Maybe it’s like the treasure boxes that drop in previous tekken games as part of a game mode, but with past battle pass items that aren’t currently accessible? They wouldn’t do that for free though..

honestly I need that sphere item from battlepass 1, I am so disappointed I only paid for battle pass this time around and missed out. So if there's a way to get it with out gambling real money and just using in game fight currency then I'm down, but it would be really messed if these are real money only loot boxes.

But then, Bamco have lost their minds recently, another great company has fallen.
It's not recent, honey. They've been nickle and diming Tales fans with costumes that used to be free in-game unlocks, along with selling levels, gold, and stat boosts for a long time now. They also have Idolmaster, the series that invented the $1,000+ DLC collections.
Given how they already added a freaking Battle Pass to Tekken, this wouldn't surprise me if they include actual lootboxes.
I left the game back when Eddy dropped because you couldn't lab against him without paying, and I haven't played since. I finally decided to check back on Tekken to see what has changed, and now im hearing about potential lootboxes. Yikes
Monetization in a fighting game doesn't work.
If it doesn't make money over time don't expect big content updates after a while...
Why ? As long as it doesnt affect the gameplay itselft theres no issue at all.

I wish it were that easy. While there are those like us who wouldn’t spend a single penny on anything more than the base game, there will always be that one group of people who will spend money on heavily monetized games like this, which motivates Bamco to keep going at it.

To the people who say just don’t buy them it’s like saying yea you don’t have to buy skins in Fortnite but it would be so bland tho. It’s also ignorant to the fact that hundreds of whales will end up buying it because they don’t know better. This is awful it’s a $70 fighting game with a battles pass, a Shop of re sold stuff that used to be FREE from previous games and soon Loot-boxes. Where is the line they will draw till we say that’s enough? The people who blindly defend this stuff are the same people who buy yearly COD and Madden games for $100+ when it’s the same game but worse.

If they are as easy to earn as overwatch 1's lootboxes were, then i don't mind.
T8 is a £60 game, so it shouldn't have a free to play lootbox system. Those ones are grindy as hell, and the only justification for those is that the games are free.

The prizes(?) you get from completing certain goals in ranked (EX: using x move 5 times in 3 rounds) is already kind of extra. I don't see the point of lootboxes when they have a store and a customizer that basically has everything available

To be fair, overwatch 1 did the same thing, while it was still very frowned upon, the loot boxes were pretty easy to get, and motivated some of us to play different game modes.
The problem with lootboxes is that the items in the gacha of various games weren't obtainable by any other way, but with tekken having a store, it's sorta mitigated by it.
I'm down for lootboxes IF we have a free way to get them and if they're not so agonizingly grindy to get.

Game balance timeline has nothing to do with monetization. They are completely separate arms of Bandai. Balancing is slowed down because they don't want too many changes this far into TWT, Harada said so himself.

They easily resemble past resources theyve used in games before.
We shouldnt be assuming they have plans with every asset left in their files.
Even if it's not lootboxes, Tekken 8 is already in shambles in terms of monetization, the fact that they included the MTX and battle pass post release is very bad. And yes you don't have to buy them, but it's still a terrible thing for them to do. If it's indeed lootboxes, then Tekken 8 loses any last bit of credibility it had left, and it weren't that much already anyway.

They already explained the extra monitization was never planned, but its money that helps pay for servers running all the ghost data, the fight lounge, the replay system, all stuff that will continue to cost money so long as the game is active and are features people want. And the cost of running it was starting to add up.

It would make me sad, but if the loot boxes only contain cosmetics, how is it anyone's place to say it's not okay? It's not Bandai Namco's job to make sure you're making responsible decisions with your money. The option to not buy them and still play/enjoy the game exists.

This is just grimey low effort business tactics. They said verbatim that they would use the money from monetization to make the actual base game better. It's been months, game came out in january, its september now. They havent done shit but thought of more ways they can dive in peoples wallets. We've had 2 dlc character drops with the next coming real soon and still no story DLC. The more news about this game that comes out, the more lackluster it becomes. That's why they lose players every month.

If you dont support any of these new monetisation methods in a fully priced $60 game. Simply stop playing the game. As much as I hated the introduction of the BP, I still continued playing, players like us perpetuate the existence of these practices.

I was fully expecting that post apocalyptic general cosmetic armor after your last video only to sign in and see this "hibiscus pack". lol. Also, it's very hard to ignore just how slimy the lack of hair options are when you consider that they're just releasing hairstyles already in the game that should have been applicable to all characters AND able to have the color changed. It's shameless. Some hairstyles can be applied to all characters but if they had plans to rerelease the same exact style with different colors, they excluded it. Japanese gaming companies dont like making money. Square Enix is a perfect example of it. Saw all the blowback to NFT and web3 then went and announced a game that nobody ever asked for while, on that same spectrum, SE fans have been shouting from the rooftops and some from their graves, that they wanted a true Dissidia game on console. It could have just be an HD version of the PSP games but instead they port the arcade game, NT, which is visually stunning but plays more like Gundam VS with competition being the focus. If they could repurpose those models and make a full fledged game, it would be great for their money. Bamco is seemingly always teetering on the edge of bankruptcy which is why every other game they publish is an arena fighter. Instead of listening to their fanbase, they acquire popular IP then make storm clones. FighterZ should have told them that their ASW partnership was good for them. But instead, if the rumors are correct, that last major patch that broken FighterZ for a while was against ASW discretion and pushed by Bamco. Fk these companies. They get their golden geese and run over them with their cars. Same with sega and sonic. could probably easily port SA2B and SADX and give us a chao garden companion app. Game would easily get repurchased. I have them on Dreamcast, Gamecube, AND PS3. Damn shame.

This looks like just stuff from old passes for people coming in so they can get the old stuff. Which is fine and actually what I'd like to see implemented.
If they give me the win after someone dc and the game ignore your opponent lagging (lag switching, under minimum spec, shit internet, etc) then maybe i’ll turn a blind eye to the loot boxes. Also small tweaks like buff and nerfs every patch. Then maybe.

@@NibbledPickle last time I've heard loot boxes was battlefront 2 and it got so bad that governments got involved. Harada and namco don't believe in a good game it's already bad enough the story and plot changes too much now heihachi comes back and if the boxes are added that's the nail in the coffin ⚰️. I've tolerated harada BS for years but what they are doing I will no longer support them.
If they add lootboxes the game will b wack, but if it’s just cosmetics who cares. If they do it so u don’t know what you’re getting it will be messed up. I hate gambling.
If this happens, we have fans need to get on haradas ass like we actually need to stand up to this bullshit it’s bad enough. They have a battle pass. We don’t need loot boxes.
