Not a Joey Logano fan historically, but this interview changed my opinion on him. Appreciate his honesty and openness, don’t think I will actively root against him anymore. Ty Gibbs is now public enemy #1.
Joey, I never thought I would say this, but you are open, honest, genuine and a very great person. What an awesome interview.
Why He’s been my driver since 2013 - when I got back into NASCAR.
He’s a class act across the board. From racing to charity.
I agree. He's an absolute prick behind the wheel. Outside the track i feel like he's a genuinely great person. Someone you can probably have a good time having a beer with. As soon as the helmet comes on though a switch flips and he's a straight monster.
Definitely has grown up, like Kurt Bush did.
He's awesome
Thought he was only interested in how to spin-out other cars …
Yes. I want to see 40 cars laid up against the wall on the last half of the last lap. Yes i do.
HELLZ YEAH!!! This has been the most exciting race since Dale Earnhardt was alive!!! (Well, except for the 2001 July Daytona race.. jr-💪❤️💪)
lol
Guaranteed to all finish in the same order as they went in. Hardly!!
@@nathanwahl9224 🤣
I second that.
Ty and team mate thing…he didn’t just hurt a soon-to-be ex-team mate, he hurt the Gibbs team. He kept the Gibbs Team from having two in the Championship Four. He impacted way more people than just one guy.
☝100% ignorance at its best here ☝
Corey - your show and Dale Jr's are some of the best NASCAR content out there. Period. Nice job. Great when you are on Sirius XM 90 as well. You speak from your heart, act like a fan, and are really good at articulating all of this for us fans to understand. Kudos.
This show, Dale Jr Download and Door Bumper Clear turn out some crate amazing content.
Nascar has needed something like this fir years. It made the race exciting again. If he would have crashed it may not have had the impact it did, but they'd still be talking about it.
ross move was the ultimate "hold my beer" moment
Really great show tonight guys. I felt all of you were very connected and on it today.
This, and Indy RC were premeditated. Im sure he has a list of tricks up his sleeve. Huge Ross fan, cant wait to see what comes next.
I think I most closely align with Joey in my opinion of the move compared to everyone I've heard, and I've listened to EVERYONE's opinion this week.
Joey is so confident about phoenix until turn 4 last lap when the melon man comes past him at 2x speed for the championship!
That didn't age well.
@@marykuettner752 melon man finished 3rd and was closing in quickly, so not bad at all for a team with way less finding than Penske
@@randomgamer19170 He was great but Blaney was going to block him and keep him busy. Joey was right about having the extra time to prepare being huge because he could share.
The thing between the 54 & 19 was so bad that nobody remembers to even acknowledge the 54 knocked the 18 out of the race too. They were 1,2,3 or 1,2,4 the restart before.
I'm glad I was able to see this interview. I was one of the Logano haters back then but he seems to have matured quite a lot and understands the sport to have what it takes to win championships. I will still enjoy a bit of nostalgia trip seeing Matt Kenseth junk him that one year in Martinsville, but I can at least respect him as a driver and will not root against him, unless he's against a favorite driver of course. He has definitely come a long way.
I want to see that....very badly. I'm watching for sure next race.
Great interview and radio reaction. He sounded like a fan on the couch watching that happen haha
Definitely appreciate Joey's take.
Joey is the only driver in my 42 years of watching NASCAR that I love outside the car and can't stand him inside the car. The guy is freaking awesome until he puts a helmet on..
Good thing he races for trophies and not to make friends lol
Joeys matured a lot. I’m starting to really like him.
Sweet name. I guess you loved THE pass!!
Great video. Corey is the man!! Gonna be a great weekend. #20 Dewalt car winning again at Phoenix!! Sweet Victory!! 🔥🏁🏁🏁🏁
Good luck and God bless you and the team this weekend and always
I am thinking the next time someone is going to try to block that move. That's where it will go very bad. The #6 Brad K thought about it but couldn't react fast enough. The Best NASCAR Move Ever!!!
He did block him technically.
But he didn’t even know he was coming. He said that in post race interview
Joey’s a good guy, he’ll be a fan favorite by the end of his career.
Though Ross is my guy and always will be I’d have to say he’s a favorite of mine.
Time has sat well with him. I wouldn't have thought so even a couple of years ago.
