  • What we’re looking at here is the coolest version of America’s most popular large-displacement motorcycle, Harley-Davidson’s batwinged juggernaut, the Street Glide. It’s been a top seller since it debuted in 2006 as a chopped and pared-down touring bike, and its charm to V-twin cruiser enthusiasts never seems to fade. You’ll see more batwing fairings in Sturgis than you’ll see bats in Austin, Texas.
    --
Baggers like the Street Glide have become the new "customs"-platforms for personalization like paint, sound systems, and high-end finish detailing. Harley's Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) allows well-heeled aficionados to short-cut the process and buy a hot-rod bagger straight off the showroom floor.
According to H-D's PR flacks, the CVO Street Glide "is a pavement-hugging, premium hot-rod bagger that combines muscular performance, insane custom detailing, and an outrageous audio system." Other than the hyperbolic adjectives, we're happy to report that statement is mostly accurate.
2020 Harley-Davidson CVO Street Glide Horsepower And Engine
The latest CVO Street Glide boasts the 117ci Milwaukee-Eight, an engine only available in CVO models and the biggest factory-installed engine available from the MoCo. With a hulking 1,923cc of brawn, torque is king, rated by H-D at 125 pound-feet of max twist.
The 117 is a magnificent cruiser engine, with gobs of torque available at a whim, regardless of rpm. Bonus points for throwing less heat on a rider than Indian's also-burly Thunder Stroke motor. Clutch action is remarkably light, and swapping gears is quite smooth. Downshifts are eased by Harley's new drag-torque slip control, which handily raises engine revs when the electronics sense an excess of load through the driveline.
2020 Harley-Davidson CVO Street Glide Electronics Package
This electronic slipper clutch of sorts is part of the H-D's Reflex Defensive Rider Systems (RDRS), which includes a cornering linked braking system, cornering ABS, traction control, and a hill-holding function. RDRS is standard equipment on CVO models and is available as an option on H-D's touring models.
More standard technology is found in the H-D Connect service that links CVOs to smartphones to monitor bike stats or be alerted to tampering. A Bluetooth helmet headset is also delivered with the CVOs, and this links to the stellar Boom! Box GTS infotainment system, which is as good as moto audio gets. The instrumentation is attractive, but some of the smaller numerals are difficult to read.
2020 Harley-Davidson CVO Street Glide Handling And Brakes
This top-line Street Glide handles with the relative ease SGs have become known for, responding like a machine that weighs much less than its 866-pound ready-to-ride mass (with its 6.0-gallon fuel tank full) might suggest. A relatively short wheelbase ensures easy handling in urban environments, and it can be hustled through twisty roads with an alacrity that can surprise riders of sportier motorbikes. It’s very nearly flickable, able to be precisely cranked to its 31/32-degree (left/right) lean angles with confidence.
Riders desiring greater lean angles have the option of fitting the longer rear dampers as equipped on the Electra Glide Ultra, which increases available angles of dangle a few degrees and extends rear suspension travel from 2.2 to 3.0 inches. The vast majority of SG customers, however, prefer the slammed look.
Brakes are another strong point of the Street Glide, boasting Brembo four-piston calipers front and rear. The linked function operates only above 25 mph to eliminate unexpected brake applications at low speeds while operating seamlessly at higher velocities.
2020 Harley-Davidson CVO Street Glide Storage Capacity
As a stripped-down touring bike, the Street Glide's luggage capacity is limited to the saddlebags that offer 2.4 cubic feet of capacity. A popular way to expand touring capabilities is to purchase H-D's "four-point docking kit" (hardware mostly hidden) that enables adding items such as a detachable Tour-Pak and sissy bar/backrest options.
Touring riders will bemoan the Street Glide’s modest cargo room and its diminutive rear suspension travel, but both those aspects are a significant part of the SG’s appeal for riders who use their bikes mostly locally.

Kevin is the best host. Beautiful bike, crazy expensive. They're still plenty of people willing to shell out that kind of cash for an HD. That doesn't include me, but HD has a whole marketing department who's job is to figure out just how much absurd money they can charge for these bikes. I bet their research says 40k is still not the limit of what some of their customers are willing to pay.

