I just purchased from FunKenya the Zero Zone TPA 3255 with the 2nd power supply option. There is an option to add the XLR and 2nd power supply on the sales page. I also ordered two LC5 opamps. I had a $60 coupon. So for both mono blocks and two power supplies and two LC5 opamps it was a little less than $500 with tax and shipping. Amazing….! Thank you very much for providing all of your knowledge and reviews.

I want to share a brief history of my experience with theses amps. Bought them on an Ali sale after your video in August. At that time I used the Aiyima 07 max in mono mode with the 48V power supply on my TB W8-1808s (self made OB with 2 18" Faital subwoofers per side). This was a match made in heaven. After only a few hours of burn in I changed the amps to the ZZ TPA and I wasn`t impressed. Counldn`t hear any differnce between both amps. Then I inserted the LC5 op amps which I bought at the same time. Holy moly! They made all the difference. The sound got so much better in all points. I think changing the op amps is a must. YMMV. A last note. These amps,op amps or both need extremely long time for burn in. At least 500 hours. Now after propably 1000 hours of use, sometimes I think they still improve . Hope that helps. And for those who are familiar: Heute ist nicht alle Tage... P.S. Did you notice that your "neighbour" Grzegorz from VirtualHIFI/Qualio now produces op amps? Maybe worth to review them.
@@michaelcampbell9459 ZeroZones are better than A07 even with cheap stock 5532, but they will show why I consider them just a notch below D5Pro with better - class A preferred - opamps.
Secret Agent Man - Thanks for the great review. Have an exotic beer on me. Just don’t drink while reviewing the Sparkos 2590 Op Amps or the V3 monos versus these amps, or until you can finish your amp and preamp (or power cable) comparisons. Wow- you are busy!!
I would absolutely love to hear an A/B comparison video with these and the Fosi V3 Mono's. I already have a pair of the Fosi's with 2 48V 10 amp power supplies and I'd love to have some pointers about whether to further upgrade the op amps in them or just move on to these and roll the op amps in them instead....
@@pauljoyce4857 I'm in the exact same boat and would like to know if better to upgrade the Fosi V3 Monos or these; I have the V3 Monos with upgraded Muse 02 and the Muse helped but feel that power is lacking on the Fosi for my power hungry maggies. A previous post said these are better than his ZA3's so will assume they are also better than our V3 Monos, but not sure how much better as the Fosi are a bit cheaper.
Thank you, thank you! I came across these on Ali Express about two months ago and saw your review two days ago. I think ZeroZone TPA3255 is exactly what I need.
@@YanniEhm Because I was really surpised, I got them on recommendation, I expected them to be good, ok, as I trust the guy, but I was surprised they are SO good! Still in my top 4, top 5! And with that price probably top 2!
Oi Vey!! My ZeroZone TPA3255 separate mono speaker amplifier set arrived (rather promptly) today. Coincidently, so did the 2 set of the Staccato OSH-DHb Discrete Opamps. Just as you said in the review, a truly remarkable amp set and opamp upgrade!! I played the set out of the box for quite a while. I was impressed immediately. Then I swapped out the opamps! What a HUGE Difference! - Made me laugh out loud when I first fired them up. Really opened up the sound stage breadth, depth, detail and added a lot of appropriate richness to the sound. You are so right. Live music sounds spectacular - decays & all. What a huge Bang for the Buck overall. Amazing. I have done the same on the Aiyima A07 and a pair of the Fosi Audio ZA3s including upgrading the opamps with Sparkos SS3602 Discrete Duals. I am really appreciating the Class A sound. I can only imagine the improvements a couple of hundred hours of break-in time will do. This already sounds better than the ZA3s (yes, the A/B'ing has already started). I encourage you to revisit this with another video assuming you upgrade the components esp. the Caps. Would love to hear how that goes. Well Done!! BTW - Your videos started me down the clone amp (Accuphase E406) & preamp (Accuphase C245) rabbit hole also. Very dangerous! Yes. It is all your fault! :)
Thanks! I'm happy that you like it, as you say this combo is truly remarkable and doesn't sound like D class at all. I already have the caps for the upgrade so there will be a video on that for sure. And yes, I'm still chasing that cloned rabbit too :D
Wonderful information. Your videos are invaluable for those looking to get good quality performance at more affordable pricing. Not everyone can spend $$$ on audio systems.
Thank you very much. I liked especially the comparison with opamps and other gear. Zerozone offers also the bare components (pcb boards), 57 euro each, so i will go DIY with these; Incredible value for the money. Thanks.

