  • This video is a step by step process for painting a butterfly in a loose and relaxed manner. People with beginner to intermediate skills in watercolor painting should be able to recreate this type of project.

    Here’s a list of the materials I used for this painting:
    * Watercolor paper
    * Artist tape
    * Water
    * Paper towel
    * Watercolor paint by Windsor and Newton and Daniel Smith (I used shades of magenta, red, orange, yellow and indigo to create this painting).
    * Round brushes in varying sizes by Artist Brush
    * Gold pen
    * Heat tool (or hairdryer ;) ) to remove tape from paper
    ** Please give me credit if you decide to create a video of a creative process like this one or if you create a painting like this one. As author Austin Klein says in his book: “ Steal like an artist, not like a jerk.” ;) **
    The music for this video was provided by the You Tube Audio library.
    I recorded my video using my iPhone 12 and edited my video using iMovie.
    Please don’t hesitate to ask questions or post comments! I'd love to hear from you!
    Thank you for watching! Have a great week and happy creating!
    Gabrielle :)

    I love this butterfly and would never have thought of using a skewer to makd the marks! You've inspired me to try painting it myself and, whilst not as good as yours, I'm really happy with my completed butterfly. Thanks ❤

    Here I am …… finding myself in complete awe. There are no coincidences ! For months I’ve been trying to create a butterfly. To no avail.
    And here I find myself being presented with the solutions to every problem I encountered. That wooden skewer works magic !
    Please keep up with the good work. You make people very happy 😃

      Hello ☺️ I did briefly mention the colors in my video description, but here is a more specific list of the colors I chose to work with: Quinacridone Magenta, Opera Pink, Pyrrole Orange and Nickel Azo Yellow (by Daniel Smith), Mauve and Indigo (by Winsor and Newton) and finally, I used the gold (called Pistachio Cream) from this little paint set - amzn.to/3sPeJFs. I hope this helps!
