Any reason why you're not running mishra's bauble? Look at the top card, name it if its a nonland card, then cast the booby trap?
I used to run this deck years ago and had bauble. Not only do you get to look at the top card of their deck for free, you get copies with Mishra's ability and free draw if you whiff and can't kill them next turn.
Probably should have played it. It does sound pretty sweet.
Playing mishra's bauble in deck with actual Mishra seems like a must.

Wow. You really used Booby Trap on hard mode! There are so many ways to see the top of an opponent's library, and blasting people with 'Trap could have been SO much easier.
There are also some blue instants that return a permanent an opponent controls to the top of their deck. I made a casual booby trap deck that included Griptide, Commit//Memory, and Vanishment. These worked not only as soft removal for the opponent's threats, but also allowed me to guarantee the card that the opponent was going to draw.
There is also Second sight that lets you look at the top 5 cards of the opponents library and rearrange them in the order you want.
All of these are instant speed, so I would often cast them the turn before I untapped and cast the booby trap, allowing me to set up the kill much more easily.
One thing that could be interesting to take advantage of is maybe Scheming Symmetry? Mix that with Lanturn control and watch as you opponent puts the card on top and you name it as you cast Trap.
Scheming symmetry doesn't reveal, unfortunately.
@@TheArbieo I know but mixed with Lantrrn of Insight you see the top of their deck. In a way it garuntees almost that there's no basic land on top unless the opponent specifically looks for one.
Ironically, the real revelation is how insane Paradox Engine + Mishra is. Now I wanna see a “Mishra’s Paradox Value Town” deck without the boobie trap jank.
This feels like classic against the odds. Not the best 100% of the time. But every once in a while? An uphill battle like this is hilarious
I'm watching the deck tech part at work.... and my smile is just slowly turning into a confused face. Seth explaining a 7 piece combo for modern: and then we just win! Easy.

Seth pulling the combo off in the last game was great. He was like a kid on Christmas lol
so mishra's bauble would have been good in this deck. You sandbag a bauble, then crack before you booby trap and you get to name just whatever is on the top of their deck
My thoughts exactly. I was waiting for Seth to say "... and, of course, Mishra's Bauble..."
This, all of this. Another dumb thing with Bauble in a Mishra deck is that once you play Mishra, if you find a second bauble, you can crack the first one, play the second and get the first one back from the grave for even more card draw
@@Volvary not even the direct way it helps the combo or the other synergies it may have but the fact that IT IS LITERALLY *HIS* BAUBLE!!! the fricken flavor of the deck would be so finger licking good, so much flavor!!!!
@@Volvary I feel like there could be some more consistent kills or at least some stronger finishers for the deck. Altar of the Brood if you loop baubles over and over. Sacrifice or death triggers with cheap artifacts? Someone better than me could think of something. Although it's Against the Odds so Booby Trap it is.
@Ganic doni It's also a 0 mana artifact to be cast with paradox engine out... i just can't wrap my head around it, why would you not put bauble in it's owner's deck hahahaa
Kudos to the Eldrazi Tron player for not scooping when Seth finally got the deck to go off.
Noxious revival seems like an option. It's recursion when you need it, and forces a trap when you don't. It can also randomly make your opponent top deck a blank.
I wish Against the Odds was more like this. I totally get you want to play the newest cards with a set release. They just don't have the same feel since most of those cards are pushed anyways. So it really isn't against the odds.
He's discussed this a few times on stream where with a lot standard sets anymore don't have crazy weird/bad cards as much anymore.
@@bobzour Yes and this new set looks like there is hardly any against the odds cards. I think I rather just see him play with new cards in Much Abrew and just give us 1 or 2 options from the new set and some older janky brew cards too for the poll. Plus, with MH pushing the power levels so far, these janky cards are even more exciting.