Wow, I do appreciate the offer, I really shouldn’t though. I honestly don’t need any more amplifiers. I actually have many of the TPA 3255 models. Thanks again though!
@@gregthibodeaux7992 Curious Greg, mind telling me your asking? BTW, the cables connecting power supply to amps...are they locking aviation plugs? Not familiar at with them.
By the way, I don’t know about all subwoofers but you can connect Rel subwoofers via high level connections with the hot wires on the + speaker out and the ground to the chassis screw.
Hi! I would start with DAC - the impact will be biggest there, but I would also replace opamps in amplifiers - again, level up. But in DAC its a must as long as its using nasty 5532. I hate these ;)
I used to have Martin Logan Sequel 2s, and the best amp I found for them was a pair of Classe Audio DR10 stereo amp running in bridged mono mode. Either Stereophile or Absolute sound said that switching to bridged mono was like switching to a Ferrari. They are a bit hard to find, but I have seen them for around $500USD occasionally.
@@TheRsxer63 yes these do need RAW POWER to shine. They don't seem to use these power reserves though like with loud listening, but something in large beasts makes them sing. So far I also have two 851W for them running in mono bi amp mode, in this config these are like 420 or 500W per channel
I have a Zero Zone FM783 Schumann Resonance Generator. It changes the sound of my system by condensing and smoothen the speaker’s signal. I prefer the openness of sound with it off. However, it’s easier to listen to while it’s turned on.
I got cheap Schumann generator a year or two ago. Honestly, I am afraid to use it, theres no doubt that this actually works, but with me the effect is different. I am getting relaxed to the point of being very very sleepy and thats after just 10 minutes of having it powered on. I get that being relaxed helps with music listening (thats why I need to be rested and relaxed to do any serious review listening session) but that level of sleepines scares me! (and proves that it works, though effect that it has on me doesnt exactly help :) )
Interesting that they used 50v caps in the amp cases. Those are running close to their voltage limit if they are running at 48v. 50V caps will discharge faster than 63V ones though which might help.
@@ryanchappell5962 yes and as I've checked actual load on power line (via Tuya smart plug) it's very small, so there should be no sudden caps voltage changes either, just a stable load.
The pricerange is sensationell!! Look at similar Class D Power Amps from the best, but most underrated Brands like BOXEM AUDIO, AUDIOPHONICS, XTZ etc. - not mentioned the "Ultra stuff" like Jeff Rowland Audio Group (JRAG) - from the price prospective this offer is A HAMMER!!
I am on the fence with these TPS3255 or the D5-Pro. In your opinion which have better bass control (higher dampen factor). Which better midrange/ trouble. My system i am currently building is open baffle with the bass drivers being an 15" sub/woofer. Midrange is 12" fullrange matched AMT tweeter. They will be bi-ampes. So wasI thinking to do an D5-pro for the Mid/tweeter and the TPS3255 for the sub/woofers. I have more then few discrete op-amps to choose from for the TPS3255. Or honestly, if you have any other recommendations from your test, please feel free to recommend. I've honestly even thought about going all active and using three amps to drive each set of speakers. Thanks for all your help and knowledge in advance.
If you can afford both, go for that and use them together or separately (if you'll decide one is better for your scenario). IMHO TPA3255 from zeroZone is trading blows with D5Pro, but you need better opamps there. And that raises the costs. And its trading blows but its not the winner of that match. But they are very, very good on their own! So, if you can, go for both and decide as they are really close.
@k4syx thanks for your reply. I have several discrete op-amps on hand so the op-amp part is not an issue. But you still think the D5 Pro has better bass control vs the TPA3255? Class D usually has a bit better control over the lower octaves when all is even. Your thoughts on the 2. I for sure decided to go with the 2860 Plus Pre-Amp mainly for the same reason as you said the number of outputs and true balanced and discrete operation. I'm buying 2 units regardless. 2 D5 Pro or 2 sets of TPA3255 or one of each. Maybe even 3 units. As my system is using active Crossovers.
@@mark120371 I think control of the bass is slightly better on TPAs (but that would highly depend on speakers), but bass quality is slightly better on D5Pro. Please share your thoughts when you will compare them, ok? Thanks!
Sounds like a plan. But honestly I had time to watch all your videos now, for pure bass performance it looks like the Burmester 933 or the FM801 would be the go to for pure bass control and quality. And from your review at the moment for my active 3 way setup it looks like: 2 FM801- 1 for bass and 1 for midrange being feed balance input from the 2860+ pre-amp And 1 D5 pro for highs. This just might be the ultimate amp pre-amp setup, well for me anyways. Which would set me back about $2500-2700 for the just amps and $3100-3300 with the pre-amp shipped to me here in the US Honestly not bad considering I do high Car Audio competition and 1 of my Audio Wave Aspire amplifiers cost me the price of all 4 of these components. Guess that until your complete review on the A75 Accuphass clone. But I like the looks of the FM801 and D5 Pro better. I just think the A75 is going to be a beast in all regards. I really want to do this once this time around right now. My wife is going to kill me, I invested so much in my car system. That I have a budget this time around for this listening room setup. $10k max is my budget for everything from source to speakers. Luckily I am in the transducer industry also. So getting raw drivers is not an issue. So I started looking for all the products that perform well above their price range and what I did was set myself a budget that no one product could cost more than $1,500 shipped to me. I was thinking " this is going to a small system" that was until I started seeing reviews on these clones and I was "YES" I can build what I want at the level I want within my set budget. And you channel is the best for all the clones reviews, SO THANK YOU SIR!!!
