  • The X-Men Krakoa Age is over after Uncanny X-Men #700 or X-Men #35 and burns down the foundation of Marvel's mutant heroes. Taking great pleasure in destroying what was left of Charles Xavier Professor X in the process. Even after all the failure of Krakoa, Jordan White and the Legion of Doofuses still refused to admit it was terrible or even end it. Wes and Jim review Uncanny X-Men #700 and say goodbye to the worst era in the history of Marvel Comics. Krakoa burns down X-Men foundation, destroys Professor X Charles Xavier.

The worst thing about this modern era is every franchise is the polar opposite of what it once was. Every character doesn’t act like they used to, they’ve rewritten everything & utterly destroyed it in the process, it’s just so sad what modern writers have done.
And it’s everywhere, Star Wars is unrecognisable from the original trilogy. The X-Men of today are just the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, it’s all such a mess.

I think people missed something in Hickman’s “House of X”. In the timeline that becomes the Krakoan Era,when Charles mind reads Moira and sees her lives,it says it “Radicalized” Xavier. The Entire Krakoan Era was the antithesis of Xavier’s heroic dream. This was the dream of an Xavier that was no different than Magneto.A bunch of Bigoted, separatist, drug dealing mutants on Orgy Island.

This actually figures into my longstanding working (although nonserious) theory that Hickman was playing 5D chess all along. He created a narcissistic personality disordered cult leader in Charles and then handed the reigns over to a group of writers who are similarly personality disordered. Narcissists writing narcissists. Villains who in their mind are heroes. In reality and in fiction. And a society ruled by antisocial personalities is always doomed to fail. If true, it's utterly poetic.

      @toddholland7511 2 месяца назад +7

@@joeparrigen4982 You realize that the only X-Men that is canon in the Krakoan Era is the Grant Morrison run. Hickman likes that run. Why else do you think Xavier was making side deals with absolute monsters like Mr Sinister? It’s literally in the book. This was not the Xavier we grew up with. He was more like Ultimate Professor X,who was just as racist as Magneto, they just disagreed on body count. That was the point, this Xavier saw that his dream hadn’t worked. Listen to him when he told humanity about the Krakoan drugs. He said,”Once upon a time,we’d have given these to you for free, but now, they have a price”. This was never 90s Xavier. HOX/POX was a low key retcon. Sorry for the book.

Really bothers me how Prof X was turned into a heel when his vision of mutants living in peace with humankind was the guiding teachings of his school. His moral compass is what guided the X-men and allowed them to become the heroes they once were. The current state of mutants in the Marvel universe is a travesty and I can no longer relate with these characters and don't find their stories compelling in any way. The whole universe needs a reboot/retcon to return these characters (and others) to the heroes they once were.

“If there were no humans, there would be no bigotry!” sounds alarmingly like the “If there were no [members of certain group] there would be no [bad thing]!” claims that hate groups make to justify committing horrible crimes against innocent people. The Chapter Black arc of Yu Yu Hakusho also had characters feeling that humans were evil and should be eliminated, but this was shown to be a wrong mindset. The takeaway was “Humans are capable of doing heinous things, but they are also capable of being noble, selfless, and kind.” Instead of trying to justify a belief that all humans were evil, they exposed how wrong it was to say a group was entirely evil just because of what some of them had done.

The ending was one of most random things that I've see. Krakoa just merged with your WHR counterpart and leaved the earth dimension, giving your middle finger to the mutants and bye bye. How lame can this be? All the mutants should move away with Krakoa to the White Hot Room and leave the Earth forever. The dream is dead now.And Xavier and Magneto shifting your roles was the final nail of all the characters assassinations over in this entire Era. Why modern writers hate Professor X so much and glorifies Magneto like a hero in latest years? It's so sad to see how modern writers don't like of the heroism concept anymore. How low Marvel can fall yet? Krakoa Era was the biggest example in how ruin a classical franchise for pure shit reasons. Who here are excited for From The Ashes after al that weak previews? Marvel is too stubborn and too arrogant to admit that they ruined the soul of the book and will make all these corrupted characters play the "heroes" again after all the bloodbath of the past months.

I’ve heard that back in the 1960s there were communes formed by people who said, “We’re going to drop out of society and form our own society where no one can tell us what to do!” These generally fell apart when people realized, “Man, this is hard!” Then in the 1980s and ‘90s there were various doomsday cults and survivalist groups who holed up in their compounds. Those failed too, often after something tragic happened. What the Krakoan era mutants were doing wasn’t new, but rather something that had been tried repeatedly in the real world and often failed.

