My girl Patti is soo beautiful. Yet, when she starts making those facial expressions while singing,.... You know she about to bring the house down! She makes you wanna jump up, and start shouting!! 😘
Back when people used to be able to sing without ear plugs and didn't do 50 million unnecessary vocal runs and ad libs. Just strong, unbroken, notes and pure emotion and feeling. Since the invention of auto tune, and whatEVER they use to make some of these singers sound like they have more than struggle in their vocal cords, no one has to try anymore to be "talented." That machine needs to be up for a lifetime achievement award. Now Patti did outshine Aretha's original, but that's what you're supposed to do when you pay tribute to someone. You don't want to do a mediocre version of their song, so you do your best. She did that and unfortunately, Aretha felt some kinda way about it. Body language speaks volume. But such is the behavior of a diva, you take it and keep it moving.
KeepingItReal66441 I won't jump to conclusions, but there are very few singers you can come up with that fit your criteria of "50 million unnecessary vocal runs and ad libs". That's probably what you were called out for.
Very few? That's almost every female singer that's come out since the late 90's. It was trending back then, not so much now. Harmonies are dominant now. Either way, it was a troll statement, not a call out...but that's just me.
Aretha looked like she was genuinely TOUCHED by Pattie blowing this song out the water. Also Aretha is a diva so I’m sure her EGO was a little frazzled nonetheless Aretha was pleased and respected Patti enough to stand up and give her a well deserved standing ovation!!!!! This tribute was EVERYTHING!

Excellent tribute by legendary Ms. Patti Labelle! Classic song! RIP iconic Queen of Soul Ms. Aretha Franklin.
I don’t maybe it’s me but @3:00 The Queen of Soul had tears in her eyes. To have someone sang the hell out of your song like that is impressive and shocking at the same time. Plus Ms. Pattie recorded this song for one of her albums. Love this performance. Rest In Peace Ms. Aretha Franklin
You saw what I saw. Appreciation. The eyes showed adoration. Not "shade"
Exactly, she knew she would bring it & make it her own as well.
You're right, it looked as though she was doing her best to not cry. I can't say the same for me though.
@J M well said, folks always want to make everything a competition or battle, both of these ladies are blessed with outstanding talents, they each have their own unique styles, and they are both legions in their own right.
Hated Pattis recorded versiuon, the live rendition was best of all. Retha sang it live and I fell asleep.
I love how Patti went back to embrace Tina like "Hey Girl!" *muah*
My girl Patti is soo beautiful. Yet, when she starts making those facial expressions while singing,.... You know she about to bring the house down! She makes you wanna jump up, and start shouting!! 😘
RIP Aretha!!!!
Best version hands down.
But such is the behavior of a diva, you take it and keep it moving.
shut up hater
I'm a hater for making an observation? Ok...
Great comment. And, so true.
Patti..... Sang that song with meaning and a message❣️ Aretha didn't look like she like the way it was being delivered 🤔 Tina Turner sure did 😍💕
You caught that too? Lol! I sure did!
Yasssss those vocals!! I could listen to her sing all day
Ok those backup did that shit and so did Patti. one of my favorite performances ever
Background vocals on fire🔥
Patti stops time ! Beautiful!
A Queen singing to another Queen Amen!
The Best TRIBUTE hands down!!
I’ve probably responded to this years ago, but honey Patti was NOT playing around!
I don’t think it was the diva in Aretha that caused that reaction.
I think Aretha had NEVER heard anyone do one of her songs in that fashion!
Aww, Patti Hugged Tina Afterwards.
*~ Rookie ☆.*
xPerfection Paradox then looked at Aretha like yeah that's how it's done lol
Patti just hits the note here, and it is sweet to see the diva in the audience give a smile for this performance.
Oh my Ms Patti you sang that song, beautiful
Ms.Patti killed this. Much respect to these two beautiful and talented jewels. They mean so much to the music community. Both with unmatched talent that we will may never witness again.
Patti: "she was actin like I was repeatin her order back to her through the drive-through and thats not even the worst of it...that hug gave me frost bite, ok" LoL
Patti Labelle took me on a journey with this rendition. You got to be super bad to tear down the house singing a song in front of the Queen of Soul. Brilliant!
Man you don't see awards shows like this anymore...Patti, Aretha, Tina, and even Rosa Parks was there!! Those were the times!!.........AND I love how Patti hugged Aretha at the end and Tina too :)
😂
Ok 2019 and Patti still leading!!!