@@mark120371 Thank you! I was into car audio myself about a decade ago now, until at some point I realized that with properly done exhaust, properly tuned end silencers I was listening to the engine more than my music when I was driving =)
I added the LC5 with extenders to these amps and lined up the little dot near the number 1 with the notch side of the base part so hopefully they are installed correctly; I assume if incorrect then they would sound bad. They sound ok but are even more rolled off in the hi's than the previous MUSE02 I had in, which also sounded a bit rolled off. The MUSE02 were already burned in but I only have about 20-30 hours on the LC5, will these LC5 open up after more burn in as they currently sound pretty dark?
If you would turn them the other way around they would probably fry, its very important to align them properly because the power lines are at specific connectors. LC5s are class A amps so they do need some time to open up (80-100h? I didnt measure with mine). But they should not sound more rolled off compared to muses as far as I remember mine. Let them play for like a two days and I hope it will be fine. But I have to admit its weird. I love open treble (as I am electrostat fan) and that was one of the qualities I love about these amps. I like them so much that last week I got second power supply for them to have them fully mono.
@@k4syx Thanks, LC5 probably sounds a bit rolled off compared to the MUSE02 because the 02 was already burned in; I'll put some more hours on the LC5 and hopefully they will open up a bit more. I just assumed the little dot on LC5 would go with side of extender that has a little notch. I may try the Staccato as I believe you mentioned it was a bit warmer, and a bit warmer would be welcome but not at the expense of extension. Was adding a 2nd PS worth the extra $100 cost?
@@michaelcampbell9459 I dont know yet as I had no time to test it for differences :D Just got it unpacked and put to the rest of the setup :) Lc5 will need some burn in, but you could also try them without extenders, just to make sure there are no problems coming from that (if you are using flexible wire extenders)
@@k4syx I'm just using standard short little rigid extenders but will do more burn in on the LC5. Question: With your tall towers being at 1.2 ohm load how can the Zero Zone TPA 3255 that are rated at a 2 ohm load at 600 watts not get damaged by driving them? I’ve always been curious about how this Ohms law works. Such a great RUclips channel. Thank you.
Thanks! They go as low as 1.2Ohm at specific frequencies in treble region. The very high end that we perceive as open and airy sound. Amps that are not current efficient sound with my Ascents muddy and closed. These guys have no problem with that as these frequencies are not on the same volume all the time and they are not there all the time. And since these amps are FAST and they have big power reserves its not a problem for them.
Hi Mr Hi-fi Zone, i have watched so many of your reviews, really first class information you provide to the audio community, you deserve a commendation! My simple question, if i may, would you recommend the Zero Zone TPA amps, or the Dartzeel clone as your first choice at this point. Thanks so much
@@Junan.Reclaimed tough question. Different. This one is raw and full of detail, FM300A has better mids and scene but less detail and precision. But bear in mind that we're talking very delicate differences here, it's not like one is two times better in any given area. What kind of sound signature do you prefer?
I greatly enjoyed the review, thanks.🙂 One set-up I have includes a class A Acoustic Invader preamp with an ICEpower XTZ Edge A2-300 class D power amp. The latter drives a DIY pair of Decware Zen Master ZF15M open baffle clones (95+ dB sensitivity). I use a REL T0 sub (via hi-level Speakon connector grounded to the power amp's case) to enhance the Bass a bit, but not too much because I'm not a basshead. I really fancy trying the ZeroZone stack, but the great thing about the A2-300 is that is has a gain control which I can set so as to retain a good degree of rotation of the preamp's volume control. The ZeroZone stack doesn't have gain control. Is there by any chance any kind of external attenuation/gain control device one can add to it? I'm concerned that I'd max out the ZF15M speakers when the preamp's volume control had barely rotated above minimum, you see.
@@k4syx Yes, I do have to for the ZF15M open baffles. Still works well with much less sensitive box speakers like my Quad Revela 1's -- just need to dial up the preamp's volume control somewhat. It's funny, but when you described the sound of the ZeroZone stack, It's how I would describe the sound of the A2-300 -- not at all class D-like. Maybe the class A preamp helps, not sure. But the ZeroZones are dual mono and I haven't yet tried that -- it might make things even better. They're inexpensive enough (£248 in the UK) to take a punt, but would be nice if there were some way to attenuate their output.

