  • Here we have a 1976 Gottlieb Buccaneer pinball machine in action. This video is a bit long... I played three full games - hey, I was having fun!
This is a fairly popular wedge head from the golden age of Gottlieb pinball. The rules are simple and easy to understand, but achieving the objective is challenging enough.
Basically, the player simply needs to light all 11 inserts by either hitting the rollovers or spotting the numbers via the spinner. Once all the numbers are lit, the lanes at the centre of the playfield light for special. Hitting the '1' rollover at the top of the playfield is important since the '1' can't be lit with the spin-n-spot.
With strong flippers, the ball can be returned to the upper playfield through the right or left lanes in addition to the spinner.
This game was designed by Ed Krynski with artwork by Gordon Morison -- the quintessential 70's Gottlieb duo.
More information about this game can be found here:

That sound brings back a lot of happy memories. My grandparents had one of these in their sunroom, and I must've spent thousands of hours on it in the '80s and '90s. My stepdad and I just dug it out of storage, and it's now in the hands of a friend who's opening a taproom/arcade. I can't wait to play it again.

This was a truly great table. I used to play one on the Boardwalk in Asbury Park every summer night in the late 70s, pretending I was a character in a Bruce Springsteen song. It was two games for a quarter, and the machine popped at 110,000. Then I heard they were going to sell it, so I bought it.

I used to play this one when I was a kid. The top right blue star bumper would catch a ball and loose was to shake the machine and then it would tilt

The lanes for the rollover switches 10 & 11 basically block the upper play field so the only skill shot is up through the spinner in the center. From there it's just luck and next to impossible to complete to goal to get all of the targets. It doesn't look like there's anything else to shoot for. This machine would get dull really fast.

It probably looks "boring" because you can't see the score in the video.
That's a problem with most pinball videos: you can't see the score, so it does get kind of boring.

No, all the rollerovers (except the outlanes_) are bi-directional so you can shoot for those too (see for example 05:30 and at 05:58 in this video). Thus you have 5 ways to get the ball back onto the upper playfield. I have one of these too (though in less good condition) and I don't find it gets dull.

The game can be moved as much as the tilt mechanism will allow. That's what pinball is all about!

@@kingsuniversitycollegeits1802 none of these RUclips players shake the machine like we used to do. While I’m watching I’m constantly thinking “shake it!” Lol