Like i've said in all of MR. WES's discussions on the KRAKOAN AGE, once HICKMAN was gone, there was no KRAKOAN AGE, just idiots who would have used anything to get their silly agenda obsessions out into the public eye, be it X-MEN or random superhero title. What we should see under any Non-Hickman Krakoa material is the subtitle, WHAT A WASTE.
Was really excited when it all kicked off - and currently rereading HOUSE OF X reminds me how excited i was back then. But - besides HICKMAN leaving - the KRAKOAN AGE titles devolved into a technicolor mess of random mini-series after random mini-series, articles about characters' sexualities, and galas. And interesting storylines that went nowhere, replaced with nonsense like mutant girls murdering store owners because of trash bags and Wolverine surfing on Adamantium surfboards.
I will continue to point out that the Krakoan Age really went nowhere. There was no Age, just random minis that were similar to JESSICA GAO: ATTORNEY AT LAW aka the MCU SHE-HULK show, self-insert fanfictions from narcissistic personalities that cared nothing about HICKMAN's high concept ideas in particular or X-MEN/MARVEL canon in general.

The Krakoa era just seemed icky, for lack of a better word. There’s something really gross about characters like Rogue, Gambit, and Nightcrawler giving gifts and “breaking bread” with people, Mystique and Destiny, who routinely abused them. So this is the only X-Men comic I have read since I stepped away from retailing at end of 2021. I have kept track of the Krakoan stuff here and through other outlets. I have to say reading this it's like you get 3 different Charles Xaviers with the 3 stories featuring Prof X. None of them give a clear idea what Prof X is trying to prove or state. At the end of reading them all I come away with is, yeah Chuck you got it VERY WRONG here and nobody should be trusting you for a very long time. Least of all any of the X-Men. I mean you should at least write an ending that gives some hope to Prof. X becoming what he once was, and the reason for creating the X-Men with the purpose of defending a world that STILL hates and/or fears them. Plus alot of this dialogue is damn confusing with what the hell they are trying to tell about the future of Krakoa and mutants...and I hate that. If you can't write something clearing enough so the most base reader can understand it then you aren't doing your job. It doesn't come across and mysterious and intriguing but off putting and a drain on my time and attention. Yes Apocalypse being pulled back to what once was in the story is the best part. And yes Claremont's story is absolute garbage. I have read this type of story a million times and re-affirming this non-sense with Mystique and Destiny as Nightcrawlers parents is just dumb. And again it's all Prof. X's fault for why nobody remembered this that or the other thing about it...which now is tired tired tired. I like the usage in X-Men Deadly Genesis, but at this point any more Prof. X mindwipes are lazy writing and just completely destructive to the character having any integrity about violating someone's mind. The way this ends definitely Krakoa from being used again any time soon. Which is a good thing, as I now believe the worse thing that happened to X-Men is Hickman being allowed to ever begin this story, cause look where it lead us. WTF20.

I hate to say this, but none of this nonsense surprises me.
The fact is that the writers of the X-Men titles that feature Professor X hate Professor X. They can't relate to Professor X. He represents "white privilege" and a condescending and patronizing nature. They have to make him out to be a monster.
I see Charles Xavier in a more simple and grounded level: He is a man who as child (by 16) had lost both of his parents tragically. He was under the supervision of a stepfather who wanted to make Charles his own son instead of the son he already had. That is the biggest issue between Cain Marko and Charles Xavier. Kurt Marko genuinely loved and cared more about young Charles than Cain. Charles deep down wanted to find his own family. And he did so with his X-Men. They are his kids, for better or worse. However, there is a twisted dark side to Charles Xavier going back to Uncanny X-Men #3, that wasn’t right back in 1963, and it's not right now.
Writers saw that as ammunition to go in on Professor X. And now he's a bonafide villain.

11:54 It's like Chris Claremont wrote that story and willingly chose not to read anything that came before or after Si Spurrier's retcon... Which had Nightcrawler be completely and genuinely forgiving and loving towards Mystique and Destiny who, in the same year the retcon came out, abandoned him to die slowly and painfully in the Sins of Sinister timeline while they enjoyed their lives together.
Claremont also referencing the first X-Men story Mystique and Destiny had in DoFP when Nightcrawler dies not long after Kelly's assassination because of these two who did nothing to prevent that death in that future or his other one in 616 (which is still canon) is the moment where you can tell the editor was on a lunch break and Chris really wanted that paycheck.

Claremont is refuting Spurrier's and Gillen's take, saying that Nightcrawler would need time to trust them. Mystique and Destiny certainly didn't plan for Sentinels killing mutants and probably were killed themselves. (Claremont retconned Nightcrawler's death in a recent DoFP special.) Nighcrawler wouldn't know the details about Sins of Sinister.

It doesn’t bother me that Marvel has effectively destroyed the X-Men franchise far beyond repair. However, the fact that it doesn’t bother me does bother me just a little bit.
Uncanny X-Men was the book that first pulled me into comic book collecting and that book (along with X-Factor) is the reason I love superhero comics. However, Marvel has destroyed those characters so badly in recent years (even before the Krakoa Era), that I don’t even view them as real characters anymore. They just feel like soulless corporate mascots, which is why nothing matters anymore with the X-books.