Love Joey 👍
i wander if the first person to slide a base went thru the same questioning ?
i am sure when it happened there was debate about if someone gets injured, if it's legal, i mean he is not "running bases" if he is sliding.
Great interview!!!
I don't know exactly when it happened, but I'm still astonished that I have really learned to like Joey...
Adds excitement to a sport that’s been boring for a long time
I agree with Joey!
I believe when Denny came back out on the track after Ross spun him and slowed down.. that cost Ross probably 4-5 spots
So as see it Ross was owed at least 2-3 spots
Lol
Poetic justice for Ross
Karma for Denny
All is good now
Let’s go racing!!!!
What someone could do now is simply just make someone think they are going to do the wall move in the next race. And instead make them go defend it and then dive inside and throw them off and pass. I think its good for the sport cause it showed the passion is there still for some people. And also opened up a whole new strategic layer with mind games.
A lot of people don't get Logano's point in this interview. Yes, Ross's video game move was beyond impressive, but if there isn't a rule to prevent it from happening again, everyone else is going to start exploiting it, and the move would go stale along with the racing. It's better off to leave the cool plays in NASCAR a one-time thing, like Kyle Busch getting a huge run up for a restart at the 2011 Budweiser Shootout.
This isn't something that is going to be able to be recreated. One or two people will try and fail and it will go away. The stars aligned for Ross.
Wish they would have talked about Ross and hamlins short battle beating and bangin and Ross quick enough to think don't let hamlin behind him.
That’s the most incredible wood on those walls I’ve ever saw ! I’d love to do my garage like that ( who am I kidding I don’t even have a garage 🤣)
Joey has a 1 HR segment on Sirius morning drive during the racing season. Does a awesome segment
Grab 5th gear, put your foot to the floor, let go of the wheel and close your eyes...RC is my new hero lol. Mad respect to Joey and all the drivers who are respecting the move though.
I've NEVER seen a car against the wall "climb the fence." They're stuck there. To get up to the fence you have to get launched somewhere away from it at an angle. Plus he HAD to start that right by almost easing it into the wall so it's not bouncing around.
Good interview 👍 I just wish somewhere like Daytona was the finale, would be mega
Steve Letarte and Dale Jr. on the Dale Jr. download, I think, said it best: the bigger rims, the car, and the track were all a part of it working out. Also, teams have thought about it and looked at it for a long time, yet no one has ever made the decision to commit to it like Ross did.
I'm all good for being on the side of safety for at least looking into trying to figure something to stop it from happening again.
Simple solution remove or change 5th gear at martinsville
Leroy Jenkins move lol
"do we really wanna see 36 cars up in the wall on the last lap?"
Me, a lover of chaos: "kinda?"
Except nobody would pass anybody!
Am I the only one thinking that Jones could possibly retaliate at Phoenix next weekend? He's leaving Joe Gibbs racing and next year he will run with JRM....
It's no different than using the "bump and run."
It is.. He didnt TY GIBBS anyone for the positions...
Looks at camera; "You've all made stupid decisions." Truer words were never spoken!
I'm now addicted to this topic and any drivers talking about this. How much damage ended up happening?
Joey Logano is awesome
Rooting for you Joey Logano all of us girls watch you every Sunday go 22 ❤🇺🇸😊
I hope you win this championship.
I used to hate him, now I am neutral. I’m a Elliott fan but if I had to rank them on who I want to win the chip, it’s
1.) Elliott
2.) Bell
3.) Logano
4.) Chastain
But honestly I just want a good race and not a snooze fest of a race at PHX
Corey is awesome and should be an announcer whenever he decides to stop racing.
My first time, I was pleasantly surprised, this is a good show.
Another thing about "eveyone" pulling that Chastain maneuver; if more than one car does it, only the first one gains anything; if everybody does it, nobody passes anyone, they're ALL stuck in that order. So most times without a clear outside lane in front of you the entire move is pointless.
Y’all notice how all the former drivers LOVED this move and most of the current drivers have this “yeah, but” thing going on? Just wreaks of sour grapes cuz they didn’t think of it first and mainly because they don’t want someone to beat them by doing it. Cry in ur beers, this was AMAZING in every way!
Interesting dynamic this year with the 5 car still being in the owners championship. Going to be a 5 car battle for the championship instead of 4. Don't think it's ever happened in Cup since the inception of the playoff format.