Wish you had shown how to remove the cover. I see the philips head screws on back, looks like you just remove the top ones of those, but the front are not philips head or a standard hex head, how to remove the front two top screws, does it require a special tool???
The front ones are AFAIR standard HEX type, nothing fancy about them? You just need to undo front and back top ones and then maybe get one pair of the lower ones slightly loose to be able to lift the top cover without scratching fron or back plates
@@k4syx Thanks, I'm in America so had to go and buy a set of metric hex tools; if anyone reads this you need a #3 metric hex tool and don't use standard American hex tools as it could strip out the bolt heads.
@@michaelcampbell9459 Exactly, thats why I have a set of both standards :D These are very very similiar but as you say using the worng one will damage the bolt heads. Someone else mentioned using SX52B as they are a lot cheaper but not sure how they compare. Others have mentioned using Burson or Sparkos and I wonder how those compare to the Staccato you liked if anyone has tested multiple opamps like this?
I just got SX52B and OracleII-02 so I hope to be able to answer that one soon. I got them as both of them are smaller and can fit some tight places. Oracle is hybrid though, meaning reagular OPA in SOP inside but with some external discrete components. SX52B is full discrete.
Validating and encouraging for you to say these sound very good! Also highly favorable over ZA3’s in mono mode in a review by tnt audio reviews. I’m curious about something like these to try and then try a diy upgrade on the components you’d pointed out here (although I’m super rusty with soldering!). And SO COOL that you can also change opamps in these. Wondering, possible to setup two subs left and right via high level inputs? 🙏🏼
I think that would be possible but you need to dig a little on connecting d class to subs with high level inputs. I think there was something that could make problems, depending on amp working mode (the +/- speaker outputs can be balanced meaning that - does not refer to 0 level) - but I dont remember details so I may be wrong. Definetely something to research. But you can also connect subs with your source RCA outputs, in parallel to XLRs. Thats what I always do ;)
@@k4syx Thanks so much, this helps! Reason for asking was that for as much as I love my preamp, it only has one set of variable xlr outputs, no variable rca unfortunately.
@@michaelcampbell9459 I don’t think RUclips likes it when you supply links in comments, but you kind find it searching tnt review of Fosi za3. It mentions the zero zone amps as sounding much better. Hi! I would recommend Cary SLP-90: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DcRTCoh or (same seller, has two shops) s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DFbLAPB Ive added that to video description as these is the question that had come up a few times already. As for opamp: these amps use dual opamps (ne5532 stock) so you have no choice really, it has to be double opamp.
Adding a 2nd SMPS for dual power is extra $100, has anyone compared this to just getting the one SMPS that comes with it and if so was it worth it or just stick with one SMPS?
Hello and good day. I’m thinking of purchasing these Zero Zone TPA3255 amplifiers since the sound quality is very close to the D5PRO but these run cooler, require less space for ventilation and also have swappable opamps. Question at low level late night listening does the sound quality remain just as good as it is at higher listening levels? Also during your listening demo was the amplifier in stock form or did you swap out the opamps? I have to say I personally think your English is getting better. Plus you have a great accent I enjoy listening to. Hello again from Orlando Florida USA 🇺🇸. Yes I live very close to Mickey Mouse and Disney World lol 👍🏻.
Thank you for your kind words :) I was doing all listening test first with stock 5532 and then with better opamps to hear what the amps are really capable of. They are as detailed and precise with lower volume levels as with higher ones. And these are really, really cool, I was eve using them for a while stacked just to see if they will get warm but no: they were still cool!
@ Gotcha so in typical 2.1 listening you basically set the sub at a level and forget about it. You want to set it so the sub is not over powering the left and right channels and also so the subwoofer isn’t locatable in the room. Have a great day.
@@michaelcampbell9459 these are barely warm to the touch with my electrostats (also difficult load). I was surprised by this and low power usage actually. I've expected it to be way warmer
Not yet. Ive ordered three preamps more (two of them tube based) and checking them out with full sets is still ahead of me. For now, I can say that these stay with me regardless of the final result of my quest for ultimate clone (same as MFA1 clone) as the price is ridiculous compared to what these offer. I know in theory separating the power supply is a good thing but then again, the 2 power supplies look a lot more substantial in a bigger box and with lack of associated circuitry compared to 3 box design. So maybe they perform better? Your thoughts on the potential of these please?
Ive seen them, two separate power supplies are better (and more expensive) but the best way is to get another power supply for these I reviewed here (its possible to order two by messaging seller). This way you get all the positives of having two separate power supplies and they are also separated from amps and closed in their own cases that will work as additional shielding
If wanting to put these close to speakers should I get two PS instead of one, or get two longer power cables to one PS? If longer cables which ones to look for on Ali? With 800w would a second PS even be needed/noticeable and worth the extra cost? Thanks :)
@@michaelcampbell9459 longer cables are cheaper, but additional PSU will get you complete channel separation. I think I'd rather go for two power supplies.
Do you know anything about the Berlasse TS-12 Monoblocks the shop is also selling? They are A/B 250 watts into 8 Ohms and 400 into 4ohm. They look good to me.
Yes they look good and I was (and am) tempted to get a set because of very good price. Interesting thing is Berlasse is apparently local branding, and these seem not to be clones but locally designed. They look good internally and externally (also true for other Berlasse branded stuff I saw on Ali) Which can mean that they are either really great or really bad - enigma untill someone tries them :)
Changing op amps is a game changer, not something i can do with my xtz a2 400 but it sounds fabulous on my Yamaha 1000m with Cambridge 851n as dac and pre-amp, so i need convincing to change up ..
@@k4syx yes, totally! as the rest of your videos, you take your time to explain everything in great detail and in a easy way to understand!! I wasn't aware the the OAMPs were replaceable on these ones, this is a plus. They are so tempting. Do these amps also run in PFFB mode like the v3 mono / a70 max? or it is not necessary here? well if it drives the Logans then it should be good anyway
