I will still enjoy a bit of nostalgia trip seeing Matt Kenseth junk him that one year in Martinsville, but I can at least respect him as a driver and will not root against him, unless he's against a favorite driver of course. What someone could do now is simply just make someone think they are going to do the wall move in the next race. And instead make them go defend it and then dive inside and throw them off and pass. I think its good for the sport cause it showed the passion is there still for some people. And also opened up a whole new strategic layer with mind games.

A lot of people don't get Logano's point in this interview. Yes, Ross's video game move was beyond impressive, but if there isn't a rule to prevent it from happening again, everyone else is going to start exploiting it, and the move would go stale along with the racing. It's better off to leave the cool plays in NASCAR a one-time thing, like Kyle Busch getting a huge run up for a restart at the 2011 Budweiser Shootout.

Another thing about "eveyone" pulling that Chastain maneuver; if more than one car does it, only the first one gains anything; if everybody does it, nobody passes anyone, they're ALL stuck in that order. So most times without a clear outside lane in front of you the entire move is pointless.

Interesting dynamic this year with the 5 car still being in the owners championship. Going to be a 5 car battle for the championship instead of 4. Don't think it's ever happened in Cup since the inception of the playoff format.
A little disconcerting we're going to a track like Phoenix for the championship if the wallride on the final lap is now, not only a move that has proven to work, but is also still legal. There's enough parity in speed in both corners at Phoenix that the wallride could work and there's so much opportunity there where a situation will arise that would entice the championship drivers to wallride that last corner if they're close enough to their fellow championship contenders and take that spot away.
We're setting up for some really ugly finishes potentially in all the races this weekend, the most desperate races of the year at a track where the wallride could work. It's crazy to me how people don't see how this is a problem and it's even more crazy that Nascar hasn't said anything so that door is still wide open. All the drivers can do this next weekend. Does anybody really want to see this become a norm? I don't.
Chastain's move was great to see happen once but it quickly becomes an absurd thing if and when there's 5 cars doing it on the last lap for many races. And Chastain said his head was rattled after doing it. With all the concerns with the safety of the car and concussions. Shocking Nascar has done nothing just because they're afraid of backlash and don't want to douse the huge spike in popularity Nascar has gotten as a result.
They'll make a rule, they're just going to wait until next year to enact it when the attention dies down.

I never watched a second of nascar before seeing this clip. Now here I am trying to get knowledgeable on the sport and figure out when and where to watch the championship. I think it would be a bad move for them to make a rule. Especially if it was on the grounds of keeping the “integrity” of the sport, as if a crazy last ditch effort move damages the sports integrity. Almost all sports have a goofy hail mary move that doesnt take much skill. Football has a hail mary, or the even goofier backyard style lateral passing when its too far away for a hail mary. Basketball has the full court lob or fouling the other team non stop to save time. Nobody thinks it makes the sport less legitimate. It doesnt seem like it would be that hard to counter either just doing more or less what denny did to Larsen in daytona and hugging the wall not even riding it. I get the safety concerns but I dont see it being that much more dangerous than usual if you do things to make sure safety is to a high standard, checking and maybe reinforcing the gate or whatever. Not like its the safest sport anyway and yeah things can go wrong but not like purposefully wrecking someone cant go wrong either. My two cents on the topic

Only a few tracks it's even possible on and half the drivers don't have the stones to try it. The move itself brought more fans to NASCAR and brought back some former fans.
Making a rule against it, will negate all of that and send other fans out with em! It's best for NASCAR to leave it alone.

There is a very simple and easy solution to the wall riding issue. Just redesign the wall.
There's nothing easier than making the wall's surface just irregular enough to slow a car riding it down significantly more to make this move not work.
This is an issue that shouldn't first and foremost be solved by rules, but by engineers along with very minor changes of regulations how a racetrack's walls should be designed and constructed.
We've done it before with regulating engines, tires, chassis, so let's just add a regulation for a racetracks walls so that this move does not work in the future.
Oh and while we're at it, somebody please tell the big game designers of racing simulations or arcade racing games to do the 'same' and make wall-riding ineffective.
Chastain's move was absolutely great, impressive, fun and entertaining, but it only was because he did it in real life, not in a video game.

My guess NASCAR will lock out 5th gear on short tracks. Problem solved. But why is this any worse than a bump and run for the win ??

Was the shaking in 2020 caused by a bad tire? If it was, I see why that really hurt.

Championship doesn't mean as much anymore, winning a lot of races should be a more important factor in HOF consideration.

Joey is afraid he'll get passed, at most tracks THE LAWS of PHYSICS won't allow that move. So no rule is needed.

Mmm, I always thought the integrity of racing or whatever sport have you was "Are you willing to do what it takes to win?"
Now that being said, what Ross did was legal. And probably should still be legal because the option was always there in the past. The reason why people didn't do it was because it's bloody dangerous and your car will be wrecked afterwards or during. Now it's another option to consider, do you risk doing this and gun it? What if there's someone ahead of you that blocks you off from speedin up with the same maneuver? IMHO it adds an additional layer of strategy. However, I do understand the thought that probably everyone will just do it in the final turn xD

My take, dangerous move, but no more dangerous than spinning another intentionally to gain a spot, many bad things can happen to the opposing driver, fans, etc. If you make a full on this then if someone spins another car on purpose of accidentally, they should be put to the rear of the longest line.

i don't know if it needs to stick around. much like the video games. once you finally did learn how to actually drive faster, turning the wall at max speed began to feel hollow, and as if you were cheating the computer. on a more practical note, that has to freaking hurt and its not guaranteed to even work!
also, Joey Logano "Wall Cop" is objectively the funniest thing ever
