yeah there were so many subtle foreshadowing and hints. The entire time against sam, he never tried to hurt you. You could see her reaching out her hand towards the trailblazer, attempting to hug you before archeron sIapped her away. Another important part was that she looked at you, archeron, and black swan, but only analysed the two suspicious people that followed you around.

We had most of the context from the start. When we entered the hotel we were told dying meant waking up and there would be no risks.
That info was confirmed by a few NPC side quests too.
