As good as it is to watch engine building turbo kit making I really like how you are taking us through the process of what it actually takes to make something a good daily driver. No one else bothers
Really satisfying and enjoyable watching someone who knows what they are doing making things work, so much better than watching people throw money at companies that make aftermarket adapters etc. when a little fab can go a long way.
My uncle has a 71 ZD in a garage back home (Mosgiel, South of Dunedin, NZ). I've got a soft spot for these old girls. I remember sitting in it as a kid (& teenager) thinking how cool it was. I haven't seen it run in about 22 years now.
I LOVE THIS SHOW!!! Turbo Yoda is such a damn pro its not even funny. His years of experience really show when it comes to fiddly stuff like that shifter. Woody is a lucky dude and im sure he is learning tons!
Enjoying this so much more than MCM at the moment. Moog seems to have lost his enthusiasm but Al is so calm and patient (on camera) makes for fantastic viewing.
These are awesome :) Alan working with Benny gave him someone to bounce off of a bit. The two of them on a project in this format would be amazing like the v8 nissan! Alan's such a quiet dude :P
I'd make a slotted arm, and a stationary semi circular track that determines what point in the slot the bolt sits in. Then, you'd just put the trans in each gear and shifter in each gear, and mark the spot on the slotted arm where it needs to be for it to be perfect. Then, draw the slot onto the plate based on your marks and trace it into an arc, and cut it out. Once you do that you should have a shifter that indicates gears exactly where you want in the car and positions them perfectly on the gate. The only way I can think that this wouldnt work is that if the distance to park was so drastically different that it had to be a right angle or something.
I had a rolling body of 1 of these beasts in the early 2000's an had to give it up after a lot of body work due to premises being sold and no where to store after. I hope ya do a video on 1st drive.. I can wait to see the big grin on your face : )
Probably won't see it, but a trick for getting hose over a tight barb is to use a heat gun to soften it up first. Heat the inside and outside. It'll also seal better when it's been heated because then the barb edge will "set" when it cools.
Looked like u coulda adjusted shift cable's hard runner tube back bouta inch and the og bracket woulda worked. Looked too close when goin to park. Coulda just moved the b&m bracket back to the next trans pan hole also. I had the same prob on a 62 t- bird gettin a coyote drivtrain swap. The geometry is there, just gotta find it. Worked out perfect. Cool car yoda, i need to come down under and meet all you dudes. Bet i could learn alot!
Ha ha have the cable setup done by previous owner on my tonner TH400 and column shifter, so N= R, L=D, P some times jams up, lock down in first or second not possible, so you select gear and basically feel which direction it wants to go. LOL
Under-the-vehicle trans coolers should at least have a fan added with a temp switch to keep the trans fluid below max operating temp. I've done that before.
Just a thought...but what about using the shift linkage/gate, indicator or column from from an 80's to '90 Aussie F series fitted with the AOD trans. I don't know how close they are but I remember doing some work on my old man's rig and thinking the column/steering looked like it'd been plucked straight out of a column shift XD XE falcon...
I don't recall ever hearing why they went to a manual shifter body on the transmission. I would assume that putting it in Drive and letting the transmission computer do all the shifting would be easier in nearly every way. Is there a strength advantage to this system considering it was turboed?
wouldn't normally ask on such a large channel but would you consider a small motorcycle rad suitable for a transmission cooler ?? - im a bike guy and British classic car guy on the side so im slightly out of my remit
DISORDERLY PUNK Depends on the pressures the cooler will see and what fittings you’re hooking to it. With a trans cooler, or oil cooler, they have fittings that are more suited to oil lines. And they’re made for higher pressures. A coolant radiator usually has fittings for larger hoses and isn’t made for as high of pressures.
We've really got to see another side of Al with this series. I love it! He's far more of a joker than I was led to believe these past years.
Just don't mention Honda and he's cool. ;)
He's got a dry sense of humor and I love it.
Sorting the column shifter out was well worth the time and effort. Few things more satisfying than putting a big V8 into drive with a column lever.
C6 or AOD 4sp trans would have saved time installing
Iam sick with lupus. I've been in bed all day but watching your show has helped me out. I like it and it has help me get through my day thank you.
these episodes are never long enough!
gear indicator comes out of housing
*MAXIMUM* *OVERDRIVE*
This is right now the best shit on youtube

This is even better series than any original mcm series out there, love it
Really satisfying and enjoyable watching someone who knows what they are doing making things work, so much better than watching people throw money at companies that make aftermarket adapters etc. when a little fab can go a long way.
this series feels like James May reassembling things, but with turbos and really informative badass engineering
It's nice to see Al looking way more relaxed on camera over the course of this series and a bit more of his personality coming through :)

"It doesn't make it loose it makes it possible." - Alan 2017
I love this series. Thanks for not being click bait.
"Small Box With Magic Inside It" is the scientific term, right Turbo Yoda? 😅
Must be midichlorians
must be powered by the force

