      Here’s an optimistic excerpt from the Duranki wiki:
      “The assistants of Studio Gaga had aided Miura in the production of Berserk for some years before Duranki, though Miura has still been the primary author and illustrator of the manga. With Duranki, Miura serves as a producer, responsible for storyboarding and maintaining artistic cohesion, somewhat similar to an anime art director. He hopes for the assistants to gain extensive experience illustrating in a cohesive, high-quality style, with intentions of eventually relying on them more in general, particularly in the case of illustrating Berserk - the often primary reason for the manga's long serialization times being such - thus increasing the rate and consistency at which the manga is published from that point onward.]
      Hopefully once he knows Studio Gaga is able to competently and consistently draw in a way that fits with his artistic vision we’ll be getting Berserk at a faster rate. Also, God forbid he dies anytime soon, but hopefully in the worst case scenario his team of trusted artists could carry on in his stead.

    The uniform clothing for heretics about to be executed by the Inquisition was called SANBENITO or ZAMARRA, it was usually yellow with patches of red and/or painted flames. The Gut's mother's garb can totally pass for that. Also notice how she is relatively fresh, while the rest of the hanged people on that tree are almost skeletons - spot on for figuring out it is the place of execution, not a singular execution of a family or a village.

    *What makes someone believe?*
    The idea of that only children can see the fairies and the magical, stems from a position of wonder and imagination. These aspects diminish over time as the child grows up and learns about and experience the world.
    You are taught how the world functions, how things are what they are. And you put trust in that knowledge, and in the people who taught you.
    Thus making you believe.
    What lessons have Guts been taught about the world?
    He has been taught only two things: How to swing a sword, and the only one he can trust is himself.
    And thus he doesn't believe.
    (Or maybe Im simply rambling cause its 3:20 am and I should really be sleeping)

    • @Michelrs
      @Michelrs 4 года назад +6

      I think believing has more to do with acceptance. As a child you accept everything is thrown at you, you know nothing, you are willing to learn everything. If you have been raised with some strict beliefs you would be less incline to accept other beliefs or different perspectives. Guts just doesn't gives a damn: he swings his sword no matter what. He accepts reality as it is.

  • @quibbs126
    @quibbs126 Год назад +1

    I like the first part of the theory, namely Guts’ mother being hung for being a witch and practicing witchcraft, and this also being the reason that Guts can see magical creatures even at a young age, but I’m not so sure about the whole her, Flora and Skull Knight planning to create some sort of savior for what’s to come, mostly because it just kind of doesn’t fit Guts? Like Griffith is the one with all the destiny stuff, Guts is just a normal human fighting against fate, and that’s kind of his appeal. It’s in a vein similar to theories about Guts having some supernatural blood in him, it just doesn’t work for him because it sort of cheapens his struggle, saying he’s not just a regular human. Something minor like his mother being a witch being why Guts could see magical creatures is fine, as it doesn’t really affect things as much, it’s a minor detail. But something like what the latter half of the theory says, not so much
    Though I suppose then there’s not an answer for the original question in the video, namely why Skull Knight knows the circumstances of Guts’ birth. I mean, maybe Guts’ mother was a disciple of Flora and Skull Knight was just keeping tabs on his old friend’s student or something, I dunno
    I’m also not sure how something like this would be revealed in story, since it’s such a relatively minor point, especially as Guts at no point has shown any indication of knowing or really wanting to know about his birth family, it just doesn’t matter that much to him. I know this is just a “tinfoil hat” theory, so it’s not meant to be taken the most seriously, but still
    I also realize this comment is like 3 years too late, but screw it, I just got into Berserk and I want to look at theories

    Spring Flowers of Distant Days, one of the best, least remembered stories of Berserk. As for your theory, I have no idea if it is true but it certainly makes a lot of sense. Skull Knight not just suspecting but outright knowing the circumstances of Guts' birth should rightly raise some questions. Further, SK seems to know at least some of the details of Guts' future beforehand, something that not even the Godhand can boast; Slan, in particular, makes it clear that while they know causality more or less works for the Godhand, they do not know the future. The detail that really sold me on your theory though is the idea that Flora and SK had another companion, thus making them a trio that mirrors the trio of Guts, Griffith, and Casca. So while I'm not sure if I believe this theory if it is ever revealed to be true, I'll think back to this video.

    I actually had my own crackpot theory regarding why Guts could perceive Cheech. It's possible that being born of a corpse and his many brushes with death left him very lightly affected by the interstice, leaving him with a toe in the other side while nearly wholly being in the material plane.
    It IS odd that the 80s as heck bandits in chapter one can even SEE and interact with Puck... But, Miura likely hadn't quite worked out the kinks of how magic worked yet since y'know, it was the first instance of Berserk's magic on display and we immediately jumped into Golden Age without much being set in stone yet. That would mean Griffith would have known about Guts at some level and that he was taking away something from him already. And that would give a reason why Griffith told him that his body was his should Guts lose. But then i feel that maybe, as your theory would substantiate, Guts is actually setup for a much larger and crucial role than mere Kingship. I think the thing with Guts is that there are lots of things about him that might make you think he's a chosen one, but the manga has never and probably will never explicitly confirm it. Does "luck" or even "being unlucky" really exist when elements like causality are real? It's hard to say. I personally dislike the idea that Guts is literally a chosen one, but I am fine with the idea that his birth set him up for his life. That's pretty much what Skull Knight says to him; it could simply be that SK took one look at Guts and was like "hmm I bet that guy was born on the cusp of life and death. Better keep an eye on him, since he's going to be interacting with the God Hand soon along with the other Schmucks of the Hawk." As in, SK could just see it in Guts' eyes or what have you rather than knowing all along that Guts was that way because he'd caused those events. My thinking is that SK would have taken a more active role in Guts' life to make sure he fulfilled his role had he been the one to set the events in motion but as we see he only starts getting involved near the Eclipse itself (which is when I think SK truly "noticed" Guts as someone with the potential to defy causality, hence why SK saves him and Casca during the Eclipse).