@@karilindis No there's no info on PFFB here so I guess they don't use that. I wonder why is this optional and not always on by default. It does improve the sound - at least the A70 sounds better than all previous versions - but what's the reason for pffb not being enabled by default? I couldn't find anything on that in TI whitepapers.
@@k4syx haha, indeed, this it was I thought from watching your review! I was only curious about that feature since like you said it, it should improve performance, and since these ones are performing great... When is Ali running the next sale season?
I have the Zero Zone Class D mono's. Each mono amp carries it's own power supply and I think the chip set is of German origin. So slightly different from the amps on review here.
Probably Infineon Merus based - these also do get rave reviews, two black boxes with no markings but a lot of positive reviews from Germany. I saw whem and I was seriously wondering about getting them!
I got them as two mono boards. Skipped opamps feeding the differential signal from Dac with Sparkos SS2590 output stage to the empty pads of the extracted coupling caps. Fantastic sound.
Good morning; Congratulations on the thoroughness of your technical and sound reviews. I am writing to you from the north of Italy because I would like to know the exact acronym of the best OPERATIONAL chips you tested and whether they can be found on AliExpress or on other external sites. Regarding a second power supply, to be inserted to the first one; is it sold individually or do you have to buy two identical ones after market? if so which ones? Thank you.
Hi! Thanks! Power supply: ask the seller first, as this is the simplest way to get two matching PSs. Other than than - aftermarket is full of these made for Fosi or Aiyima so youd need to reterminate them (10 minutes job). Opamps - operational amplifiers - Staccato on the manufacturer portal or ebay, LC5 - Aliexpress. OPA627 - also Ali :)
Just saw your video and I'm very intrigued, however, I have very limited knowledge. Currently I have speakers and an AV receiver which to my knowledge combines all components. Now I want to upgrade, though I want to spend as little as possible for good amplification. My dream speakers are Dali Epikon 2, which I could get for 3000€ rougly. What components would you recommend for me to buy? Would this amplifier be enough to power the speakers plus a power supply?
Epikons are great, ZeroZones would be good set for them, but if you can stretch your budget go for DartZeel clone that I've reviewed (D5Pro) as it is even better that these: though more expensive. Then get Cary SLP-90 preamp for that and some qood DAC and that kind of setup will mop the floor with your AVR setup ;)
Have you ever heard Epikons? If so do you remember anything by chance? Also I saw you used the Dartzeel first without preamp and now with. Is there a good difference? Man now I'm tempted... That sounds great albeit expensive even though it's Chifi but that's probably end level for electronics for me. Do you have any recommendations for DACSs? Also currently my TV is the only source I have and I also use multichannel with AVR. Is there a way to maybe use this dedicated components and multichannel setup in parallel?
Also, if I would split stereo and multichannel use with a dedicated streamer / Dac. How could I integrate a subwoofer in there? Because the AVR is not handling anything then anymore?
@@SalvadorZerker If youd be splitting channels, then you should have a dedicated split for LFE channel too at the device that would be capable of 5.1 decoding?
@@SalvadorZerker I've heard Epikons just two times and I want to have them some day in my collection ;) With Cary preamp D5Pro gets even better, its superb match. TV as a source would be a limiting factor here, you should definetely get a good quality DAC for such setup. Whats your budget? You could use preamp and power amp with your avr, just get front preouts connected via RCA with one set of preamp inputs and remember to set the same volume on preamp each time so it will match other channels when changing vol on avr
Can I ask for an opinion? Are you familiar with the Fosi V3 Monoblocs? I was very taken with this review on the TPA3255 class D monoblocs, in your opinion would these be an upgrade from the Fosi V3's? Thanks for any help you can give
Hi I’m really enjoying your insightful gaze and research into these new components!! Love the videos, curious I’m on the fence and itching for another power amp. I’ve got this Musician Audio Monoceros preamp and looking for an amp, have tried with a parasound 2125 nope A cheap class D from Currrent Audio 2150- snappy a but limiting, so I’m searching. Curious between Dartzeel NHB-108 D5Pro now D9 with XLR outs or the Zero Zone TPA 3255 mono blocks, current speakers are Musician Audio Knight 1 4ohm 86db, looking for holographics detail and liquidity any ideas or thoughts are much appreciated.
DartZeel is excellent so that's my blind recommendation, but if youd have some spare funds get these mono blocks too, they are cheaper and also excellent. Different, maybe not liquid, but holography and detail in spades
Hey Thanks so much for getting back to me! I really appreciate it. Not sure I can swing both right now especially if the TPA 3255 really needs the upgraded opamps, also confident in soldering the caps. I keep putting together more systems (partnering them), and I think I’ll probably be looking for some more full range speakers for the Musician preamp set up. Crazy hobby! Equipment is kinda piling up. (Willsenton r8w/psvane, Linton’s, node, project carbon, clone EAR834-happy with this setup. I’m still on the fence but itching. Thanks again
stacked one on top of another 20x16x25 cm (roughly). These are very compact, if you dont need to see blue status lights on amps you can hide them as well somewhere in the back and access only power supply block.
@@michaelcampbell9459 Nothing in the power supply, and I think one per channel in each amp (that should be visible in the video though, so please make sure)
@@k4syx How do I know if the Muse02 opamps I have are safe to try as I wouldn't want a potential fire hazard, or are all 8 prong opamps basically safe to try?
Others have tested Mono 3255 with good results putting an additional Capacitor Rectification bank in series can also boost the available power to reach that 300 watts in peak as it pulls from the reserve. Higher grade capacitors work better on PreAmp decoupling
@@ruslanmulyk8601 Hi! I have one :) I just didn't think about measuring output power, because the more important question is if the amp can drive my electrostats good enough. So it's less meaningful for me if actual power output is 90, 120 or 300W. But the idea is good, I'll think about adding output power measurements!
@@ruslanmulyk8601 yes I know, but that will have to be done with some simulated load (I won't use real speakers). I do have some high wattage resistors but these will simulate only R component of the Z. Will have to ghetto mod some sort of crossover sim :)

