I went to a funeral here in D.C where the deceased left instructions for the mourners stand and send her off singing Zoom. We all felt her mood because it fit her perfectly.
IceMan: mine too, I'm with you. From Lionel's amazing range and phrasing, to the fellas' background vocals, to the instrumentation (man, those horns and strings!), this is hands down my favorite Commodores' song).
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. As a teenager in the late 70’s, I listened to this very often. Lionel Richie really had so much talent. ❤
This song gave me the courage to leave Germany at 21 to find my happiness. I used to live in a high-rise and my bedroom allowed me a tiny sliver of sky view if I laid on my bed just so. I was 15 and used to let this song whisk me away. It has a very special meaning for me. When the aircraft door closed on my flight to America this song was roaring in my mind. Zoom...
The year was 1977 and the hits from this album were Easy & Brick House. Zoom was not a single but everybody knew and loved this song. They killed it in concert!
summer 1977 at IUP. big time hit from the boys from alabama.. HBCU`s glory from TUSKEGEE college... lionel on lead vocal and they really played the instruments. no computers and autotune. TALENT..
When "Zoom "was released ,it had a special feel.Such a song was not expected from the commodores. The title itself made you expect something more upbeat, but it turned out to be soooo smooth and soothing.I love Lionel's voice. Great song to put on when you're driving.
It's been more than 40 years since this song was released and it is still one of my favorites. It's so Zen! I remember a cookout at Virginia Beach with this playing.
19 years old....sitting in a bar with my best friend and her roomate *Vernon* ....I requested this and the dj played it....Vernon and I sang the whole song at the top of our lungs....we stayed until the bar closed.....we each went home....on their way home they were in a head on collision with a Semi Truck on a dark highway...both were instantly killed....We all were so happy that tragic night...I love this song....RIP Ms Dunn and Vernon..
Bridget Law hard to thumb up your comment. I can imagine this song is a double edged sword to you. It’s moving to me without any event tied to it. I believe some day you will see your friends again. But not as an abstract thought. But very literally. Peace and love to you.
1977....Im 12 yrs old and on our way to the zoo with 6 of my cousins.....my uncle had a old school 70's van....playing the new Commodores record(8-track)..🤣...all the way there. One of my best memories is all of us singing"Zoom"....Im 56 yrs old now and the only one of us from that trip thats still alive. Started to tear up at first, but sad tears turned to happy tears as the memories from that trip came flooding back. Thank you young brother. Wishing you all the success with your channel.❤👍✌
When people listen to a song that affects them like this. Where you can't describe it, leaves you speechless. That is musical genius! I feel you brother! He groovin' ain't he! LOL!☺
Omg!!! I love this song!!! Lionel Richie has one of the most distinctive voices in r&b; a couple of other hits by the Commodore is Jesus is Love and Lady. Zoom was written along with Ronald LaPread of the Commodores after the death of his first wife Kathy, at age 23 from cancer; oh yes, it brought tears to my eyes!!! It it such a beautiful and melancholy song that Lionel Richie poured his heart into; you picked a great song JJ!!! I'm so proud of you!!!
Thank you!!! I'm so glad I didn't have to burn up your channel requesting this song countless times!!! This is THAT song when you talk about spacing a song out and the creation of it. They have at least three versions of this song and I like this one and the shortened version as well. Haven't heard this in over 40 years until recently and due to my brother's passing years ago I decided to memorialize him with songs I have heard with him. Thank you for listening and doing this. V out. ✌🏾
Another masterpiece💽 that was in constant rotation in our barracks while DEPLOYED OVERSEAS "76-78", definitely a mood booster for us !! Man O Man the Memories!!!! 🔥🔥🔥 #MilitaryDays🇺🇲Hooah💪
Songs like "zoom"show just why the Commodores were so popular. Lionel Richie ,has so many great hits,But this group is fantastic.Loved groups that had horns.
My mama's little sister was the biggest Commodores and Isley Brothers fan of all time, and my auntie is the one who introduced both groups to me when I was little starting my love of both of them. I've always liked this song, but my favorite Commodores' song is "Sail On."
Young man my challenge to you is to go back and listen to these songs after you've had some life experience as well. I'd say around 40 years old. These old school R&B songs take on a new meaning because you can better relate. You're doing a great job by the way.