      No, it's not inhuman. It's inhuman to us cause we are modern humans, you've got to go study how older folks bodies were. There are old people that can bend metal with their bare hands till this day. Older ages humans muscles density was so tough that if we had it today we would die from the weight. It would crack our rib cages, past humans were born into war so their bodies adapted for the cause. Ever notice like in ghettos or prisons people get really big and buff easily vs common city people? It's cause their bodies are adapting to their environment. They have way less stuff than those city people for it to work but it still does, like Ice Cube said "Still getting swole off bread and water." it's a weird truth to it. Guts is normal, he grew up a mercenary training with a greatsword since he was a child, that is definitely humane. Zodd was a giant so his strength came naturally plus war it just made him a monster even before he was an apostle.

    There has to be some way to logically explain his sometimes beastial nature, insane physical abilities, and ability to see magical creatures, without turning it into some chosen one bullshit that spits in the face of his whole "lowly human struggling against fate" story. Like, some way to make the power he holds entirely his own, not given to him by some force of fate, but something he gained as his earliest tool of defying fate, or perhaps something his mother gave him just by accident. I think his mother being a witch, and exposing her son to magic and the astral realm, leaving his soul in somewhat of a limbo actually makes a lot of sense. I don't think it was done on purpose as some sort of chosen one ritual, however. Instead I think it was just as human an experience as everything else that ever happened to him. His mother was just some random, unknown, small time witch or pagan that happened to have a child, maybe the father will become important at some point or maybe not, but lets assume he's equally as irrelevant as his mother, possibly they were even both killed together. But being pregnant while also being a magic user just happened to expose Guts to astral forces and when she died it left a slight hole in his spiritual walls, leaving his soul partially and permanently attached to the astral plane. It didn't leave him with super OP magic powers or anything like that. It just allowed him partial access to the first step of magic, harnessing small bits of energy from the astral plane. But this was something that was second nature to him, he didn't even realise he did it, or even feel it happening, it just happened, as naturally as his heart beating. It essentially just boosted his growth and physical capabilities to be quicker developed than average, and pushed his bodies limits further how so he'd have the capacity to be much stronger and more physically fit than others, but he'd have to work ten times harder to reach those higher limits. That, and similar to how emotion plays a role in magic, when Guts gets extremely emotional, while he cant actually do magic, the increase in astral energy he collects can give him slight temporary boosts to his abilities, as well as make him appear almost as if he's taking on a more beastial appearance. Which is why sometimes getting super pissed off gives him an edge in those tough battles, not enough to come out unscathed, and certainly not enough to make it like turning on easy mode, but just enough to get him out of a tight situation in case of true emergency. Its basically just enough of a boost to his natural human resilience to get him out of the closest of calls alive. That's my idea on how his features could be explained with a similar theory, whilst keeping his struggler identity in tact.

  • @ethanknight3970
    @ethanknight3970 4 года назад +1

    @BOOFIRE191 An explanation as to why the Skull Knight could actually tell of Guts's origins is because of the very way in which he was born. Being born from a corpse/dying person, granted Guts an "aura" ,so to speak, that was different from everyone else. This would depict his uncanny abilities and strengths being on par with astral beings as he himself can be seen of slight astral origin, the only question derived from this is when and where did Skull Knight truly first encounter Guts which lead him to sense this "aura" or presence which guides him. Another explanation as to why Guts can see astral beings before his encounter with Zodd, of which was witnessed by others and can thus be confirmed, is this very other-worldly presence/aura that follows him; aside from that, even if Guts never believed in the existence of such beings, it was never implied of how open to the existence of such things Guts himself actually was. He could be seen as a blank slate of which anything can be written with the tools I.E. experiences and encounters, all of which writing, molding and shaping Guts as a person.

    nice Theroy with a weak point: the Skull Knight! He has only one goal and has pursued this singular goal since his creation - the destruction of all demons, especially the God Hand. It is rather unlikely that he cooperates with several characters, contrary to his nature, and leaves the destruction of his enemies to someone else. Guts is an anomaly for Skull Knight and partly also a reincarnation of his former life, so he always seeks its presence.

You can find many last words of soldiers in logs that died in war. Most people just say tell my family I love them or frantically grasp onto life before inevitably dying. Yes some do pray but also most people in past wars have been relgious people. Atheism is old but not as old as religion as well not as popular. That's why the statistic a pretty faulty. So he always ends up saving himself and casa to only throw his present self to the wolves to see if he's strong enough to take on Griffith. If he wasn't then he would take the place of his current self as skull knight, through letting himself be consumed by the armor and letting himself be reborn until he found one tough enough to take on the God hand. It doesn't make much sense for Guts not to be a chosen one of sorts considering all the things we've seen him do and survive that a normal human being even in the world Berserk just can't do

    Maybe he could see the flower spirit just because was sick/weakened. After recovering, in fact, he was not able to see her again.

    This reminds me of Harry Potter. Harry’s mother uses her death to create an incredibly powerful magical barrier that protects her only son. There may end up being a similar magical incantation that requires a parent to sacrifice themselves to create a powerful barrier and a connection to the astral world in Berserk. It seems that magic in Berserk’s world may require either a prayer to an powerful magical entity or require one to sacrifice time for a lengthy phrase to trigger magical effects.