A little disconcerting we're going to a track like Phoenix for the championship if the wallride on the final lap is now, not only a move that has proven to work, but is also still legal. There's enough parity in speed in both corners at Phoenix that the wallride could work and there's so much opportunity there where a situation will arise that would entice the championship drivers to wallride that last corner if they're close enough to their fellow championship contenders and take that spot away.
We're setting up for some really ugly finishes potentially in all the races this weekend, the most desperate races of the year at a track where the wallride could work. It's crazy to me how people don't see how this is a problem and it's even more crazy that Nascar hasn't said anything so that door is still wide open. All the drivers can do this next weekend. Does anybody really want to see this become a norm? I don't.
Chastain's move was great to see happen once but it quickly becomes an absurd thing if and when there's 5 cars doing it on the last lap for many races. And Chastain said his head was rattled after doing it. With all the concerns with the safety of the car and concussions. Shocking Nascar has done nothing just because they're afraid of backlash and don't want to douse the huge spike in popularity Nascar has gotten as a result.
They'll make a rule, they're just going to wait until next year to enact it when the attention dies down.
Best move in racing lagano fan
I'm an extreme Chase Elliott fan but I think Joey is the favorite
Joey as a 2X Champ is 😎 . Ross as Champ in year 2 ( competitive) very cool.
Bell getting a championship before Hamlin would be 😎.
Chase getting a second championship within 2 or 3 years would be impressive af. Even Kyle Busch had like 3 or 4 years between his two championships under this format
J & C good discussion
Logano is not my favorite but he is the perfect driver to answer these questions
Good show guy!
7:30 Right on Joey: "The next time it happens it's just not as cool. And all of a sudden, it's losing the integrity of what Racing is".
How is what Ross did not racing?
Riding the wall existed at darlington in Petty's day - they'd put wood in the door frame and ride the wall. If you didn't do it you wouldn't win.
If 10 cars go high on the last lap it might be smart to be low. Let's find out
joey on stackin pennies is gon be the counterpart to aaron rodgers on the pat mcafee show
Nascar needs more chastained
Man, this set needs a small diecast of a red and white 711 modified somewhere
Fast Lane Chastain
I think he is a slight favorite over chase. But Ross and bell can very easily throw a wrench in that. I fully expect it to be 22 9 in the 1 and 2 spot with 10 to go
Which driver wouldn't do it to win the championship
Hot wheels needs to sponsor a track and pair the wall’s orange . But allow all cars to put side wheels on 👍🏻
Ty even asked was they gonna do the team mate thing on that last restart
"It's not my job to grow racecar drivers. It's my job to kick their ass."
Ricky Bobby would be so proud 😂
I never watched a second of nascar before seeing this clip. Now here I am trying to get knowledgeable on the sport and figure out when and where to watch the championship. I think it would be a bad move for them to make a rule. Especially if it was on the grounds of keeping the “integrity” of the sport, as if a crazy last ditch effort move damages the sports integrity. Almost all sports have a goofy hail mary move that doesnt take much skill. Football has a hail mary, or the even goofier backyard style lateral passing when its too far away for a hail mary. Basketball has the full court lob or fouling the other team non stop to save time. Nobody thinks it makes the sport less legitimate. It doesnt seem like it would be that hard to counter either just doing more or less what denny did to Larsen in daytona and hugging the wall not even riding it. I get the safety concerns but I dont see it being that much more dangerous than usual if you do things to make sure safety is to a high standard, checking and maybe reinforcing the gate or whatever. Not like its the safest sport anyway and yeah things can go wrong but not like purposefully wrecking someone cant go wrong either. My two cents on the topic
JOEY!!!!
Can you explain the NASCAR rule on the ability of a driver to throw his helmet on to the racetrack? Austin Dillon show no regards for safety of the other drivers while they are still driving during a caution after making contact with Ty Reddick in which he was maintaining his position vs Austin moving from the top of the into the lower lane position. Why hasn't masks are given Austin Dillon a penalty/ fine/team and driver points for his behaviour. NASCAR rule under conduct in regards to keeping drivers safe and preventing damage to the racing cars.
Joey got very fortunate with that 11 getting knocked out that is a big contender that could win that race and is out of the championship
You'll never see 40 cars doing that all at once! They'd be blocking each other and the driver smart enough to not do it will pass them all on the inside. Only a few tracks it's even possible on and half the drivers don't have the stones to try it. The move itself brought more fans to NASCAR and brought back some former fans.