"name a card in opp's graveyard, then noxious revival it" seems like it would be a good line of play to have available, to guarantee they draw the named card
and noxious revival is pretty good for general utility regardless

Booby Trap! I remember creating a good Booby Trap deck back in the days using cards like Nevermaker. I would name a permanent my opponent had in play and then put it back on top of it's deck. I remember casting memory lapse on their spell and then casting booby trap on my turn. Fun times!
Portent also works. Look at the top 3 of opponent's deck, put them back in any order, and draw a card during the next upkeep step. You get to time the Booby Trap that way if you need to.
I feel like this wants to be in a lantern-control type shell rather than trying to ramp out the combo faster.
Mishra's Bauble makes this deck nearly playable, it's criminal. We build janky decks not to being effective! xd

So I’ve been wanting to build an artifact modern deck. Lantern is in my list. But that might need to wait to build this wonderful pile of jank. Always loved mishra card but could never see playing it. That’s changed now!

*Looks to the Modern metagame where Hammer Time is still one of the top placing decks % wise, which has about 33% of their deck consisting of artifacts, not to mention the karn structs from Urza's saga*
Yeah it is a pretty brutal card even for them. Especially if they are low on mana sources, which usually ends up paying for them, making then unable to advance their board state in most circumstances until removal spell is found.

I thought for sure he was gonna run 12 copies of cards that say "put target spell or nonland card on top of opponent's deck". But nope. It's the goldfish himself. Paradox engine to spice things up.

This has probably been said already, but why didn't you run Lantern of Insight in the deck? It would entirely take the guess work out of what card your opponent will draw for a boobie trap and could make the deck go off much faster.

I feel like this deck wants to play some artifact clones. You know you want to get 2 Booby Traps into play but short of drawing AND hard casting them your only strategy is having a Mishra in play. Phyrexian Metamorph would let you get a second Booby Trap for 3 mana (and 2 life) and worst case scenario you can copy any of your other artifacts to help as needed. Same thing without the life loss with Sculpting Steel. You could also just copy your opponent's creature with Metamorph to buy time if need be.
Bonus value for the ability to play a metamorph copying nothing to instantly die and turn on revolt for Fatal Push!!!!!!
Needs more sagas and mox ambers. Surprised you're not using thought monitor or thought cast. What are your thoughts on running artifact lands? Like a grixis set?
Why not run Mishra's bauble? It'd be a flavor win plus allow you to look at the top card of the opponents deck when you cast booby trap.
Ahhh booby trap. One of my fave cards reminds me of my jank rootwater mystic and the trap. So much fun super cool deck.

I was thinking if you can add some wheel cards to make the deck to kill your opponents ALOT faster and this also includes forced Fruition if it's legal in modern though....

I demand royalties! Joking, this is actually a very different deck from the one I talked about in the poll, even if it had the same wincon. I used a much more lantern-like shell, and this looks much more fun for everyone involved
This deck has true againts the odds energy
I feel like Thoughtpicker Witch, Second Sight, or Psychic Surgery plus ghost quarter/field of ruin are better ways to guarantee your bomb hits than Temple Bell plus paradox engine. They do more when your deck is not cooperating (chump blocker, incidental disruption, fix your own draws, some of them are cheaper to cast) but they can all activate at instant speed the turn before you cast Booby Trap so you know exactly what card to name
Yeah, the thing I like about the artifact plan is that it works with Mishra. Things that let us see the top of the opponent's deck is another good option though.
Yeah, I'd pull the paradox engine, Temple bell, and borderposts for bauble, lantern, scheming symmetry and lurrus. There's prolly a few more cards that go really well with that plan that could fill in slots. I'd def watch an updated version. As it stands I thing the paradox engine temple bell plan is pretty mediocre.
I think mishra's bauble and thought monitor would be very good inclusions to this deck.

So let me get this straight... booby trap x2 but to activate it we use paradox engine + temple bell? why not a lantern like card to check the top of the deck?
I'll use any excuse to draw a bunch of cards ;) Lantern of Insight does seem solid with the combo though, even if it doesn't do much outside of the combo.
Could you make a pretty effective Bolas's Citadel deck with Mishra?? You already have mana fixing from talismans and border posts. Not even caring about casting from the top. Just loads of cheap artifacts to sac and recur using other copies of them.

Counters like hinder to put spells we know back on top and copy effects like mechanized production to make copies of trap to name new/different cards as the game progresses?

Proposed Errata text for Mishra: "Whenever you cast an artifact permanent spell, copy that spell." Yes i know it's not *exactly* the same, but it's basically the same.
while it seems functionally the same, that makes mishra a card that is actually kind of powerful in commander compared to currently being basically a 4 mana 4/4