Right on brother! My favorite Commodores tune! I am glad to see the trend of reactors doing 70s Soul and Funk. I love Rock as much as anyone, but I want to see all of that good soul and Funk getting the recognition it deserves for production and vibe! Keep it going my man!! Peace!
❤💜❤💜 my top fave Commodores song...so relaxing. Lionel is Super talented. He went on to become really big in the 80's. He had several popular love songs that were first dance songs at weddings.
4:14-4:30 beautiful,.. I like your channel you feel and interpret music different and you’re so young....Kudos young man Much Respect I will watch all your reviews I was a 70’s baby and I listened to all genres and still do Music makes me happy
I love how the same song can mean different things to a person at different stages of that individual’s life. This is definitely one of those songs for me. Listening to this in my teens feels like it was a completely different song listening to it now. That’s what you call timeless, GREAT music.?🎼 🎶 I’d also recommend, if you haven’t already, reacting to “Love Will Find a Way” from when Lionel Richie later went solo after his days with the Commodores. That song also has the same effect for me. Also, you mention production a lot, and certainly that is part of what makes a studio-recorded song come out well. Yet “back in the day“ it really was even MORE about the actual REAL talent and musicianship behind the production, especially with those elite bands like the Commodores and EWF. “Zoom” is one of my life anthems.
One of the baddest songs of the 70s!!!! Actually one of my favorite songs of all time I don't even like to listen to it that much that's how much I like this cut
I just Lionel was at his best when with The Commodore. All of their music was on point. I like "This Is Your Life"too. I remember slow dancing. Wow good to see a young person enjoying this music. Where can I submit suggestions of music to review
This was the jam this is what brought them to the top of the hill and they never looked back. Saw them multiple times their performances were legendary God love those groups. ‼️❤️❤️
Very good group/band! The 70's had some incredible bands: Commodores, Rufus, Maze, EWF, Slave,Brass Construction,Barkays, Isley Bros, Jacksons, Parliment, Funkadelic, LTD, War, Kool and the Gang...I could go on but you get my point... etc... incredible music! Then you had the groups and individual stars...the crazy thing about it JJ, is that NOBODY sounded alike. If you heard the lead singing voice you knew who it was...unlike today, where artists sound identical with the advent of Auto Toons!! The mechanical falsetto of the guys trying to sound younger than they are (imitating puberty) is ridiculous.
This was a nice Cruising song when we used to Cruise Low And Slow on South Central Ave in Phoenix Arizona back in 1977. And it was a good make out song because it had a long version.
I still have this album from when I got it in junior high 1977... I'm 61 and love listenung to my albums from the 70's. Another great Commodores song is 'Just To Be Close To You' and 'Sweet Love'.
I'm on my second listen! When they're talking about Zoom, they're talking flight beyond this atmosphere! That's why some of the sounds were meant to communicate space travel! Wow! That was deep!!!
My mother used to play this for me when I was a very small child. You know how kids always like the catchy stuff? So when they do the zoom at the end I used to go crazy. Still love that part. A more beautiful time in this world I think
Very much appreciated this review. There’s nothing like this song. Imagine listening to this on a warm summer night. Just cruising. A few minutes of leaving our problems behind and just basking in the moment.
The one thing about the 60,70 & 80’s. Mostly every song was compose almost like using a whole orchestra. Real music... you hear those violins and horns? And, I think they used a xylophone and several heart instruments. Real music. I was the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame official archive videographer.... filming the greatest entertainers in world for 10 years. Listening to their stories on the music industry... what they went through and persevered.(Performance)
Lionel Richie before he went solo and became a SUPERSTAR.....Commodores were part of the 70s R&B funk wave that were happening at that time....they had crossover success but it was all Lionel....here are a few other hits they had that you might want to react to Brickhouse Easy Three Times A Lady Slippery When Wet
It's not true but I FEEL like Lionel Richie doesn't get enough credit for his song writing. PLEASE LISTEN TO HIS SONG "Heroes". Perhaps the most under-rated song ever written.
I went to a funeral here in D.C where the deceased left instructions for the mourners stand and send her off singing Zoom. We all felt her mood because it fit her perfectly.
That’s powerful 🙏🏼
That is very cool❤
My favorite song by The Commodores...this song is soul touching.
And that’s why it’s called soul music
I know right?
I love the live version from ‘77. So great.
Where my mind can see fresh and clear, makes my eyes water all these years later, GREAT