Making a rule against it, will negate all of that and send other fans out with em! It's best for NASCAR to leave it alone.
If the move was "bad for the sport", we would not all be on here talking about it! It actually gave me someone to route for for the first time since Sr.
"Let's give him something to talk about."
- Bonnie Raitt
3:35 - Do we want to see 40 cars laid up against the wall?
Yeah.... yup. Absolutely.
If you make a rule, fans will be pissed. Can you afford to do that?
I'm not sure they need to make a rule, there's bound to be one already about crashing your car deliberately.
It was brilliant to see, it'll get a few more eyes on Phoenix, but it's also a ridiculous move, no talent involved, and dangerous
@@astonwards7236 dangerous to himself I agree, but the other drivers were all on the apron down low! I’m not even a nascar fan, but I’ve become a Chastain fan!
@@davehardesty3649 Good on you, I think Chastain will be a very good driver, he's still got some work to do, tends to overdrive (which is better than under-driving at least).
But crashing into the wall carries a lot of unknowns, he even said himself that he'd forgotten there was a gate partway round the corner.
I love that he made the move, but it can't stay as a legitimate move, funny as hell the first time, but the joke will grow old quickly, and there will be hell to pay if debris gets flung into the crowd.
Edwards tried that a few years ago and he didn't make it like this guy did
Carl Edward's was the first one did it drove to the bottom with out lifting tho
the Hail Melon is gonna end up like the Kenny Pickett fake slide
Yea Joey you moved Mark Martin for a win at Pocono, and he helped you in to NASCAR
JL and CL have been good friends for decades. FYI
Ross Chastain next job should be top fuel drag bikes.... ya need huge cajones to do that too.
There is a very simple and easy solution to the wall riding issue. Just redesign the wall.
There's nothing easier than making the wall's surface just irregular enough to slow a car riding it down significantly more to make this move not work.
This is an issue that shouldn't first and foremost be solved by rules, but by engineers along with very minor changes of regulations how a racetrack's walls should be designed and constructed.
We've done it before with regulating engines, tires, chassis, so let's just add a regulation for a racetracks walls so that this move does not work in the future.
Oh and while we're at it, somebody please tell the big game designers of racing simulations or arcade racing games to do the 'same' and make wall-riding ineffective.
Chastain's move was absolutely great, impressive, fun and entertaining, but it only was because he did it in real life, not in a video game.
My guess NASCAR will lock out 5th gear on short tracks. Problem solved. But why is this any worse than a bump and run for the win ??
Was the shaking in 2020 caused by a bad tire? If it was, I see why that really hurt.
Championship doesn't mean as much anymore, winning a lot of races should be a more important factor in HOF consideration.
Joey Logano NASCAR champion 2022
The Wallermelon Crawl....
Joey is afraid he'll get passed, at most tracks THE LAWS of PHYSICS won't allow that move. So no rule is needed.
How bout watermellon balls YES
Good conversation. How much money in damage to the car???
Did Justin marks look like he was worried about the car damage!!!!
Mmm, I always thought the integrity of racing or whatever sport have you was "Are you willing to do what it takes to win?"
Now that being said, what Ross did was legal. And probably should still be legal because the option was always there in the past. The reason why people didn't do it was because it's bloody dangerous and your car will be wrecked afterwards or during. Now it's another option to consider, do you risk doing this and gun it? What if there's someone ahead of you that blocks you off from speedin up with the same maneuver? IMHO it adds an additional layer of strategy. However, I do understand the thought that probably everyone will just do it in the final turn xD
Guys the drivers can't say too much and be too happy about it because everything has to be politically correct nowadays it's not like it was when Dale Sr was around
My take, dangerous move, but no more dangerous than spinning another intentionally to gain a spot, many bad things can happen to the opposing driver, fans, etc. If you make a full on this then if someone spins another car on purpose of accidentally, they should be put to the rear of the longest line.
Chastine saved NASCAR. I truly believe that
i don't know if it needs to stick around. much like the video games. once you finally did learn how to actually drive faster, turning the wall at max speed began to feel hollow, and as if you were cheating the computer. on a more practical note, that has to freaking hurt and its not guaranteed to even work!
also, Joey Logano "Wall Cop" is objectively the funniest thing ever
Kinda like when logano knocked mark Martin out of the way in pocono.