Anyone try the new Douk Audio A100 yet? I just received it 2 weeks ago when they were offering their introductory price. Got it for $90 shipped. If that deal wasn't there I would have let it pass. Glad I did. Have been going down the tpa3255 rabbit hole. First Aiyima A07(not A70) then the Fosi V3(which was better) and now this A100. In my system the A100 is definitely a step forward. The mids are so much nicer-lusher! Actually an incredible step forward. Some recordings I have listened to via Qobuz have never sounded as good to my ears with the A100. I do have a nice tube preamplifier (Eastern Electric Minimax) in front. Sound is amazing. Speakers are Mirage OM9 omnidirectional floorstanders. @@k4syx Do you feel there is a burn in period of time with these class D amps? If so how long of time would you say? I have noticed that you run many of these other clone amps for weeks before evaluating. That is an awesome practice that I appreciate knowing. Was wondering if the same amount of time would be necessary with these class D amps? Probably at about 70 hours on the Douk Audio A100 received last week. Was wondering if there were any possible changes to yet come or not? Guess the caps need burn it but ignorant if the chips themselves would benefit? Thank you
@@RUMBLEGO1 From my experience class D requires less burn in and the results are not as spectacular as with class A or AB. Nevertheless I give all my amps at least whole full week (when I can two) to level the playing field. And its not a big problem, I can leave them playing upstairs and its not bothering anyone if I do this as I did describe in my older burn-in video with Diamonds 12.3
Yes it is, TPA3255 is natively balanced and can be switched to SE mode (that's most common in all cheaper designs). You can check it with TI whitepapers for tpa3255, a lot of interesting info there.
Hello, I know the chip from the Fosi amplifier. I don't know, I don't think it sounds good at all compared to the FM300a clone. Maybe it's different with the monos? Otherwise I think your channel is very good, I'm a big fan of Chinesecrackers. Keep up the work. Peace goes out from Germany
I have right now a Hegel h95 amp with a little dot 1+ tube amp as preamp. My speakers are the Fyne Audio f501. Is this cheap amp worth trying for some different flavor or should i stay with the Hegel? Is the stage holographic with good dynamics, separation and imaging? My dac is Mojo 2 so i think good enough. Whats your best clone recommendation? Also can i connect my rel subwoofer to these mono blocs?
@@Gilliboy82 it's definetely worth trying as it has all the qualities you've described. Mojo 2 is great, though I think little dot may be a bottleneck in your setup. Everything else is at least a one class better. No best clone so far as I haven't finished all the reviews yet. But you can't go wrong with DartZeel or these monos (though these are not clone, just an excellent D-class construction). Sub - they have no sub output. You can either use high level speaker connections if your subwoofer supports these, or better, use the second pair of DAC outputs for that
@@k4syx Last question, has this class D amp also have the musical character of a pure class A amp (for example MF A1)? It's not 'flat' sounding i hope..
@@Gilliboy82 it's not flat, but it's not as analog sounding with stock 5532. But change them for something class A discrete and you get messy of both worlds!

