THIS! I swear I have felt kind of off-step this whole past year compared to last year and I think it was because I didn't have following the latest VOR news as part of my daily routine anymore.

Love it, love the race, been following for years. You guys are all awesome, that includes shore clues as well.
A great video and one that I will share with my friends, when they ask what is it that attracts me to open ocean sailing and racing. I feel that I am so fortunate to have had the opportunity to have experience it firsthand, even if it was not at the professional level of The Ocean Race. I can also attest that as the video says, as soon as the race is over, you start to think about the next race. It is certainly true for me, such is sailing’s pull on me.
simply amazing
This summer I finally got to learn to sail myself after being a fan of the sport and following various major events online for the past three years including following the last VOR. I took a class through my town learning on Sunfish and then went to a local sailing club and volunteered for anybody who needed crew on race nights.
A few weeks ago, I got to go on a J-109 for Wednesday night racing around the harbor. While we were heading out to the course, I noticed the helmsman had a VOR t-shirt and complimented him on it, and then we started talking about the last edition and how I had gone to the stopover in Newport. (He actually didn't remember which edition it was from but based on the map, I could tell it was 2015.)
He was impressed how much trivia I knew, so I said "Well, I guess I'm kind of a nerd. You know how some people are nerds about Star Wars and they want to be Jedi?"
"Yeah."
"Well, I am a nerd about Star Wars, but I can't really be a Jedi. But I'm a nerd about the Volvo Ocean Race and, well... here I am!"

Ocean Races Should Always be VOR. Shame they're no longer associated. R.I.P John Fisher #foreverfish. That was the best Documentary ever.

There are absolutely ocean races amateurs do! Look up the Newport-Bermuda and the Sydney-Hobart!
Look at the Clipper Race around the world. That's exactly like the Ocean race, but for amateur crews.
It never ceases to amaze me how much water these One design boats get across the deck every wave! There should be a way to design the boats without the need to be so wet. Yes they might be slightly slower with a different water shedding shape but for one-designs it would not matter if they are all in the same boat. Let's design boats to keep people safer and not get swept off the deck!

Do lots and lots of sailing! It's not easy and requires a lot of hard work. Start small and work your way up. Really eat, sleep and sail all the time!⛵️🌎

Real shame about Paul Fisher. Great video. I couldn’t help but notice that Scallywag had all black foulies. Probably pretty impossible to see that in a grey white capped sea. Not saying it had anything to do with not being able to recover him, just not sure of the wisdom in non-high vis foulies.

I've stopped after three minutes - it was more than stressful to watch - not enjoyable at all. That's a real pity. Besides of that the (Volvo) Ocean Race is a great race to which even spectators can be addicted to.