Christian, I could not believe my eyes when I first went into CAPS in Copenhagen a few years ago (I think they are now in Roskilde). However the bigger issue from my last visit to DK was the talk that the Government was going to look at reducing the tax on these bikes. Good news for someone buying one if the tax is reduced but bad news for someone that might buy one before the tax reduction. If they do decide to reduce the tax they really need to look at how it would effect the used bike market. I mean no one is going to buy a second hand bike if they can buy a new one cheaper. Cheers from Australia.

You understand that HD are are pricing this for the top of the market, but there doesn't seem to be as much thought put into the lower end of the pyramid. If HD are trying to extend their customer base, (younger and more countries, globally) perhaps they should pay more attention to the lower end of the range or maybe getting the LiveWire issues sorted? When a motorcycle starts to cost more than large amounts of new cars then the price is no longer worth the product... Is the frame made of titanium or something?! Why the hell does it cost so much.... Still a aircooled V Twin and imo doesnt stand out much more than many other bikes in the category. The paint on the bike in the video doesnt even seem that special just kind of a standard looking gray. Could you imagine how much it would cost to fix a dent or scratch on the side bags from a moron in the parking lot who bumps your bike!? With a 40k price tag the saddle bags alone must be $5k lmao.

Harleys are really expensive and people whinge about the price but yet they boycott Harley when they wanted to move production overseas. If the quality stays the same but the price goes down then I'm all for it. Harley is on a verge of dying with little sales and little interest from younger generations.

Because "younger generations" don't see the appeal in an air cooled dinosaur that costs double from what you get in a Japanese or even European bike.

Has Harley Bashing become a Religion? Granted Harley sales are down. So are motorcycle sales in general. I must say $40,000 is a lot of money for a bike. That said, someone will buy it and love it. They could care less what anyone thinks. Harley Davidson has been going out of business for the last 50 years. So I have heard.

Heres a quote from a friend:
People keep complaining these bikes are expensive.
Harley got what they want: viral.
Who cares about those peasant who cant afford Harley, they can go buy a Honda.
"I serve the rich and the deservings"
there is a price and brand for everything
Dont pay Honda price and expect Harley.
Pay amateur pricing expect professional price.
Those are sour grapes people who cant afford and complain. Really. No point.
I think harley purposely want to create a distinction.
They dont want any tom dick or harry be able to afford a Harley high end product.
Have you ever wondered how come we never see harley with food panda or grab food delivery (In Singapore)?
But BMW GS, Ducati, all have delivery rider (In Singapore).
They dont want their brand to be associated with *Peasant*
Be all sour grape you want. tThe truth is that harley is still going to survive and serve the top elite, rich population.
Why do I need to care about you peasants who can only afford Honda but want to buy a Harley.
Haters gonna hate but Harley still win in the end. Becoz of the viral. People *notice* the product.
Say for all you care , i want publicity and i get it. I Win,
    I have the *last* laugh.
This is the Sad Truth. Painful Truth.

Had a 2010 Harley Ultra Classic. Wanted to love it, but ended up hating it. Not enough brakes for an almost 1000 lbs. "HOG" and only about 70 HP., it was not fun to ride and was boring when you did. I have owned a motorcycle for my entire adult life and always thought a Harley would be cool. It is not, at least the big touring models. Ill pass, even if you gave it to me and I had to keep it.

Bullseye, I also owned Ultras, 01,03,and ,05 Realy liked the 01 best, kept it totaly stock. Totaly different ride which is fine with some people but did not fit my riding style. Before that owned mostly sport and sport touring bikes. Pre 1980. Had a couple Buells which never should have gone away. After watching this I walked out to the garage and still can not justify replacing my current bike for the past nine years a 2010 Kawasaki Concours which has taking me cross country three times plus many other two up trips. Plus I do not have to worry about the leader of the pack approaching me because I can be in the next county ahead if I choose.

@@MyTruckstop That sounds like me also. I Started in the dirty and then sport bikes and sport tourers. I then bought the Harley thinking it would be a great touring machine. Now have a new (2013 I purchased new in 2017) Honda VFR 1200f. It is a sporty sport tourer and the best motorcycle I have ever owned so far.
