Public roads turned into Jeepney Garage

  • Residents complained to the MMDA about a one-side parking ordinance that turned their streets into a permanent garage for jeepneys.
Jeepney operators are required by the LTFRB to have their own garage or off-street parking, but multiple operators spoke to the clearing team and admitted they don't have any garage for their units.
One-side parking ordinances are intended to provide come-and-go residential parking. But in this Barangay, residents are complaining that it just resulted in their streets being filled with jeepneys and broken cars from the repair shops.

To be honest, most riders apprehended without a license tend to repeat this due to the very minimal penalty that comes with this violation. I believe that once you are apprehended with driving without a license, you can get imprisoned plus your name is blacklisted from acquiring a license for a specific amount of time.

It’s great what the MMDA does to clear the streets but they really have to increase the fine to deter people from parking on the side walks. Double the fine for parking on: Sidewalks, crosswalks, PWD ramps, handicap parking spaces. And towed if owner does not appear on time.
Others will be the same Php penalty on No Parking Zones & towed if not owner does not appear.
Motorcycles: Double the fine for No License & confiscate the motorcycles, Double the fine for No Registration & Towed, Double the fine for No Insurance. For cars double the fine for No registration & Insurance plus towed.
MMDA is enforcing what they can do enforce, kudos to them.

Filipinos just hate trash cans. My wife ran a popular sari sari store and we were always cleaning up trash the customer threw on the ground even though there was a trash can maybe 5 feet from them. So I decided to buy another trash can, set it in front center by the sari sari and sit across the street and see what happened. Time after time without fail the Filipinos would not use the trash cans. If waste was in their right hand and went to throw it away, soon as they realized they were dropping it in a trash can, they moved it to their other hand and dropped it on the ground.
Go to a mall and you will not see trash cans anywhere, not even in the food courts.

    • @GadgetAddict

One of the most basic requirements of operating public transport is that you have off-street parking.
As for the earnings of a jeepney, you might actually be surprised by how much can be earned in a day, especially if you own the jeep - instead of paying for boundary.
Just like MC taxis - a LOT of people don't realize that they can earn more in a day than many BPO office workers.
But putting all that aside, small jeepney operators or single owner-operator-driver can struggle compared to the modernized cooperatives which benefit from the economy of scale and shared resources.

The Towing Company must charge hefty fines to discourage parking on the street. How about 50,000 pesos towing fees.

In Canada if your car is towed to an impound.
The owner has to pay for the fine, the tow, and a per day impound fee. The longer it is in the pound, the higher the fines and penalties.
      Sometimes 600 CAD= 24000 PHP

GA, better mmda coordinate and diwcuss with the govt and manufacturers to tine for limitation of selling vehicles and motors in Phil or rather implement "strongest of the strongest policy" of no garage, no license of the buyer then you are not allowed to purchase of unit. Or else this is a never ending problem on earth

IMHO, is operators hate the Jeepney Modernization law, their jeeps should be in proper condition or maybe atleast follow some guidelines on "how to be a Jeepney", real talk, emission centers even inside LTO compound (with some money) can PASS a jeepney even without making a single test on it, i have seen many 😅
i would love to have someone like Sarao to build all the jeepneys for the country 😁

Smoke belching, bald tires, holes in the body, no lights, no handbrake, no garage.. it's like there's really no rules from LTFRB - just a franchise and PA over and over again 🤷‍♂

I don't think anyone would be surprised. The proof is in the pudding. I've shown jeeps that were apprehended by i-act for smoke belching, holes in the body, broken lights, bald tires etc etc.
But they have a registration and emissions test dated from just 2 weeks ago.
Are we to believe that all of those things happened in just 2 weeks? Obviously not.

According to the rider, he borrowed the motorcycle.
But there are a LOT of riders that really buy nice motorcycles before they get a license.
And let's be real, he didn't just jump on that motorcycle and magically know how to ride it.
