  • Steve Runge has done a lot of work at the discourse level for Bible Interpretation. However, Stanley Porter demonstrates that this area of study can be a minefield. In this video I try to get you up and running, utilizing discourse analysis even if you don't read Greek, Hebrew, or have a ton of time to dig into this rich area of study.

This is awesome. I dont have access to a laptop. But i have these resources, just that i’m on the mobile (iPad) app. Is there a way to set this up on the mobile app?

I don't think you will be able to set it up in exactly this way, but you should be able to open and tiler the resources in addition to linking them together. You could probably get about 3/4 of the functionality.

PT, I thought you presented a nice introduction to DA. The first thing I want to do when I study out anything is understand what the original writing communicates. There are so many sides to "context" that we need to understand and the more difficult passages usually require a more diligent approach. Cultural context can sometimes be the most challenging but Logos has good features to understand language. Good job!

Absolutely, Major! I think videos on different steps to the interpretive process would be helpful at some point as well. If you don't have a well rounded approach, you might miss something! Appreciate your feedback.

Totally off topic but im kinda thinking about investing in a large package, like Platinum. One thing that is kinda bothering me though is, lets say Logos gets shut down in 10-15 years - would I still get access to that digital library (If I'm alive and Christ tarries that is)? I know its extremely hypothetical, but given its a lot of money involved investing in buying a library, It would be good to know we could get access to the books and be able to put them on an usb or some other external drive should anything happen. Its quite different from physical books after all, lol. Sorry if my question is all over the place, I'm not a native english speaker.

Great question, Joseph! Logos users have actually debated this extensively over the years. Logos has explicitly stated that everyone OWNS their books and gets to keep them. They actually get downloaded natively, so in a worst case scenario, as long as you have downloaded them ahead of time, you should be good. Finally, many of the power users on the forums have essentially speculated that even if the software were no longer working, somebody would easily be able to come along and write a program that could read all of the books you own. While nothing is guaranteed, I think with Logos you are in about as good a shape as you could be.

I believe it is available in several Lexham Press collections, but I am not sure if it is any current base packages.

Listen also for ‘right.’ Roughly 90% of my discourse is comprised of these two words. ;)