Best renditions for "Ain't no way"
*Patti Labelle
*Christina Aguilera
*Jennifer Hudson
Denny Q Nelson Jean Carn 1988
Don’t forget Amber Riley
Or ledisi
Ledisi también 💙
Wuuuuuuuuuut???? I never knew Jean Carn sang this sing, ima have to listen to that.
Aretha always knew Patti Labelle could have also been the Queen of Soul due to her Voice and soulful sound. Love this tribute too Aretha. Love Patti Labelle. R I.P. Queen Of Soul Aretha Franklin
Now this... is a TRIBUTE. Not a competition for who can do more runs and ad libs: the original singer, or the person covering the song. Patti took this song, and made it beautiful in her own way, respecting Aretha’s craft.
Omg I was a teenager not too long ago when i discover this performance! How can you take somebody’s song and amplify it like this! I mean Patti SUNNNGG this song like it was her last! WOW!
Patti sung this tune from the top to the bottom. She sounds wonderful.
I like how at the end when Patti saw Tina Turner as she was walking away, she turned back and was like "Oh, hey gurl!" {in the voice only Patti can do} and gave her a hug! Lol, I love how down to earth she is.
My lord Patti !! Wow
And that’s how the legends do it guys, watch and learn 2018
Yessssss Mrs Patti. Labelle!!!! Honey You Killed It.
Patti is fearless!!!!
*LORD!* Patti almost snatched her _own wig off_ at 3:17 when she dipped down for that note!
my FAVORITE version hands down
Two Legendary Divas....."Ain't No Way" QUEEN Aretha, did not like this amazing
performance by Ms. Patti, she did her thang!!!......."Diva" Ms. Tina Turner was there too.
Patti Patti Patti America’s Gem 💎Love That Lady ❤️❤️
I always come back to this video. I love music today but I miss the soul that music use to have. I love Patti so much! Aretha Franklin was a musical genius!
My hometown favorite BROKE THE BREAKS OFF THIS SONG🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 saaaaang it Patti
Patti will take a hit song, break it down, and put it back together her way and sing it to you as if to say “this is how you should sing it and it should have been my song from the beginning.”
My fav Aretha song! Aretha doesn’t looked upset to me, she looks proud to her someone sing her song the way it was supposed to be. When you give tribute to someone you don’t do it half-assed you give your best. Aretha.knows that! Well done Patti
Pattis music and vocal skills has always literally brought me to my knees..
She’s just my all time favorite female singer of all time 💕💕.
Aretha’s emotions has always been just that unbothered and flat.
Rip!
That hug at the end felt more like yea, ok.🙄
This my baby here... I love you miss Patti😘
The one and only there will never be another like Patti
When you listen to Aretha sing this song, the experience is great. Patti can't touch the experience. Some of you just don't know good music when you hear it. Screaming is not singing... it is screaming. Aretha does not have to scream to make you feel the impact of her voice. Aretha sang this song with passion. It was written for her by her dear sister who passed away. No other singer could compare to that.
Amen tell those dummies.
Wow, goosebumps... can't believe Aretha didn't drop a tear to that performance. I thought all this rivalry was a joke but here you can see the shade' is real. Very sad and this was years ago.
+Dolly Mat Maybe she was thingking about this performance when she shaded her at the white house year before last. LOL
Watch Got 2b real and youll know why
Dolly Mat she did she tear up quite a few times
Gotta love Ms. Patti she snatched all edges and wigs this night....love me some Ms. Patti cause she’s the best
She is so extra! I love it!! ❤️😍
Master Artistry in storytelling! She told the story with every powerful emotion the lyrics demanded. #StellarPerformance
wow. she leaves me speechless. wish we had more singers around like her today. Along with Aretha and all the greats.
Patti Is so sincere when she performs, she get caught up in the music and forget about everything else... I love how she can control the audience just off her voice. The antics she pulls. And near the end how she did the high note like the background singer thats Ms.Patsy
Love what Patti did with it! But, Aretha's soulful rendition got me all in. No need to compare, two different styles. From 2 extremely talented ladies. 🤩🤩 Nothing but Joy that I grew up with singers like That! 👏👏👏
Who's watching september 2019? The best.
Patti's a BEAST. My vocal chords would have popped. Bravo!!!
I remember watching this performance and I also thought that Aretha was not appreciative of this outstanding performance??.This was one of Patti's best performances in my opinion..Patti will show up and show out!. I detected a little jealousy...which it shouldn't have been..I have to admit Patti killed this song!!
Wow so many legends in one room Patti, Aretha, Tina, and I'm sure some more. Gives me goosebumps! These ladies are the truth.
Patti Beautiful ❤️ Voices