Great song to put on when you're driving.
Saw them live and this song was the highlight of the night for me. My all-time favorite by them.
Some songs are just simply.....PERFECTION....and could not have been done any better!! This is one of them!
It's been more than 40 years since this song was released and it is still one of my favorites. It's so Zen! I remember a cookout at Virginia Beach with this playing.
I was a little kid back then. Remember going through my friend's older brother's albums seeing the album cover.
In total agreement. Btw Ms. Rhone, are you any relation to Sylvia Rhone? Probably none of my business, just being nosey... lol

Tragic loss...I'm sorry for your loss
✌🏽💗
Sooo sad
Wow unreal 😢
One of the best best Commodores songs. Gets better and better as the song plays on.
Lionel, Lionel Lionel. Commodores at their at best. It’s moments like this that proves old school was the best music. 🔥🔥 Keep it coming JJ!

Yeah true
Best song Lionel Ritchie as ever sung.
My favorite Commodores cut...I slow danced to this song for the first time with my wife in 1977...unforgetable
Omg!!! I love this song!!! Lionel Richie has one of the most distinctive voices in r&b; a couple of other hits by the Commodore is Jesus is Love and Lady. Look up the very sad back story to how the words of this song came to them close to when the wife of the drummer died of cancer.
My favorite Commodore song.

I start acting a certain type of way when this song comes on!
Yeah I feel you
Fact. I start acting a certain type of way whenever Lionel Ritchie comes on.
For real.🔥🎯☮️
Brings back memories riding in my car listening to the 8 track Commodores live in Atlanta mid late70s
Just found this on spotify, i cant stop playing it on my way to work
Songs like "zoom"show just why the Commodores were so popular.

Your aunt is a smart lady. Lol. Two of my favorite groups as well.
Young man my challenge to you is to go back and listen to these songs after you've had some life experience as well. I'd say around 40 years old. These old school R&B songs take on a new meaning because you can better relate. You're doing a great job by the way.
Respect to you for covering the classics. We can't loose the recipes!
Right on brother! My favorite Commodores tune! I am glad to see the trend of reactors doing 70s Soul and Funk. I love Rock as much as anyone, but I want to see all of that good soul and Funk getting the recognition it deserves for production and vibe! Keep it going my man!! Peace!
Their best song IMO - a true 70’s soul jam.
❤💜❤💜 my top fave Commodores song...so relaxing. Lionel is Super talented. He went on to become really big in the 80's. He had several popular love songs that were first dance songs at weddings.
You can't go wrong w/ the Commodores. Enjoyed watching your reaction. Gorgeous Song. Also consider "Sweet Love" by them.
My favorite is Sweet Love.
This was a very popular slow dance on skates song back in St. Louis in the 70's. This was an urban classic back then!!!
4:14-4:30 beautiful,.. I like your channel you feel and interpret music different and you’re so young....Kudos young man Much Respect I will watch all your reviews I was a 70’s baby and I listened to all genres and still do Music makes me happy
This song was made in 1977 , we are at 2021 and we’re all still searching for that freedom
This song was a slow jam classic
I love how they harmonize at the end of the song end of the song !! "Zoom Zoom, well I'd like to fly away"
-Definitely my favorite Commodores song.

This song was written by the entire group and arranged by Milan Williams.
This was the jam this is what brought them to the top of the hill and they never looked back. Saw them multiple times their performances were legendary God love those groups. ‼️❤️❤️

The great Lionel Richie on lead vocals. You should do more Commodores music. Sail On, Three Times A Lady, Still
Also some of Lionel's solo work
Lionel Richie kill it in this song 👍🏾👍🏾 a slow jam classic
This kinda puts me in the mind of Earth Wind, and Fire a little. Has deeply spiritual aire to it. I love this song.
Song put a tear in my eye!!! TOO BEAUTIFUL, the lyrics can only be touched only by Stevie Wonder! Lionel Ritchie is a Songwriting Genius!
Commodores Live 1977 is legendary!
Great song by commodores ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
I saw them in concert many years ago. It was fantastic.
One of the greatest 70s groups that produced Lionel Richie. Saw him in concert a few years ago and he's STILL GOT IT!!!
I still have this album from when I got it in junior high 1977... I'm 61 and love listenung to my albums from the 70's. Another great Commodores song is 'Just To Be Close To You' and 'Sweet Love'.
My favorite Commodores song
This whole album is so much fun to listen to. I collected every album they ever made.

Awesome song and now everyone is zooming. It makes you think The Commodores were way ahead of their time.
This was good roller skating rink music. One of my favorites by them.

Yes, I use to have that one on repeat.
This is still a favorite song by the Commodores to me. I’m glad your reaction was so positive. Thanks so much.
Glad you enjoyed it among so many others!

This takes me back when life was carefree and you looked forward to the weekends to see your girl.

How about "Heaven Knows" by the Commodores? Has change ups in it. You may like it.
If you feel in love with Zoom, Try listening to "Say Yeah" or "Heaven Knows" by the Commodores.
You should check out Voyage to Atlantis by the Isley Brothers! It has a similar vibe.
NOW THAT'S...GOOD PREACHIN'
Check out "Firecracker" by Mass Production.
It's not true but I FEEL like Lionel Richie doesn't get enough credit for his song writing. PLEASE LISTEN TO HIS SONG "Heroes". Perhaps the most under-rated song ever written.