Yes these also do come as a DIY set, with no chassis and no power supply so you could do some nice dual mono amp in one chassis with two separate power supplies. I wonder what would be actual price difference, would that be worth it? (not counting DIYing fun as that is priceless)
The board design looks way simpler vs other TPA 3255 amp. For example fois v3 has 3 op amps per channel vs this one with one. Granted one op amp is use for RCA to XLR the RCA version of the zero zone still only has one op amp
@@kenwk2283 yes, but simple signal path may be the good thing here. Tpa3255 has native balanced input so using additional opamp just to convert from balanced to single ended may not be the best choice, though I'm sure there were reasons for that.

Two is always better and you can have two separate power supplies here. For traditional A or AB class amps transformers sometimes have two separate sets of windings, sharing flux, yes, but I wonder if having two separate trafos is that much better compared to two windings. I mean if cost is no object, then why not :)
@@andrews4379 didn't think about it this way, comparing the prices. I had them available with others, at some point in time every man has "boxes" filled with strange stuff collected over the years. I have boxes of tubes, capacitors, opamps, cables&wires, and some with small amps and DACs :)

And from your review at the moment for my active 3 way setup it looks like:
2 FM801- 1 for bass and 1 for midrange being feed balance input from the 2860+ pre-amp
And
1 D5 pro for highs.
This just might be the ultimate amp pre-amp setup, well for me anyways. Which would set me back about $2500-2700 for the just amps and $3100-3300 with the pre-amp shipped to me here in the US
Honestly not bad considering I do high Car Audio competition and 1 of my Audio Wave Aspire amplifiers cost me the price of all 4 of these components.

@@michaelcampbell9459 I dont know yet as I had no time to test it for differences :D
Just got it unpacked and put to the rest of the setup :)
Lc5 will need some burn in, but you could also try them without extenders, just to make sure there are no problems coming from that (if you are using flexible wire extenders)
@@k4syx I'm just using standard short little rigid extenders but will do more burn in on the LC5. Question:
With your tall towers being at 1.2 ohm load how can the Zero Zone TPA 3255 that are rated at a 2 ohm load at 600 watts not get damaged by driving them?

I greatly enjoyed the review, thanks.🙂
One set-up I have includes a class A Acoustic Invader preamp with an ICEpower XTZ Edge A2-300 class D power amp.
Yes these do not have any gain control whatsoever. But I think these would be similar to IcePowers you have - do you need to dial them back a lot?
A list of used equipment is missing, would be so nice to have them. Greetings and a good review again of course. :-)

Thank you for your kind words :)
I was doing all listening test first with stock 5532 and then with better opamps to hear what the amps are really capable of. They are as detailed and precise with lower volume levels as with higher ones.
And these are really, really cool, I was eve using them for a while stacked just to see if they will get warm but no: they were still cool!
@ Amazing thank you.
@ Gotcha so in typical 2.1 listening you basically set the sub at a level and forget about it. You want to set it so the sub is not over powering the left and right channels and also so the subwoofer isn’t locatable in the room.

45Hz is not that bad, if that was for -3dB.
If it was, that would mean that they actually will go lower than that, but not as loud - quieter and quieter the lower the frequency.

The specs appear the same too however they are more expensive. I wonder how this 2 box version sounds in comparison to the ones you reviewed here?
Thanks :)

Slightly, its more like they are trading blows.DartZeel will win the fight but it will be on points, no knock-out.

With Cary preamp D5Pro gets even better, its superb match.

