio enthusiasts* ASSUME YOU DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO GET THAT FAR (and still wanted to comply with regulation, anyway) : why not use the damn phone in your pocket that doesn't _require_ a license?!
I was about to say the same. I keep a set of GMRS radios in my truck. They recharge with micro USB and last way longer. Any time I go on long drives with multiple cars we always run radios. Way easier than a phone. Baofengs can really get you a lot more range too.
I've done a bunch of LONG drives with multiple vehicles and we've found that it's way easier to use FRS/GMRS radios than cell phones. A lot easier to just push the Push To Talk button rather than messing with your cell. Plus your average pair of radios is around $30-40.
Love the video man, btw if you didn't know you got a lot of bass in this video, just constant like 20hz? if you pull up a spectrograph you'll see just a solid block of bass, sounds like something might be up with your microphone. Didn't both me, just thought you would want to know. keep up the great content man!
Not sure why you need such complexity, but there are apps on the same Play Market that can let you communicate with others (provided they also have that app open) i.e. text, voicechat, share files and creare rooms. Remember doing it 7-8 years ago when I was in a camp with no wifi and none of the ppl had cellular network with unlimited trafic (was pretty uncheap in my country). Thankfully one guy brought a wifi transiever in hopes of using someone else's wifi (we did cought one with 1-8 password but signal was REALLY poor). So what we ended up is downloading some app (using that wifi lul), sharing it with BT and using it all day (and night). Pretty sure you can use a regular wifi router for such purposes
Thank you so much man, I have been watching your videos since 2 years ago, I have learnt so much and you have motivated me so much, I’d love to keep learning, keep it up man!
Is it possible to use a satellite Internet provider such as Starlink -> Raspberry Pi -> LimeSDR -> boosters -> antennas to create an off grid network made of consumer equipment that links different local signals such as cell, wifi, and radio to world wide Internet communications via satellite? Such a setup may offer modern communication amenities off grid, be the backbone of a mesh network, and operate as a long range Ham radio backup in case of satellite failure.
You voice is soft as silk. I love silk. 💗 I would love a tutorial on getting into an iphone " without " using social engineering or needing user interaction.
Excellent video! I don't want to be "that guy", but even with a massive wifi antenna, you're probably only talking about communication in a 100-200 yard range, maybe 300 yards, at most. You can get cheap walkie talkies at Walmart or wherever else and you'll probably be able to use them over a half mile or more. Still though, great video!
@First Last No, I didn't, the problem is still range. You can relatively easy secure radio comms AND still get a ton of distance. ruclips.net/video/EjJHH1no3I4/видео.html as an example. And the radios are still inexpensive.
Literally was wishing to come up with something like this for a cycling karaoke convoy (hells yeah, I'll actually have to do this very random idea now lolol)
That is a nice project, but really for a Rural/Hiking situation, you'd probably be better off with a Walkie Talkie (Radio) and with a free APP you can view your GPS location Coordinates (without need for cell phone signal)
Sounds like a good trick. I am old school and keep thinking why can't I voice link to another phone, for voice instead of data? I know I don't know, the tech is just beyond me. I just use cb or FRS with security protocols. It works. But every one has a phone now, so cool idea. I think.
Interesting video, but way over complex to solve a simple problem. 1.Before going into back of beyond where phones are useless, use two way radios ,if its vast or dense areas use HF or VHF lowband radio ,if communications that bad ,I would not solely rely on hi tec as the only means of communicating. Great video but don't rely on one system if going into extreme areas known for bad Comms.👍
How does wi-fi calling work? Can you create a special server to allow internet calling on your own private network, as Internet calling is built into android and Iphones already, so you wouldn't need a separate app, and it would be more user friendly. You could also send text messages.
Yo @NullByte couldn't you download the Mumble server before you take the Piratebox offline and have a Murmur client on both phones? Text and talk client. Just guessing haven't done any testing but working on assumptions. If anyone has tested please let me know your findings.
It just seems that if it can do that. Then, there really should be a way to connect smart devices during internet down emergencies for smart gates, smart doors, and security cameras and lights. Just close-range things. It would be very useful during the Zombie Apocalypse.
I'm wondering about one thing, i'm thinking about buying Raspberry Pi to learn ethical hacking nad you're always recommending Raspberry Pi 3, why shouldn't I buy 4th generation?

@@asdfasdf-vp9up Yes you setup your RPI as a pabx and you can use voip software or hardware to make phone call over your network. magpi.raspberrypi.org/articles/raspberry-pi-telephone-exchange
this method has a limited shelf life since the creator of the pirate box is closing shop at the end of the year, with the site shutting down around 2021... using a raspberry pi for caravan voice communications got me thinking of a speech-to-text converter for driver input and a text-to-speech converter for receiver output in a mobile, encrypted, peer-to-peer irc-style setup. 😆 not quite practical but keeps the driver from texting while driving. and you can put any voice you want for the output. it keeps people’s voices private in the process. but seriously, i’d probably look for a non-wifi alternative that can’t get deauth’ed so easily. end-to-end encryption would be a plus.

Getting it from the official site doesn't work for me (keyboard/mouse input doesn't work) so I've had to use the Sticky version, which still has a problem because if I run sudo apt-get upgrade, it breaks the OS for whatever reason.