Absolutely loving this build series and I hope there is more builds to come, just as good as watching Marty and Moog!
Was an honour to meet you Al, and the rest of the MCM team at the Sydney Nationals meet last weekend.
Sir Yoda San is on fire. Master Allen is indeed a very competent technician.
YES! WE NEED MORE!
Love your work Al. Very entertaining and informative at the same time.
Lot of work goes into this show, its appreciated.
As a mechanic i find this wayyyy more enjoyable to watch than regular mcm
I like you guys THE SKID FACTORY your cool explaining every Detail and Creativity you guys do on a car.
I learn so much more from these two...
This show is seriously so awesome. Keep up the great work.
That moment when The Skid Factory becomes a more interesting show than the actual MCM. :P
Could happen mate...
They're different things.
If you like this check out the 20+ part series of two blokes shoving a AWD celica driveline into a mini.
Project Binky
fuck you, I'm now three episodes in and not stopping!
Pace yourself. Their release schedule makes glaciers look spritely
omigod, four years deep in a frickin' shitheap!
Awesome this series is the boost force is strong in this one
Thank god im not the only one who had a hell of a time getting my b&m shifter cable set up perfectly.
Perfect timing. Thanks for the good day on Saturday also
never commented on a youtube vid before. This series is so great, I actually prefer it to MCM. Al is a living legend
These are awesome :) Alan working with Benny gave him someone to bounce off of a bit. The two of them on a project in this format would be amazing like the v8 nissan! Alan's such a quiet dude :P

Alan is key to all things that go choo choo.... chirp!

Woohoo! Best show right when I needed it the most...
Last time

You guys are doing a great job keep up the good work
can't wait till this car starts finally

Reallllyyyyy curious about the other cars in Al's shop. They look like a couple of sweet Turbo Yodas, would love to get a video on them!
Awesome Stuff ! Thanks for another ripper ep boys.
Good to see yoda having some fun
You guys are amazing!!!
YES! the german bendy one is back!!!
this show rocks keep em coming music is good too

Alan needs his own show!!!
Great job guys! A fun project to follow! :)

Hurray! More Videos!
THE SKID FACTORY.. hell yea.
this came out at the perfect time. i was so bored
Arian Mizani right
Looking forward to the next episode :)
Love the music!
If you wanted to get tricky, you could make a completely new prndl to replace the factory one. That would take the build to the next level.
Can't wait to see it do some skids :)
Love to watch your vids al
Next time on Mighty car mods, fitting the showcar mira bodykit on marty's mira (because you took molds right?) and swapping the engine for a huyabusa!
multiple errors completely different generation of Mira, wouldn't fit.
well done, cant wait for the next installment! :)
Cool info
Nice! Just in time to get my turbo Tuesday fix. ;)
Perfect

This is my favorite anime series
gurbeer athwal really
Beats Corey in the House hands down.
The shift column to the transmission is the best romance anime.
The manga is far superior!
what kind of drill bit were you using? i like how it has a stop on it. i need one of those!
Under-the-vehicle trans coolers should at least have a fan added with a temp switch to keep the trans fluid below max operating temp. I've done that before.
I'm loving this :D
Nutserts are the new tek screws. You'll be finding them all over second-hand projects in decades to come.
Just a thought...but what about using the shift linkage/gate, indicator or column from from an 80's to '90 Aussie F series fitted with the AOD trans.

Falling asleep in bed see skid factory upload... Guess I'll watch it in the morning.
berrypie45 more responsible than I...
Obviously not...
They were fixing the transmission in the morning? So was the time Trans AM?
Love it
can i ask when welding underneath etc where do you ground welder?
Getting real curious about the different ft86/BRZ/FRS on the other hoist. Two black ones and now a red???
What AN fittings and lines did you use for the transmission fluid lines? Thanks!
I don't recall ever hearing why they went to a manual shifter body on the transmission. I would assume that putting it in Drive and letting the transmission computer do all the shifting would be easier in nearly every way. Is there a strength advantage to this system considering it was turboed?
Damn you paparazzo! Nice Simpsons reference lol
So what did u mount up there an oil cooler? Or transmition cooler?
That oil cooler will work about as long as it takes for someone to mistake it for a jacking point.
What is it with the black and red 86, in the shop with them? ;) we wanna see those too
Man, I have wondered how to get a column shiftier to work with a different trans and TIL! :D
Turbo Yoda makes it look easy!
The Skid Factory: Return of the German Bendy One
What sort of fluid do you put into a transmission cooler?
Jason Moyle it's plumbed into the automatic transmission, so it's full of trans fluid
So the next episode is where we see Shed Skids??
Fyi for that trans cooler shroud you want the exit to be roughly 30% larger than the intake in order to make the best out of its location
Turbo Yoda. Cheers from Seattle! What era cars you like working on best? Hate new cars myself. No damn room!
11 episodes down and still no skids... Don't lets us down fellas!
Soon to be a Scarelane !
That's exactly how I test my shift cable, smart minds think alike
What about rocks and sand kicking up from the front tire at at the cooler?
WOW... more more more
wouldn't normally ask on such a large channel but would you consider a small motorcycle rad suitable for a transmission cooler ?? - im a bike guy and British classic car guy on the side so im slightly out of my remit

Whats going on with the black 86 in the background? Is it also v8?
07guren I'm also curious about the two 86's I've seen a red and a black since I've been watching this fairlane build
Fairly sure its a 2jz powered drift car
Will this fit in my Honda?
Carter Bridges lol
Mike Stone join the dark side
NO, but your Honda, will fit inside of this.