Should have been 👍 😂
Hi I’m really enjoying your insightful gaze and research into these new components!! Love the videos, curious I’m on the fence and itching for another power amp. I’ve got this Musician Audio Monoceros preamp and looking for an amp, have tried with a parasound 2125 nope
A cheap class D from Currrent Audio 2150- snappy a but limiting, so I’m searching.
Not confident with my soldering abilities
how much total space do they take up?
stacked one on top of another 20x16x25 cm (roughly). These are very compact, if you dont need to see blue status lights on amps you can hide them as well somewhere in the back and access only power supply block.
Are the power amps 48 v
I think so, wasnt that in the video? Id have to measure it
I just ordered the bare boards of these amps to give the TPA 3255 another chance.
@@klausfreis7202 These do sound different in a positive way, with anything better than 5532 :)
Just got these today and sounds very good but a bit harsh/edgy, will that smooth out in time and how long for these to burn in and sound their best?
It will smooth out after ~100h, but do change the stock opamps to something a-class discrete for ultimate goodness. NE5532 are just bad and cheap.
@@k4syx How many opamps are in each XLR balanced amp and any in the SMPS?
@@k4syx I have two Muse02 opamps, how do I know if these are safe to try as I wouldn't want a potential fire hazard?
@@michaelcampbell9459 Nothing in the power supply, and I think one per channel in each amp (that should be visible in the video though, so please make sure)
@@k4syx How do I know if the Muse02 opamps I have are safe to try as I wouldn't want a potential fire hazard, or are all 8 prong opamps basically safe to try?
I would suggest to buy 30$ oscilloscope, so you can measure the actual power. Is it worth having mono 3255? Not clear for me. Thanks for review.
You will be able to catch a distortion on maximum level and see the output signal - like triangle or meander. It is fun actually - you will enjoy it.
@@ruslanmulyk8601 yes I know, but that will have to be done with some simulated load (I won't use real speakers). I do have some high wattage resistors but these will simulate only R component of the Z. Will have to ghetto mod some sort of crossover sim :)
You will test it on some specific frequency, so it is not clear why do you need crossover. On ali 8om resistors cost 2$.
Which preamp goes the best with this one?
@@Gilliboy82 something tubey. Cary SLP-90 for sure, I will check others too (two of them waiting in line for the review). But for Cary you need to get RCA version of this amp.
where is volume?
These are mono power amps, so no volume control: youd need pream or source with volume control for them. But its worth it!
Will this be the next rabbit hole i fall into??>>....haha. Make it stop!....hehe. I do have a set of Muse02 opamps that I thought I would use at some point on a project. With this amp currently, just enjoying it as is, Probably closer to what the new Aiyima A70 sounds like??
Jutst stumbled upon your channel last night, Talk about rabbit holes! :) REALLY appreciate your what you are doing here. Thanks! subbed
Thanks! Havent heard that one, but the brand is familiar: they some afforable and not so bad things, some of them excellent like Douk U2 DDC that I've reviewed some time ago (and still use)
And its not a big problem, I can leave them playing upstairs and its not bothering anyone if I do this as I did describe in my older burn-in video with Diamonds 12.3
is the xlr version truly balanced?
Yes it is, TPA3255 is natively balanced and can be switched to SE mode (that's most common in all cheaper designs). You can check it with TI whitepapers for tpa3255, a lot of interesting info there.
Many thanks for this review. Do you think this power supply is better than the power supply bricks that come with Aiyima and Fosi monoblocs?
Yes, I think so. This is very good quality PSU that you can atually buy separately, what they had done here is just adding black matching case ;)
Had fosi v3 and used 1612 op amps sounded very nice.
@@Golommod 1612 is one of my IC choice opamps that are great value: cheap and sound great!
Hello,
I know the chip from the Fosi amplifier.
I don't know, I don't think it sounds good at all compared to the FM300a clone.
Maybe it's different with the monos?
Otherwise I think your channel is very good, I'm a big fan of Chinesecrackers.
Keep up the work.
Peace goes out from Germany
Hi!
Thanks for your kind words, best regards!
TPA3255 can sound different depending on implementation, this one is very good!
There's nothing wrong with Nippon Chemi-Con capacitors. They're actually some of the best right up there with Rubicon, Nichicon and Panasonic.
@@erickvond6825 yes these are fine although not recognized as "audio" brand, more like a solid workhorses of most electronic devices
I Love it but I think those 3255 boards are sold for $75 pair and I can ad SMPS ..
I positive tou actually have a Great Ear an listen like I do... I use a 1k power supply
This comment is technically even happening before the first comment happened. It's the -1th comment.
@@supercompooper wow like time traveler, impressive!
Lol
A sound check was best
How is the sound compared to Ayima A70 that you liked?
The answer is in the video
Ok comment removed as I have received the amp today. He mentioned he ran out of the amp board and had to delay shipping for close to 4 weeks.
Have you asked the seller what's up with the shipping? I can add link to the second store I usually use just in case.
@@k4syx yes I did first time he said next weekend and it didn’t happened and then I was going to ask again and he put in the tracking number right before auto refund date set in and 2 days later no tracking available. I sent another message asking if not shipped then refund me instead.
@@k4syx the store did have the best price. I guess lower price for a reason 😂
@@kenwk2283 I'll try to ask about that as this is the store I got D5Pro from, I'll ask them what's happening. It's possible they use shipping forwarder, sometimes I saw strange long tracking numbers starting from SG that were later updated for UPS regular tracking and one of other sellers told me that this means they use two shipping services one after another, some kind of bulk transport and then regular parcel service. Can you send me the order number or something I can refer to when asking the shop?
@@kenwk2283 I did contact them and they say they will reach to you directly and explain what's happening. Apparently these amps suddenly became very popular :D
So now I have to buy a clone and a D Class.
Maybe I will hide the D class away, but still use it.
Thats my prank scenario - hide them behind some accu clone and ask my friends to assess the sound ;)
Seriously though, this one stays with me same as MF A1 clone - great value!
seems one power transformer for dual mono doesn’t actually make sense. gimmick rather
Two is always better and you can have two separate power supplies here. For traditional A or AB class amps transformers sometimes have two separate sets of windings, sharing flux, yes, but I wonder if having two separate trafos is that much better compared to two windings.
I mean if cost is no object, then why not :)
2x stacato too much money. ..
@@andrews4379 didn't think about it this way, comparing the prices. I had them available with others, at some point in time every man has "boxes" filled with strange stuff collected over the years. I have boxes of tubes, capacitors, opamps, cables&wires, and some with small amps and DACs :)

It actually is a box with different DACs that are either to cheap to sell or I've modified them and I don't want to sell them now :)
