  • Here's a 1975 Gottlieb El Dorado pinball machine in action.
    This machine is a drop target lovers dream. Tons of targets to shoot for and dropping them all spots a roving target for special. Easy to understand. Challenging to achieve.
    El Dorado has some excellent flow. The two upper flippers are placed at angles that look awkward, but they're actually incredibly functional and fun to shoot with.
    The initial plunge to the playfield is unique and pure genius.
    Good artwork. Great gameplay. Gottlieb at their finest.
    El Dorado was designed by Ed Krynski with artwork by Gordon Morison. It's two player brother is Solar City and the four player version is Target Alpha. All are classics and remain very popular examples of 70's pinball.

      Hey, thanks, man. I've always been annoyed at people who talk and talk about what they did to the game and how they fixed this and cleaned that and all that nonsense before they just PLAY the game.

      Ditto to that comment- I also get annoyed when they turn off the lights to demo game play

    El Dorado! Probably my favorite EM of all time. First played it in 1977. Never owned the EM version, but did own the SS version "El Dorado City of Gold" in the 1990's.

    I played this machine a couple years back at the Milwaukee Expo. They had it set-up on "killer" mode though. The drop targets would reset for each ball! So in order to get the special you had to knock down all the targets, twice, on one ball! I tried about 20 times...was within one target of pulling it off in one of those games! Aaaarrrrgh!

    I've played it once when I was a little kid. I didn't get all the targets down. My second time was in the '80s. That time I got all targets down. It was one of my highlights in playing pinball.

    In between the bells and the EM flipper buzz, there are the little noises we all unconsciously, reactively make when playing a table -- the ahhs, the uhhs, the ermphs, and the tsks (and the occaisional expletives). Superb.

    Fantastic flipper work! I grew up with this game in my basement, no lie. My grandfather was in the business of servicing pinball machines and jukeboxes. For my all-time high score, I maxed out the score and flipped it back to 12,000. The machine began malfunctioning and not registering all the points at some point after that. Fortunately my brother-in-law put the machine in his basement and restored it.

    There was also an add-a-ball version called "Gold Strike", two international versions named "Lucky Strike" and "Canada Dry", and a solid state version called "El Dorado & The City of Gold".

    On my Target Alpha the targets reset after each ball. I'm surprised this one doesn't do that. They're set up nearly identical.

    • @londonpinball
      @londonpinball  4 месяца назад

      The single player version of the game doesn't reset the targets between balls. It's what gives El Dorado a leg up over the multi-player versions. You have the whole game to try to complete the targets and get the special.

    Switches that control the lights on most of the drop targets appear to need cleaning or adjustment, or else you've got a bunch of bulbs out. Otherwise nice game!

    • @londonpinball
      @londonpinball  8 лет назад

      There are only two switches that move the light for the drop targets. One is the stand-up target and the other is the rollover switch in the middle of the playfield. They are working properly, as you can see at :15 and :45. Thanks for your comment.

    What was the special score for this game

    • @tjrox
      @tjrox 4 года назад +1

      Drop all the targets top and bottom. Cool thing is that once you do, the top target that is lit give a reply. So if you are good you can hit the lit, move the spot to the next target, hit and get another replay. So you can get lots of replays once in special.
